Licensing content types

Creative (Commercial) or Editorial. Knowing the difference and understanding what type of content is considered safe for commercial use versus what is restricted to editorial use only, will help make the submission process more smooth.

Are there any exceptions in licensing?

Ticketed Events & Locations: taking photos of an event or inside a location that charges an admission fee will almost always require permission, even for editorial use, due to the intellectual property they protect. Many of these events and locations are restricted to accredited members of the press so it’s essential that a press pass, property release, permit, or contract issued and/or signed by an authorized representative of the organization is uploaded with your submission.

How to Purchase:

If you do not have a premium subscription you will see this banner when you try to upload a photo: 

By clicking the "Upgrade now" button, you'll be taken to the following screen breaking down the subscription options. The price displayed will be in your local currency. As an example, this screenshot shows the currency in CAD.

Select either Monthly or Yearly Awesome membership. Select the "Get Awesome yearly" or "Get Awesome monthly" button. An option to login with your Apple ID will pop up. Sign in and the payment screen will pop up requesting the subscription fee. Any taxes that are applicable will appear on this screen. This will display the final price of your subscription. 

The confirmation Screen will display as such:

How do I get started?

You’ll want to ensure you’re running the latest version of our 500px app.

On the far right, your Messenger icon will appear. Click here to check your messages, or send a message to another 500px user. Your profile can be accessed from the avatar in the top left corner.

You can also send a message to a 500px user using the Messenger icon in the user’s profile as outlined in the screenshot below.

Your messages will appear as they are received, and you can also start new Messenger conversations using the icon in the window as depicted below. Clicking on the icon will allow you to start a conversation with any of your Followers.

You can use the Message box to type your message/reply to any 500px user. Press ‘Send’ to communicate your message!
