Altimeter - Measure altitude & location

Altimeter is a convenient Android application that enables you to obtain the true altitude above sea level (MSL) at your current location or any location on Earth. The app utilizes your device's location to access raw altitude data from GPS signals and does not require a network connection to function. True altitude above mean sea level is calculated using the EGM96 Earth Gravitational Model.

Network access is necessary to retrieve altitude information for a location selected from the map.

Height above mean sea level (AMSL) refers to the elevation (on the ground) or altitude (in the air) of an object relative to the average sea level datum. Conventional GPS elevation assumes the Earth as an ellipsoid, leading to discrepancies of up to 100 meters (328 feet) between this ellipsoid height and true mean tidal height. Our application uses a geoid-based vertical datum like the global EGM96 model.

The vertical accuracy of altitude is defined at a 68% confidence level. Specifically, it represents the one-sided range above and below the estimated altitude reported, within which there is a 68% probability of finding the true altitude.
