Set Up Amazon Fire TV Apps

See Your Full App List: The top row of the Amazon Fire TV home screen shows only your six favorite apps. To see all of your installed Fire TV apps, scroll to the three squares on the right side of the top row and select “My Apps.”

Or, long-press your remote’s home button and select “Apps.” You can use this method from anywhere without having to return to the home screen first.

Rearrange Your Apps: To change the order of apps on your Fire TV home screen, go to your full app list, select the app you want to move, tap the menu button on your remote, and select “Move” or “Move to Front.”

Delete or Hide Apps: To delete a Fire TV app, go to your full app list, tap the menu button, and select “Uninstall.”

You can also select “Hide from your apps,” which removes it from your list without uninstalling it. This is also useful for hiding Amazon apps that can’t be deleted, such as Luna and Amazon Live Shopping.

Choose Top Apps Wisely: When rearranging apps, note that the six apps you put first get special status. They appear at the top of your home screen, and some even suggest content to watch as you scroll through them. This is a great way to get quick recommendations from your favorite video sources. (Not all apps support these “app preview” recommendations, but I found Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+ and Paramount+, HBO Max all worked well.)

Remotely install apps: For a faster way to install new apps, head to the Fire TV online app store on your computer, where you can browse, search, and install apps remotely. If you have multiple Fire devices, be sure to select your Fire TV from the “Deliver to” list before installing.

Create additional profiles: To switch profiles or add new ones, just click the profile icon on the far left of the toolbar. Each family member can then have their own favorite apps and personalized recommendations, and you can create kid-specific profiles with age-appropriate content and optional PINs.

Free up storage space: To see all your installed apps (whether they’re hidden in the main app list or not), scroll to the bottom of the app list and click “App Library,” then select “Installed on this TV.” This will show you everything taking up space, so you can click the menu button and uninstall the ones you’re no longer using.

App always has issues. Very annoying to use. Connecting is slow or doesn't happen, keeps disconnecting randomly. Trying to adjust volume slightly makes it go too loud suddenly, can't lower until it reconnects! Also, has trouble scrolling. Using this app when kids are asleep is a headache, as it wakes them up with loud TV.

The app runs smoothly, it responds fast and switches between apps or TV effortlessly. There's a minor problem with the cursor speed on the internet screen when using navigation buttons, but it's not a big deal. You can adjust the remote control cursor speed in settings though. Maybe there's a way to change the cursor speed while using the app. I enjoy using the app. The update is nice because you can now access the app controls on your lockscreen. Thank you for the update.

Tried everything to make this app work - reset the router, removed and installed the app again, turned on and off airplane mode. Still no luck. This problem keeps happening with this app. It's awesome when it works, but super annoying when it doesn't, which is pretty often. Time to find a new remote control and ditch this frustrating app.

I can now control my smart TV with my smartphone. It's really convenient because I sometimes lose the TV remote, especially with my cats around. All I can do without the remote is turn the TV on and off. But that's no problem because I can just use my phone instead, which has all the functions of the remote, including Alexa voice control.

I downloaded this app and hate it because we lost our Fire Stick remote. Using the app is frustrating because it doesn't respond to my commands well. It's like playing a game trying to land on the right app. Every morning, I waste 15 minutes just trying to find a show for my kids. I'm considering switching to Chromecast.

The app is not good. It keeps disconnecting, and you can only push two buttons before it disconnects again. Even if the phone is close to the fire stick, sometimes the app can't even find it. You have to unplug the fire stick to make the app see it and connect. Important tip: Make sure your kids don't lose the original remote! It would be helpful if the app allowed you to change the name of each firestick. It's hard to know which one to connect to when there are four in the house.

Connection gets lost randomly, hardly works when needed. The Fire Stick remote is small and black, so we often misplace it and rely on the app to use it, which rarely works. Currently, can't find the remote, and the app won't connect on any device. Makes me want to switch to Roku.

Received the update, it was working fine... until today. Same issue, new version. Had to remove it completely and start again. Once more. Really hoping to find my remote soon. Sometimes this app works great, but sometimes it just won't connect despite having a strong wifi signal. Every month or so, it acts so strange that I have to uninstall and reinstall it. I've had to do that twice in the past 3 days.

My TV remote always disconnects after 2 minutes. It's frustrating! But when it does work, it's great. I just wish it worked more consistently. I recently discovered a faster way to reconnect it - by unplugging my TV and then plugging it back in. After a few minutes, the app connects to my TV again.

I had a great experience with the new version. Typing speed and accuracy have improved a lot. The trackpad is excellent and works well. Connectivity is excellent. I lost my remote, but this one has been working perfectly for two months. It would be nice to be able to adjust the volume using the volume buttons on the mobile phone, like when casting YouTube from the app to the TV. This feature would be really useful.
