Tips:

Focus on facilities that increase your tips (not the X cod per 30 minutes) and buffet income. Tips and buffet income increase while you are away from the game but the other incomes don't. Tip+ facilities just take cod to buy, but the buffet upgrades are usually locked behind stars. So when you buy facilities, also buy whatever has the highest star bonus you can afford.

Daily quest reward for 25/50 stars adds up after a week so stay on that. Mewchelin should be done passively, and don't spend cod on anything related to it unless you get an immediate large return on your investment. Aka, recipes are not worth it.

The takeout section is a money sink early/mid game, only use cod there if it's no skin off your back.

Garden flowers and Hedwig letters are all useful though - you can get recipe upgrade letters and certain other letters that unlock customers or facilities, or give a nice chunk of stars.

Fishing pond is also not worth a huge investment at the moment but get the free bait and grab some fish here and there.

Backyard and concert area gives good resources. Get to around 20 friends (random adds) and check the icons daily to see who has bags. It's good income. Generally don't spend cod here, focus on film, and facilities that generate more film. In a few weeks you can basically max out film production, then use it to upgrade the speaker (double customers, more rare customers, less taps, etc).

Just slowly upgrade your speaker, your workers, and low level facilities on the side with a large focus on the tips/buffet.
