Why players need to Set Up Discord Voice Chat on PS5?
Discord has become the go-to platform for gamers and various communities to connect online, particularly due to its integration with PC gaming platforms like Steam, which allows easy communication while playing. However, until recently, this seamless connectivity was lacking on home consoles.
In 2022, Discord was introduced on Xbox Series X/S, followed by the PlayStation 5 in March 2023. This integration allows players to enjoy gaming on their next-gen consoles while chatting with friends through Discord. Here’s how to set up the service on both systems. If you’re new to Discord, consider checking out a beginner's guide first.
How to Set Up Discord on the PlayStation 5?
To connect Discord (or any social media app) on your PS5, follow these steps:
Access Settings: Navigate to Settings on your PS5.
Select Users and Accounts: Go to Users and Accounts, then choose Linked Services.
Choose Discord: Select the Discord option and click on Link Account.
Accept Terms: Agree to the terms presented.
Enter Code or Scan QR: You will see an on-screen code. Enter this code at discord.com/activate, or scan the QR code using your mobile device. If you use the QR code, it will open the Discord app, and if you're already logged in, you can simply accept the terms.
Once you complete these steps, your Discord account will be successfully linked to your PS5 console.
To use Discord on your PlayStation 5, you need to access it through a mobile device or computer, as there is no native Discord app available on the console. Here’s how to connect to a voice channel based on the device you are using:
Mobile Device
Open Discord: Launch the Discord app on your mobile device.
Join a Voice Channel: Navigate to the voice channel you wish to use.
Access Voice Options: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to reveal your voice options.
Select Join on PlayStation: Choose the option to join on PlayStation and select your PS5 from the list.
Join Call: Tap on Join Call on PlayStation to establish the connection.
Desktop
Open Discord: Launch Discord on your computer.
Select Voice Channel: Click on the voice channel you want to join.
Transfer to Console: Click on the Transfer to console icon located in the bottom-left corner.
Choose PlayStation: Select Transfer to PlayStation, then pick your console from the list.
Transfer Voice: Click on Transfer Voice to connect Discord with your PS5.
Once connected, you will receive a notification on your PS5 confirming that you have joined the voice channel. When you're done, you can disconnect through the app, and you'll be notified that you've left the voice chat.
If everything is set up correctly, you will receive a notification on your PS5 indicating that you have successfully joined the voice channel from the console. When you're finished, simply disconnect through the app, and you will see a notification confirming that you have left the voice chat.
How to Use Discord Voice on PS5?
Now that your Discord and PlayStation accounts are successfully linked, you can start chatting with your Discord friends on your PS5.
Joining a Voice Channel
On Mobile: Swipe up to access the voice controls, and you will see a new button labeled "Join on PlayStation." Select this option to connect.
On Desktop: Look for the icon that resembles a phone next to a game controller in the bottom-left corner. Click on this icon to initiate the transfer to your PS5.
With these steps, you can easily communicate with your friends while gaming on your console.
Next, you'll be prompted to select the console to which you want to transfer your voice conversation. Once you make your choice, a bit of gamer magic happens in the background, and just like that, your PS5 becomes the hub for your conversation.
On your console, you'll have access to all the familiar Discord controls: you can mute or lower the volume of others while you grab a snack, view the name of the voice channel you're in, and easily hang up the call when you're finished. Plus, using your DualSense™ controller’s built-in microphone makes it even quicker to start chatting.
