Easy installation

All August Smart Locks simply attach to your existing deadbolt, on the inside of your door. Since it does not change the exterior of your lock your keys will still work.

How to Improve Battery Life for the Wi-Fi Smart Lock

Make sure your lock is installed correctly

An incorrectly installed lock might force the motor to work harder than normal. That could lead to reduced battery life. Make sure that you are using the correct tailpiece adaptor and that the wing latches are properly seated. You may wish to review the needs for your lock outlined in this article.

Reduce deadbolt friction

Make sure that your deadbolt and the strike plate in your doorframe are properly aligned with no friction during deadbolt movement. Resistance to the movement of the deadbolt will force the motor to work harder than normal and reduce battery life. This article provides more help.

Try to improve your Wi-Fi signal

Poor signal from your Wi-Fi access point will make the Wi-Fi chip in the lock work harder to capture and maintain a connection. That could lead to reduced battery life. If possible, try to bring your Wi-Fi router closer to your front door.

Use an August Connect Wi-Fi Bridge

Your lock’s battery life may be negatively affected by the performance of your WiFi access point. This wouldn’t affect your Wi-Fi devices that are not battery powered, but it could have an effect on your Wi-Fi Smart Lock. It may be better if you use August Connect rather than your lock’s internal Wi-Fi to remotely control your lock.
