Bitdefender’s Scam Alert

The Scam Alert feature in Bitdefender Mobile Security for Android takes preventive measures to the forefront, dealing with potentially dangerous situations before they even have a chance to become a problem, including malware threats. Scam Alert monitors all incoming SMS messages and Android notifications in real time. When a dangerous link arrives in a message on your phone, a warning similar to the one shown in the picture below appears.

Bitdefender will offer two options. The first option is to dismiss the information. The second option is to view more details along with essential pieces of advice, such as:

    Don’t open or forward the detected link.

    For texts, delete the message if possible.

    Block the sender if they’re not a trusted contact.

    Uninstall the app that sends dangerous links in notifications.

    Enable Scam Alert in Bitdefender Mobile Security for Android

    Scam Alert is included for free in Bitdefender Mobile Security and requires Android 6 or later. On older Android versions, this feature is unavailable and is not visible on the bottom navigation bar of Bitdefender Mobile Security for Android.

To enable Scam Alert, you need to grant the Bitdefender Mobile Security app access to the SMS messages and the notification system:

1. Open the Bitdefender Mobile Security app installed on your Android phone or tablet.

2. In the Bitdefender app main screen, tap the Scam Alert option on the bottom navigation bar, then press TURN ON.

3. Tap the ALLOW button to allow the Bitdefender app to scan phone notifications and warn you about harmful ones.

4. In the Notification Access list, toggle Bitdefender Security to the ON position.

5. Confirm the action by pressing ALLOW.

6. Return to the Scam Alert screen and press ALLOW to give Bitdefender the ability to scan incoming SMS messages for Smishing.

1. When does my subscription start?

Your Bitdefender subscription starts as soon as you make the purchase. The countdown begins immediately after you buy the code from our online store at www.bitdefender.com, even if you haven’t redeemed it yet in your Bitdefender Central account. So, the subscription begins on the day you place the order, not the day you enter the code into Bitdefender Central.

2. Do I need the activation code each time I install Bitdefender?

No. Bitdefender codes only need to be activated once and may only be activated in one Bitdefender Central account. Once the subscription is active, the activation code is no longer needed in the (re)installation process, as all installations are managed directly from your Bitdefender Central account.

3. Can you extend a Bitdefender subscription?

Yes, you can extend your Bitdefender subscription if you have valid days remaining. When purchasing a new subscription identical to your current one (same plan, number of users, and total validity not exceeding 5 years), select the “Extend current subscription” option when activating it in your Bitdefender Central account.

4. What happens when Bitdefender expires?

Once your Bitdefender subscription ends, the software will stop functioning, and you will no longer have access to its features. If you choose not to renew your subscription, you can uninstall Bitdefender from your device after it expires.

5. I renewed my Bitdefender subscription, but the product expired

If you purchased a subscription and the new validity is not reflected in the installed product, just log out and log back in again to your Central account using the Switch Account button (see the image below for reference). That should refresh your Bitdefender account and allow you to use the renewed subscription.
