Bredbandskollen is a convenient tool for quickly assessing the speed of your mobile or fixed internet connection.
Once you have downloaded and installed Bredbandskollen on your phone, you can measure various aspects such as download and upload speeds, as well as latency. The application is user-friendly and free of charge, prioritizing the protection of your privacy where your data remains anonymous, with the only stored personal data being an IP address.
When conducting speed tests on your mobile internet connection, you can opt to share the location where the test was conducted. Bredbankskollen aggregates this information to create a speed map that users can access. You have the flexibility to adjust your phone settings to prevent sharing your location at any point.
Furthermore, Bredbankskollen is available as a web service and open-source software for evaluating both fixed and wifi connections.
This service is managed by the Swedish Internet Foundation (Internetstiftelsen), an independent private foundation dedicated to fostering the positive growth of the internet. They oversee the Swedish top-level domain .se and the administration of the top-level domain .nu.
For inquiries or support, you may find answers on their website or contact their customer support at support@bredbankskollen.se.
FAQ
1. How do I measure mobile speed via the app?
When you measure your mobile speed with the Bredbandskollen app, you should first check that you are connected to your operator's mobile network and not to your wifi. You do this under the settings on your phone.
2. What does error code C01 mean?
If you get the error code C01, it means that your app has failed to communicate with our measurement server that controls when you are allowed to take your measurement.
The most common reason for this is that you have activated some form of VPN or anonymization service that blocks some of the traffic to us.
Deactivating this service before measuring often solves this problem.
iCloud Private Relay causes this problem for some users.
There may also be other network problems that cause this error code.
3. Can I use iCloud Private Relay together with Bredbandskollen?
Apple is about to launch a new anonymization service, iCloud Private Relay. It is not yet officially supported by Apple, but anyone who wants to can activate it on their Mac or iOS device.
For most people, it is fine to run the Bredbandskolls app while they have iCloud Private Relay activated. However, some users have received error code C01 when trying to measure.
IF you receive error code C01 in the app and are running iCloud Private Relay, turning off iCloud Private Relay usually helps.
We have also received error code C01 when running iCloud Private Relay AND F-Secure Freedome VPN at the same time. Troubleshooting is ongoing to find the cause.
4. Why does Bredbandskollen need to access my phone?
Those who install our app on a mobile phone running Android must agree to allow us to access the phone part of the mobile phone. We need the phone permission to see what type of mobile network you are measuring over in order to determine how good your connection is. This is a new requirement since Android version 12 and we are required to have access to the phone part in order to be able to make a measurement.
The broadband check will never make or handle calls.
