BRUTAL AGE: BACKGROUND

The game is set during the Prehistoric times with lots of hunting, gathering, battles and clan-like behaviour. You can choose a horde, join clans (there are more than 15 unique barbarian clans to choose from), complete clan quests for rewards, scout and attack player outposts for loot, and hunt for monsters (mammoths, sabretooths, boars, giant trees and rock monsters).

It can be a bit tricky at first, but you’ll get the hang of it eventually.

After you start the game, sync it to your Facebook account. You’ll spend the first few days building, upgrading and strengthening your base before you plan invasions. The game kicks off with a few tutorials, mostly on construction and upgrading suggestions to stockpile on resources.

And you know what? You’ll need a lot of resources, especially when it’s time to upgrade your base. After every successful construction or upgrade, you’ll receive rewards in terms of food, wood, and experience. Once you understand the game mechanics, you can ignore the suggestions and start exploring your base, buildings, and the battle map.

The game may start out slow at first as you are still new to it. Don’t worry. It will and does get easier. HOW TO PLAY

Choosing Your Horde

Joining a horde gives you certain perks that can help you during battles, base-building and research. Choose your horde wisely as you may have to wait 14 days from the date of joining one if you want to switch to a new one. To change your horde, go to your portrait at the upper left corner of the screen and tap “Horde”.

Below are the hordes available and what you can get for joining one:

Purple – Believes in friendship. Perks include:

Increases your clan’s help effect by 30%

Decreases you trading tax by 30%

Green – Believes in peace and harmony. Perks include:

Frequent collection of resources

Decreases your construction time by 5%

Blue – Believes in knowledge. Perks include:

Decreases your research time by 5%

Decreases your healing cost by 20%

Red – Believes in total control. Perks include:

Sets fire on enemy territory

Decreases your training time by 3%

Orange – Believes in authority. Perks include:

Decreases your training cost by 8%

Decreases your target enemy’s defence by 5%

Black – Believes in democracy as it does not have a leader nor does it have any skills.

Advantages of Joining a Clan

Joining a clan means you’re part of an active group that gives you access to a special clan store where you can buy items such as advanced teleport, gathering and defence boosts, peace shields, and speed-ups. These items help to enhance your gaming experience.

To join a clan, tap your horde flag at the lower-right corner of the screen (or access it from your profile at the top-left corner of the screen) where you’ll see a list of clans, the total clan members and the clan power. Some clans require you to “Apply”, but most are free for all.

You can also start your own clan by tapping the Create button. To quit a clan, tap the “Manage” button and press “Quit Clan”. You won’t get any clan benefits, but you can keep the clan coins that you earned.

Joining a clan gets you the help you need for the construction of your structures that take time to complete. A handshake icon will appear over the structure that’s being upgraded. Tapping that icon sends out an SOS to your clan members which will appear on their screens and they can tap it to help you decrease your upgrade time.

Make sure the clan you join has plenty of members so your chances of getting help will increase. The more clan help you get, the faster your upgrade time will be. At level 1, you can only get help from one clan member. Upgrade your Stronghold (below) to increase the amount of help received from clan members.

Types of Buildings and the Upgrade Benefits

When starting the game, you will be required to build the following structures. From time to time, these structures will also need to be upgraded for you to level up:

War Camp: Trains various types of warriors. Upgrading it will increase the speed of training your troops.

War Hut: Increases your warrior training capacity. As you continue to level up your war hut, the number of troops you can train will increase as well.

Healing Spring: Heals your wounded troops. Upgrading it increases the speed at which your troops will heal. As you continue to upgrade your healing spring, your troops will eventually begin to heal faster, too!

Healing Well: Depends a lot on your healing spring as upgrading the healing well increases the number of troops healed by the healing spring.

Warehouse: Stores and protects your resources from invading clans. Upgrading it will increase the resource protection amount.

As long as you’re in a clan, you can collect clan relics that give you anything, including speed boosts (below) of anywhere from a minute to an hour.
