How can I spot scams that involve BuzzFeed?

People may falsely represent themselves as employees of BuzzFeed, or otherwise having some sort of official connection to BuzzFeed, via email, WhatsApp, SMS or on social media such as Facebook or Instagram. Typically, these scammers are trying to trick you into handing over personal or social account login information. They may also try to trick you into providing financial information such as your banking account information.

Advertising Scam

Advertising scammers will offer you money in exchange for sharing “sponsored ads” on your Facebook page or other social media profiles. They will then trick you into providing them admin control of your page, then take it over and steal control of the page.

Casting/Job Scams

In Casting and Job Scams, people will falsely represent themselves as BuzzFeed recruiters in order to trick you into sharing your personal information, sending them money, buying goods or services from associates of theirs, or providing access to your financial accounts.

How do I change my username?

While you can change how your username appears on the site (see 2 questions up from here), you cannot change your username. BuzzFeed is all about getting posts linked to from all over the web so we are very careful not to ever break links. Since your username is your URL for all your posts (http://buzzfeed.com/username/post-name), doing so would break all links to your existing posts. That would make everyone sad. If you really, really need a different username, you can always just create a new account.

    I really liked this app before. I love the content, but the comment section that I used to enjoy is not good anymore. My replies to other comments used to vanish and now I can't comment at all. When I try to post a comment, it doesn't work. Additionally, there are too many spam comments in the section. The "flag" and "like" buttons don't work either. This needs to be fixed!

    It keeps crashing while I'm reading an article and then goes back to the main page. It's super annoying, so I usually go to another website to find what I was looking for. I've tried reinstalling it but it still happens. And yes, I've made sure it's updated. This has been going on for years.

    The app keeps crashing every few minutes when I'm using it. It used to happen on my old phone due to low memory, but the BBC News app has just as much content and never crashes. I've tried reinstalling Buzzfeed twice in the last 5 weeks, but it hasn't helped. I really like the mix of serious news and fun content on Buzzfeed, and deleting it would leave a big gap in my day. The crashes are ruining my experience. I'm looking for another source of news and entertainment before deleting Buzzfeed.

    I'm getting frustrated with this app. The content is fine, but there are so many technical problems. I can't log into my account because of errors. And even when I manage to log in, I can't comment or like others' comments easily. It's really annoying. Fix these problems, please.

    I had to change my review because I discovered that this app has excessive background processes. I was shocked to realize that the app used up 22GB of data this month alone, even though I have 35GB in total. It's way more than what Facebook uses for background data. So be cautious before downloading this app!

    The app would get a higher rating if the bookmarks worked properly. The search function doesn't display much content, even when I know there's a lot on a specific topic. But overall, it's an enjoyable app for passing time.
