How to choose the right caregiver?
Determine the care needs
Are you looking for companion care and transportation help, or mobility assistance and memory care? After school care or help with homework, meals and light housekeeping? Start by clearly defining your needs so you can communicate them to potential caregivers.
Review profiles
Check profiles for any required certifications, licenses, experience and training.
Schedule an interview
Meet your top candidates to get a better sense of their personality and approach to care. A good caregiver should be patient, compassionate, and understanding. Starting with a video call can help you get comfortable with the caregiver remotely, without sharing your personal phone number, and before meeting in person. During the interview, confirm they’re who you expected (request to see ID), ask questions to gauge their experience. Get to know the person (or if you’re hiring a company, people) who will be coming into your home before you make a final hiring decision.
Check references
Always check references before hiring any household employee. Speak to other families who have used the caregiver's services to ask about the quality of care provided. Do an online search for the sitter’s full name, once you've exchanged that information. Make sure you feel comfortable with what you find.
Run a background check
All caregivers are required to complete a background check in order to interact with families, but we don’t share reports with families for privacy reasons. By running your own background check at the time of hire, you may gain access to additional information that will help you determine if the caregiver you’re considering meets your family’s hiring standards.
Steps to edit Care.com profile
A detailed profile helps caregivers learn more about you, your family, and your specific care needs, and helps candidates find and apply for jobs that match their skills. Follow the steps below to add or edit details on your profile.
1. Log in to your Care.com account.
2. Tap Me in the bottom navigation bar.
3. Select Profile.
4. Tap Edit profile.
5. Tap Add in each section to add household members (Children, Adults, Pets) or information about your home.
6. You can then provide additional detail for each addition. Most fields are optional; however, the following are required:
Child – Age
Adult – Relationship to you
Pet – Age, Size, Gender
Home – Approximate square footage
7. Tap Done to save your updates or Cancel to discard your changes.
8. To make further changes tap the pencil icon next to the section you’d like to update.
