What’s the Difference Between Casting and Mirroring?

Although casting and mirroring have the same sort of end goal, they are a little different. Casting lets you launch supported apps like YouTube directly to your TV. You can tell if an app supports casting by looking for the casting icon.

Cast to TV+ Chromecast Roku TV

If you see this icon within an app, it supports casting.

You’ll need to add the channel to your Roku, as well as install it on your mobile device. (If you want to add channels like the YouTube TV app and it’s not available in your region, our best VPN for Roku guide can help.) You need to connect them both to the same network, too (that includes Roku with Ethernet). Once you cast to your TV, it will display the app only, not your device’s whole screen.

Screen mirroring is a little different because it literally mirrors your whole screen to your TV. You will see content exactly as it is shown on your mobile device.

If an app doesn’t support casting, you can still show it on the big screen by mirroring it — provided your device is compatible and it’s connected to the same network as your Roku. Everything you do on your mobile device will be shown on your TV.

The ads in this app have been too much lately. I can still watch the streams, but dealing with so many ads for 6 minutes before I can click play is just crazy. (By the way, this app is better than other free streaming apps.)

I always spend money on this app and a few games. The app is great and the developer keeps updating it. Whenever I check my history and queue, they're still there even though they should be deleted. Apart from that, it's the best app. However, it's becoming less interesting with each update. I used to cast videos from ripple.stream to Chromecast, but it hasn't been working for a while.

So, you wanna upgrade to the pro version for $5.99, but when it's time to pay, they're asking for $8.99! That's not cool. How many Playlists will you get if you buy it? Maybe 2 more? It doesn't specify. The annoying part is you won't know until you've already paid. Will you have to keep shelling out $8.99 for just a few extra playlists?

You like the app and streaming to your Roku TV. You want closed caption setting in the next update.

My Roku TV doesn't have a browser. I streamed a new movie by opening an app and going to the site. The movie played in HD. I closed the app, but the movie kept playing on the TV. I can even use Facebook, YouTube, or write this review with the app closed in the background. The app is awesome! It's rare for me to give 5 stars, but even the sound is still in Dolby through Optical while playing in HD without any issues in the background. 😄

You tested some other casting programs but they didn't work with certain feeds. This one works perfectly and is super easy to use. You initially gave it a 5-star rating, but now you're downgrading it to two stars. The feeds that used to work fine are now having issues. They play for a short while and then suddenly show an error saying the format isn't supported. It's confusing since they were playing just fine before.

Certain video formats work on my smart tv. To watch live news and commercial-type videos, I need to get another app from the same developer. The videos that do work have high resolution and excellent sound with no annoying ads. Figuring out the remote control features was a bit confusing initially, but I eventually got the hang of it. In general, I would rate it 5 stars.

This app is really great. I've tried a lot of apps that work with Roku before, but none of them were as smooth and easy to use as this one. Everything works perfectly together. After watching just a few movies and music videos, I decided to buy the premium version. I have no regrets at all. I would definitely recommend it to others!

The app was great before, but now it keeps crashing with the new updates. Plus, you can't fast forward or rewind anymore. Imagine being an hour into a movie and the app crashes - you have to start all over again! It's so frustrating that I'm considering quitting this app. Hopefully, they'll fix it soon.
