Description of game content
Castle design
The Town Hall is the most significant building in the game.
It unlocks other buildings in the shop.
It has the highest HP per level.
It gives the most completion percentage to an enemy when destroyed and is required to receive one of the three flames per dungeon or raid win.
It functions well as a target for enemies to attack while your heroes, troops, and towers kill the attackers.
It looks cool when your town hall is located in a place that seems purposeful when designing your base.
Vaults are the most valuable buildings in the game. (Pun intended)
They store gold and mana acquired from mines, mills, dungeons, raids, Here Be Monsters, and purchases in the shop.
They limit the amount of gold and mana you can hold. When you're trying to save up for large purchases, these buildings should be guarded with a high priority. You can do this by surrounding them by towers, heroes, or troops.
They have decent HP per level and function well as interior targets while your heroes, troops and towers kill the attackers, when not being used to hoard resources.
Towers are the most defensive buildings in the game.
They damage enemy attackers.
Some towers have strong HP per level and function well as interior targets while your heroes, troops and towers kill the attackers.
After a Watchtower reaches level 10 you can specialize them according to your defensive preferences:
Arrow Towers provide strong offense by dealing high damage. They can be forced to target heroes and deal multiplied damage through the use of Garrisons. They are weak against swarms of small troops or large packs of Ornithopters.
Magic Towers provide simple defense dealing moderate damage to multiple targets. While they don't have the highest damage or Hit Points, they are quite useful when used with Blue Garrisons for stunning incoming attackers.
Cannon Towers provide specialized defense, dealing area damage to ground targets. They are ineffective against flying enemies. Green garrisons are necessary to hit fast moving units like Assassins, Ninjas, Heroes with Sprint, and Savage Ogres.
The Heroes Altar, Relic Hall, and the Guild Hall are the most special buildings in the game.
All three unlock additional game content, making them very useful and fun to have.
Heroes Altar's reduce the waiting time required for Heroes to revive when killed. Each Altar level reduces the waiting time.
Every Relic Hall level unlocks a new spell, new spell slot, or new spell level.
Leveling the Guild Hall will increase the number of Flags a player can hold at one time.
Both have High HP per level and functioned well as interior targets while your heroes, troops, and towers kill the attackers.
The Arena, Warehouse and Training Center are the most specific buildings in the game.
All three unlock game content and features.
All have low HP, only have ONE level, and do not function well as interior targets while your heroes, troops, and towers kill the attackers.
Because of their low HP all function well as exterior targets placed in locations that redirect attacking enemies from attacking other buildings.
These buildings are considered low HP because of their inability to increase their HP. They may however have higher HP than some of your buildings if many of your buildings have low levels.
Walls are the most basic buildings in the game.
They do not count toward completion percentage so an enemy does not need to target them unless required to do so by the AI when attacking other buildings.
Upgrading walls no longer increases might, nor do any walls built per Town Hall upgrade.
They function well as exterior targets, blocking (or slowing down) enemies from attacking other buildings.
They function well as walls, redirecting enemies away from the interior of your base or redirecting enemies into traps
Traps are the most expendable buildings in the game.
They do not count toward completion percentage so an enemy does not need to target them unless required to do so by the AI when attacking other buildings.
They function well as traps, dealing damage to enemies when approached.
There are two types of traps, Bomb Traps and Hero Traps.
Bomb Traps deals area damage to any enemy Troop that activates it. It does not affect flying units.
Hero Traps deals area damage to any enemy Hero that activates it. It does not affect flying units.
They are effective for filling the empty spaces in a base, and since a previous update, do not need to be replaced.
Hero Traps deals 10% Max HP to any heroes in range, and can be very effective when grouped together.
Here Be Monsters
Here Be Monsters is the most effective game mode for earning shards and experience. The correct base design is important in consistently earning shards as all five waves must be completed before shards are awarded.
The right combination of heroes is required for successfully completing Here Be Monsters. The right combination of heroes might change with each increase in HBM level.
First: Hero with ability to Heal: You need a healer to keep your heroes alive for all five waves. Druid and Ghoulem are good choices, but there is also Angel and Orksbane which both heal as well.
Second: Heroes with skill that target Area of Effect (AoE): The ability to deal damage to all enemies in an area, usually nearest to the hero. This is the best skill for Here Be Monsters as it takes out multiple enemies and keeps your hero alive. Suggested Heroes: Immortep, Serpent Queen, Cyclops, Vlad Dracula, Santa Boom and Engineer.
Third: Heroes that are able to hit Multiple Targets: The ability to deal damage to multiple random enemies in an area. This is similar to AoE but it targets enemies randomly on the map. This can be problematic as it could target enemies that are not attacking your hero. This leaves your hero at the mercy of nearby enemies. It also has preferential priority of targeting troops before heroes. Suggest Heroes: Grizzly Reaper, Thunder God, Spirit Mage, Minotaur Chieftain and Dread Drake
Also a hero skill that deal high damage to a single target is an option but not very viable if you do not have the two above. Suggested Heroes: Ninja, Succubus, Snowzilla and Assassin.
Two ranged heroes are a must.
For effective base designs specifically used for Here Be Monsters, see Base Designs page.
Shards, Honor Badges, Gems
Shards can be used to buy high level heroes, or sacrificial slime/ooze for skill experience. Get Shards by attacking dungeon levels with blue towers. Only attack the other levels to gain access to more difficult blue tower dungeons. Clearing all the rooms in a Ordinary Dungeon will open the door to an Expert Dungeon that offers much more HB and Shards. Farming the Here Be Monsters levels gives more shards.
Only use Honor Badges to upgrade heroes, they are hard to come by when you need 20,000 of them to get past level 80. You may think that 500 badges is worth an ordinary hero (if you even get one instead of a slime), but when you are in full HBC (Honor Badge Crisis) later on, or people often call it HB wall where all your heroes stuck at a level because of lacking HB, you will regret wasting them.
Early on, only use gems to generate heroes until you have enough high level heroes. This is still a good strategy even if you don't want to spend any money to buy gems - just use the gems you receive for daily rewards, completing achievements and be patient. Free gems via Tapjoy offers do come in handy, and they do count toward your 30 shard/day bonus and your hero and badge rewards. Do them early, a little at a time, and you may just see a Spirit Mage in your future. Also, if you plan to roll gems for talents, make sure you have several thousand; it will likely take 10-15 rolls to get something even slightly good.
Guilds
Guilds use shards as currency to buy upgrades, and many guilds require members to donate shards to stay in the guild.
For some players, hero shards are the most valuable resource in the game - since they can be used in high quantities to buy specific legendary heroes. Because of this, combined with the difficulty of completing guild events, one of the strategies for using the guild system effectively is to completely ignore it.
Another (and much better) option is to find a "piggyback guild". A guild that has a single member who is able to beat the boss and allows other members to tag along for the 500, 1k, or 1.5k badges you get just for participating. Follow their rules though, you don't want to get kicked out if you're lucky enough to secure a spot in one of them. You'll be amazed at how even an extra 7,000 badges a week doesn't even come close to satisfying your honor badge needs as you progress through the ranks.
If you are part of a successful guild with an active leader, you may also benefit from the guild purchase of flags. These are relatively new, are purchased with guild credits you've donated, and used just like spells.
Guilds are also a good place to share tips and ideas and if you're lucky, you might find a guild with an active leader who is willing to train you giving specific strategy and tips based on where you're at in the game. Typically these guilds require a steady donation rate in exchange for specialized help and advice.
Tips for heores
Don't waste gems rolling for talents on ordinary or elite heroes. Likewise don't waste gems rolling for talents when you do not have at least 3 legendary heroes.
Although Quality > Quantity, until you have a decent quantity of hero types, there's not a good reason to increase their individual quality.
1 talent roll (300) = 2 hero rolls (150 + 150)
If you roll for a talent and miss then you have wasted your gems.
If you roll for a hero and miss then you still have a chance of getting an elite with a good ability, plus you still have the guarantee of getting a hero that you can consume for skill points.
Use the ordinary and elite hero cards from Mesa chests instead of rolling for talents on them and have legendary heroes consume those born without the high level talents.
Don't waste Honor Badges leveling ordinary heroes beyond a reasonable level for your might and strength levels.
In terms of overall strength and usefulness, Ordinary Heroes < Elite Heroes < Legendary Heroes
A level 60 hero with skill level 3 (150 GP) > garrison level 2 (140 GP)
Two level 60 heros with skill level 3 (2 x 150 GP) = garrison level 3 (300 GP)
Three level 72 heroes each with skill level 9 can give full garrison level 7 in all three categories at the same time, and the ordinary hero's skill will have cost half of the legendary's.
Don't waste experience by placing useless heroes in tower garrisons when you don't need them to beat a level of Here Be Monsters, unless you want to build might by leveling all of the heroes.
ONLY place heroes you NEED in tower garrisons so that you are able to beat the level you are attempting.
Just like raids, the heroes in the tower garrisons will get an equal share of the earned experience.
Some heroes are meant for specific game modes.
Champion for example is great to get stun trains off in boss fights with his awesome ability
Succubus and Ninja are both better at arena, serious DPS? You definitely want these on your arena team.
Thunder God is good in both the arena and raiding, but is very useful in Here Be Monsters. His skill, Thunderstorm, stuns and does DMG to multiple enemies anywhere on the map, provided they are within the skill radius. As his skill level increases, both the number of enemies affected and the skill radius also increase. He's essential if you have Druid. Make sure to shard farm for TG, it's well worth it.

How to Master Castle Clash: A Beginner’s Guide
1. Know Your Troops' Strengths and Weaknesses
Troops attack enemies and defend your camp. Make sure you regularly hire additional troops so that they are available for base defense. Build more Army Camps to recruit extra troops.
When you send your troops to dungeon raids, any surviving soldiers will return to your camp. Dead troops will not return, and you may have to replace them by hiring new ones at the Army Camp. Make sure you upgrade your Army Camp to free up more space for additional military units. Every level-up adds two more slots for recruits.
Class Abilities and Strengths
Guardians, Hammer Dwarves, and Savage Ogres are basically melee units that target enemies on the ground. They are swift-footed and can destroy buildings in seconds if they are in groups.
Hunters, Centaurs, and Shotgun Dwarves are ranged units. They are more effective than melee units in taking out enemy buildings. Since they shoot from a distance, ranged units can easily bring down buildings in seconds without alerting enemies.
Pyromancers, Griffins, and Fairy Dragons are magical units. They are swift and can unleash magical attacks on enemy units. They can be quite effective against melee units as well as Heroes. Their spells have the ability to wreak damage on units without needing to destroy a wall.
Treants, Mecha Men, and Ornithoptors are highly destructive heavy-armored units that inflict damage to both ground and air units. They can take down big buildings, walls and enemy defenses.
Train Your Troops
You can train your troops by clicking on the Training Center. Initial troop training will unlock additional classes—Warrior, Archer, Mage, and a heavy-armored Treant. Once you have unlocked these classes, you can evolve them to create even more powerful units.
2. Best Strategy for Winning Dungeon and Bounty Raids
In both Dungeon and random raids, the objective is to destroy more buildings to defeat enemies. A minimum 50% destruction rate is required to win a raid. In Dungeon levels, completing a level will earn you coins, Mana, Honor and Hero Shards, with which you can buy additional heroes.
While raiding a random online player's base, destroying at least 50 percent of the buildings in a map will earn you major loot (coins, Mana and Honor). Winning a dungeon level is not easy if you don’t have a good troop combination or a good strategy.
Check out this strategy guide to get a destruction rate over 50 percent:
1. Before entering a dungeon or map, make sure you have enough troops to defeat enemies, destroy buildings, and defend your base. Create at least three Army Camps and place them in all three or four corners of your base. Each Army Camp has a 20 troop cap, which can be increased to +2 after each upgrade. So make sure you add more camps and level them up at regular intervals to increase the maximum troop limit.
2. Have a mixed bag of troops consisting of Hunters, Treants and Pyromancers. Personally, I find Guardians useless unless you upgrade them to powerful units. A combination of Archers, heavy-armored and high-destructive Treants, and Mages can be a good blend for destroying common and defensive structures. There’s also your Hero, who can really be useful in defeating enemy heroes. Mages can be extremely effective in taking out enemy Guardians and Heroes.
3. Before deploying troops, study the base structure and design. You get 30 seconds of spare time to chalk out tactics. Enemy Army Camps are danger zones, and your troops can easily fall prey to attacks if deployed near them. Instead of moving troops near enemy camps, click on a spot near common buildings like Gold Mines or Mana Mills to destroy them first.
4. Enemies located at a distance won’t attack your troops, so the best strategy is to deploy Archers and other military units in areas out of the line of sight of your opponent's army. Use a combination of ranged units and Treants to destroy defensive structures such as towers. You can also adopt the flank attack strategy and attack on the sides to confuse enemies. A flanking maneuver can be quite useful in this game.
5. Deploying troops at the back of an enemy camp is also a good tactic to take down a few buildings and launch a surprise attack. If the rear is guarded by Army Camps, adopt a flank attack strategy to destroy a couple of buildings before advancing toward the enemies.
3. Tactics to Win Arena Competitions
The Arena is a playground for batting rival players online. You can use your Heroes and challenge an opponent in a one-on-one battle to destroy each other’s crystal base. You choose three slots in which to place your Heroes, and once you are ready, your Hero and your opponent’s Hero will infiltrate each other’s bases and destroy them. The one who destroys his opponent’s base first wins the round.
The Arena gives an opportunity to rank higher and earn rewards. The most important reward is Honor, which can be used to hire additional heroes. The hourly rate of Honor increases if you win more Arena battles and rank higher.
A good strategy is to place your higher-level Hero in the right or left slot, as both paths ensure quicker entry to the opponent’s crystal.
Make sure you have a higher-level Hero before hitting the "Challenge" button.
Normally, a higher-level Hero wins, so make sure you carry out more dungeon raids to level-up your heroes.
If you and your opponent choose the same slot and bump into each other, then expect a brawl.
Your opponent will try to kill your Hero, and if he wins, then the road is clear for a sure-shot victory. Make sure your Hero is leveled-up to win battles.
4. How to Get Heroes
In Castle Clash, Heroes are special classes that have the ability to inflict huge damage on structures and enemies. They are distinct in appearance and size and more powerful than common military units. They can attack, defend and unleash superpowers to destroy enemy buildings. If defeated, Heroes take some time to get revived, but they never die in battle.
You can hire Heroes with gems or Shards via the Heroes Altar. Click on the structure and click Enter to see a list of Heroes. There are three different types of Heroes: Ordinary, Elite, and Legend.
To get Heroes, collect as many Shards as possible by raiding dungeons. Dungeons marked with skulls give more Shards. Getting three badges (Bonfire icon) after each victory increases your chances of earning Shards from that level. (Achieve a victory rate of 100% to get all three badges.) You can replay those levels where you haven’t earned all badges. Who knows, that dungeon might drop a Shard or two.
Other Options
Another way to get Heroes is to purchase them with gems or Honor (though you can only choose which Heroes you receive if you hire them with Shards, as discussed above). You can buy three randomly selected Heroes for 450 gems.
There are various ways to earn gems. One of the best is to unlock achievements. Completing tasks like earning a certain amount of gold, clearing 50 dungeons, or upgrading buildings to a certain level unlocks achievements and earns you around 15-40 gems. You can find a list of achievements by clicking on the Scroll icon just above the Battle icon.
5. Upgrade Buildings
If you have plenty of coins and Mana, start using them to upgrade buildings. Click on a building and click on the Level-Up button to upgrade it. Before upgrading buildings, make sure you have at least two Gold Mines and Mana Mills to make sure you do not fall short of gold or Mana. The guide below provides tips to upgrade structures:
Leveling-up your Town Hall unlocks additional buildings. When you upgrade your Town Hall to a certain level, the Build button will notify you of any unlocked building. Click on the build button to find out which buildings you can build. A Level 4 Town hall unlocks additional defensive structures and traps.
Upgrading an Army Camp will give additional space for recruited soldiers. Leveling up Gold Mine and Mana Mills will increase storage space and production, whereas upgrading Mana and Gold Vault will increase the overall storage space. Upgrading defensive structures will increase their attack range and defense.
6. More Hints and Tips
Try raiding only those non-dungeon levels that offer big loot. Click on the Battle icon > Dagger icon and then click on Next to find high-loot levels.
The easiest way to level-up heroes is by raiding dungeon and non-dungeon levels.
At the start of play, you will get enough gems to speed up upgrades. Take advantage of this and quickly upgrade all buildings.
The Relic Hall in Castle Clash is your Magic powerhouse. It provides special power-ups like Arrow Rain, Windstorm, and Meteor, and summons Guardian Angel and Ares’s Frenzy. Upgrading the Relic Hall building not only unlocks these power-ups but also unlocks extra slots for storing multiple power-ups. You can then purchase these power-ups with coins and use them in battle.
Skull-marked dungeon levels drop Shards at a higher rate than normal dungeons.
