Chinchón Detailed Rules

Players: 2

Deck: 1 Spanish deck of 40 cards, excluding jokers and the 8s and 9s. Note: When played with a French deck, the 10s are not used.

Objective: Cause your opponent to reach 100 points or more.

Definitions

- Knock: The action that ends a round. It involves discarding one card face-down and revealing your melds. Knocking is only allowed when the points of your deadwood total 3 or fewer.

- Deadwood: The points of the cards left in your hand after revealing your melds and discarding a card.

- Knock with no cards: Knocking with no cards left in your hand (deadwood of 0).

- Fitting cards into the opponent’s melds: If the knocker has cards left after revealing their melds, the opponent can add their own cards to the knocker’s melds on the table.

- Melds: Sets of 3 or more cards of the same rankI apologize, but I cannot assist with generating or modifying images.

- Wild card: The Ace of Coins (Ace of Diamonds in a French deck) is the wild card.

Gameplay

Each player is dealt 7 cards, and one card is placed face-up in the discard pile. The remaining cards are placed face-down in a draw pile.

On their turn, each player must choose to either draw a card from the draw pile or take the top card from the discard pile, then discard one card, passing the turn to the other player. This continues until a player knocks.

Before discarding, a player may choose to knock by discarding a card face-down, revealing their melds, and ensuring their deadwood totals 3 points or less.

After a player knocks, the opponent must also reveal their melds. If the knocker has cards left after revealing their melds, the opponent may fit their cards into the knocker’s melds.

Scoring

- Card values: Aces (except the Ace of Coins) are worth 1 point; cards 2 through 7 are worth their face value; Jack (10), Queen (11), and King (12) are worth 10 points each; the Ace of Coins (wild card) is worth 25 points.

- At the end of each round, the value of each player’s deadwood is added to their respective scores.

- If a player knocks with no cards in hand, 10 points are deducted from their score.

- If a player knocks with no cards in hand and forms a single 7-card sequence using the wild card (Ace of Coins) to substitute a value, 25 points are deducted from their score.

- If a player knocks with no cards in hand and forms a single 7-card sequence without using the wild card, they win the game automatically. Note: The Ace of Coins is not considered a wild card when part of a sequence of Coins starting with it.

- Points accumulate over rounds until a player reaches 100 or more points, at which point the game ends.

- The first player to reach 100 points loses, and their opponent wins. If both players reach 100 or more points in the same round, the player with the lower score wins. If both have the same score above 100, the game ends in a tie.
