Very confusing on how to activate

Activation fails

With the CieID app, you can access online services provided by the Public Administration and participating private entities through the "Enter with CIE" initiative. To activate your CIE credentials (level 1 and 2), visit www.cartaidentita.it, open the app, and set up simplified access.

Pertaining to the introduction of this app:

CieID is a tool that will allow you to access your Italian electronic identity card (CIE, for its acronym in Italian) from your smartphone. Completing a series of simple steps will make it very easy to have this document online without needing a physical card.

Get two levels of security

Within CieID, you will find two levels of security that will allow you to keep your data safe. In this sense, the tool will ask you for an OTP code whenever you want to log in. Similarly, this tool will allow you to perform specific actions when you log in with level 2 credentials. For example, changing your password, managing certificates, or updating particular data will be easy.

In parallel, level 3 credentials will be ideal for activating or revoking your certificates. Moreover, with this option, you can use NFC technology to read all the content on your CIE faster.

Retrieve your CIE PUK

Through the PUK Recovery feature, you can recover the PUK code of your electronic ID card. Just add the serial number in the upper right corner of your card to start a restoration process that will only take a few minutes.

Download the CieID APK for Android and enjoy all the possibilities offered by this app, created by the Italian Ministry of the Interior, through which you can store your documents online on your smartphone.

CieID app

Manage your digital identity and quickly access online services with the CieID app.

CieID

CieID is the app developed by the Italian State Printing Works and Mint (Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato) to access through the Electronic Identity Card (CIE 3.0), the services of the Italian PP.AA. and the services provided by the member states of the European Union in accordance with EU Regulation 910/2014 eIDAS.

The application is available for smartphones with Android 6.0 or above, or iOS 13 or above, equipped with NFC technology.

Run the App for the first time, register your Electronic Identity Card by entering the eight-digit PIN, bring the Card closer to the device when requested and authenticate to the services.

You can find the updated list of available services on the following page.

Remember:

the first part of the PIN is provided at the time of the request of the CIE issuance, the second part is delivered together with the Card.

Visit the website of the service you want to access, select the authentication mode “Entra con CIE” and follow the instructions to authenticate with your Electronic Identity Card.

You can authorize your PC access simply by:

- Scanning the QR code on the access request page with the app and entering the CieID app code you created during device certification. If you have biometrics activated, accessing is even easier as you can use it instead of the CieID app code.

or

- Entering your CieID credentials (username and password) on the access request page will trigger a push notification in the app for you to accept using the CieID app code or biometrics.

When accessing online services from a smartphone, authenticate with CieID credentials or open the app and enter the CieID app code, utilizing biometric recognition if available.

If you own an Android smartphone with version 6.0 and later, equipped with NFC technology, you can opt for maximum security access (level 3). After receiving your Electronic Identity Card, open the app, register your card by entering the eight-digit PIN, and place the card on the back of the smartphone when prompted.

The CieID app also provides the PUK Recovery feature for citizens holding an Electronic Identity Card who have linked their digital identity to an email address or phone number.

Because of the reviews I read, I thought it wouldn't work. But it actually went smoothly on the first try. Good job.

Ho comprato l'ultimo modello di smartphone e sulle specifiche ho visto che il supporto NFC non è incluso, ma non capisco il motivo.

I registered the card a while back and saved the data so that I wouldn't have to keep going to retrieve the pin papers. After an update, the data got lost and when I needed it, I didn't have the pin papers with me because I thought the card was still registered. Some procedures to recover the credentials are stuck in an infinite loop.

So, basically, it takes forever and is really hard to figure out. It's just super confusing and feels like a total mess!

The fingerprint to store the PIN is a good step forward, and the app is definitely improving. It's a shame that there are still so many steps to go through (putting the CIE number on the website, then QR, then fingerprint, reading, OTP...). Maybe a system like Poste ID (Scan QR, then after reading it authenticates automatically without needing to enter the OTP) would be desirable. Also, but this is basic, there are still very few public services that accept SPID and CIE (municipal services are missing!)
