It’s incredibly disappointing to see how this app

Which started with such good intentions

Has become useless without paying

The most powerful safety app for today’s world. Download Citizen to feel safer at home or out, get real-time safety alerts and live video of incidents happening near you, updates on natural disasters or protests, and know if your loved ones are near a dangerous incident.

Citizen notifications have urged people to evacuate burning buildings, deterred school buses from nearby terrorist attacks and have even led to a rescue of a 1-year-old from a stolen car. Citizen may notify you of a crime in progress before the police have responded. It's meant to protect you and your community — please use it responsibly.

NEW! See friends on your Safety Map: Know their safety status in a glance and find out if (and when) they are near a dangerous incident in real-time. You can turn on Ghost Mode to keep your location private at any time.

Get public safety notifications on your Android

If there's one place where it's important to be a good citizen, it's the United States. And what is a good citizen? Helping old ladies cross the street? Paying your taxes religiously? No, man, no. To be a good citizen is to be alert to any public disorder or security problem that may arise. Help the police! Help your community!

The neighborhood watch app you were looking for

So if you're motivated and feel vigilant, you can download Citizen, the application that will keep you abreast of any public safety issues in your neighborhood and raise the alarm if you see a suspicious movement. You can become a neighborhood watcher, because you're sure to have guns in your house, or call the police if you see someone darker than you lurking around the neighborhood. You know, that whole making America great again thing...

In short, what we have here is nothing more than the consequence of a society that is quite tared and paranoid. So if you're one of those who thinks that a jihadist cell has settled in your, so far, quiet Nebraska town, or that these Civil Rights hippies who smoke joints all day long have come all the way to Arkansas to steal your Bible, download the app now. It offers the following features:

-Get crime alerts before the police arrive.

-Real-time security alerts.

-Live video: Receive what other users are recording or share it yourself through the app.

-Keep your community safe: Report incidents instantly.

Requirements and additional information:

Minimum operating system requirements: Android 7.0.

Features

Oh no! I have the premium version on my Android and the free version on my iPhone. The free version sends me more helpful alerts more often, and they're more consistent too. On the paid version for my Android, the GPS is slow to update. It's a bit strange that the free version works better for me. I expected better results from the paid version. Right now, I don't plan on renewing my subscription because I'm not satisfied with it for the price. The tech support takes a long time to reply. I've had an open ticket for 3 months now, and they still haven't fixed my issues. It's really frustrating!

I really enjoy using this app. It keeps me in the loop about what's happening nearby and helps me plan my travel to steer clear of any problems. One thing I'd like to suggest is switching up the notification sound when there's a COVID update. The current sound is quite jarring, and it makes me think something major has occurred when it's just the usual statistics, which can be a bit bothersome. Besides that, the app is really handy and covers a lot of ground.

There have been a lot of changes to the app design. Many useful features are now missing. The updates about what's happening in your area have changed a lot. Even though the map shows your area as safe, the gunshot/firework detection feature doesn't show any alerts in areas where gunshots are reported. Before, you could add family members and track their location or send them messages. But now, there's no point in adding anyone else. It's not worth spending money on an app that's not working properly. Most reviews are outdated and don't reflect the current situation.

This app used to be amazing. I told my family and friends about it because it kept us safe. But now, all the cool stuff is only for premium users. And even changing my safety zone to my new home needs premium now! Just a while back, I could do this for free.

There's this app that sends alerts about big crimes happening all over the country. I don't really like that, so I try to turn off the notifications. When I scroll down to the bottom of the settings, I find something called "Major News". That must be what I need to switch off! But here's the issue: there's this annoying ad for a "Plus" subscription that covers up that setting! And it won't go away no matter what I do! So basically, I can't even get to the setting because the ad keeps getting in the way, pushing me to spend money on the app! It's frustrating! So, I just ended up deleting the app.

I really enjoyed using this app! It was so useful while I was here in NYC, keeping me updated on nearby incidents. I found it to be very handy...BUT, they recently restricted access to many features unless you sign up for their "plus" plan for $4.99 per month. Why do I have to pay just to view events older than 24 hours? That doesn't make sense at all! Gradually, more and more features are moving over to the plus plan. It's disappointing to see how much the app has changed since I first got it. What a pity.

I really like the app, but it needs more features and options to be truly helpful. I don't want to receive alerts from places I never visit that the app thinks are "nearby." I don't want to see news about car or house fires, but there's no way to turn off these notifications. I would come back to using the app only if the free version allowed me to choose which area I want to focus on.

I usually don't write reviews, but I have to share this: the app is amazing! It notifies you about any incidents in your area like crimes, fires, or earthquakes. It's super helpful, and I highly suggest getting it, especially if you live in a city. The only downside is that there aren't enough users on the app.
