How to Play
Begin with a themed crossword puzzle board and try to guess the words that fit in the boxes, each with unique trivia clues, hints, and categories. Connect the letters you are guessing and solve the clues. All crosswords have a hidden secret word to help CodyCross attain more knowledge.
1
Get ready to play CodyCross puzzles.
Open CodyCross.
Icon: CodyCross's app looks like a crossword puzzle in purple and yellow colors. It may sometimes show a slightly different theme on the app button for different seasons (flowers in spring, a pumpkin theme in fall/Halloween, and a holiday motif for Christmas).
Splash Screen: Wait for the screen to show CodyCross, the CodyCross Martian mascot.
- Although it's not too interactive, you can tap on CodyCross' hand to see him produce various unusable button pictures, but it's a far cry from what this menu used to show.
Tap the orange, yellow, and off-white Play button. This button is near the bottom of the screen, just below CodyCross.
- CodyCross may serve you a tutorial through the first few groups but can be turned on or off as you see fit in your Settings menu.
Collect what you are forced to collect through all the daily chests. When you are given your first daily chest after 24 hours of "play", you'll be forced to collect free goodies. Depending on your use of CodyCross, this may give you free power-ups to be used as free hints/cheats on your puzzles, and Bitz to be used in the CodyCross Library.
- Formerly, this used to give players different power-ups, and even before that primarily just CodyCross tokens. But has since been changed.
- If you play a puzzle when a daily chest opening time is ready, once you exit the group screen, you'll be pushed to open the new chest.
- If you don't have a chest ready to be opened upon entry into CodyCross, you will see a timer on the main game map. This timer will be shown as a treasure chest with purple edges in the top left corner of the screen.
2
Focus on the map setup.
CodyCross maps have several parts to them. Within a map, you'll have puzzles arranged on different levels. While you won't have to learn the types of maps and their parts, it's essentially a good idea to learn how they are set up to know how the puzzles are arranged.
Groups: Groups contain sets of five puzzles to be solved. As you solve puzzles, you'll complete groups. You complete groups to move on to the next group.
- Greyed-out buttons are disabled groups you won't be able to open until you've completed your current group of puzzles.
- As of July 16, 2024, there are currently 1760 groups.
Treasure Chest Groups: At frequent intervals, you'll come across special puzzle groups awarding various freebies and CodyCross Library Bitz. Once you begin a Treasure Chest group, there will be a treasure chest progress bar at the bottom of the Group screen, designating how many of the puzzles from that group have been completely solved. When the treasure chest group finishes, you'll be pushed to open the chest to collect your freebies.
- If you aren't asked (as for an uncommon glitch), you can go back and tap into the unopened Treasure Chest group and the freebie collection will start the process after tapping the "See what's inside" and "Claim your prizes."
Maps: Twenty groups make up a map. Your first map is called Earth (Planet Earth, on Android) as you'll see by the words in the center of the top of the app window. New maps come out at a cycle of one map per month.[1]
- As of July 16, 2024, there are currently 88 maps in various topics. New maps come out about once a month, with updates beginning about the first week of each month.
- After you solve these twenty groups in the first map, you'll proceed to the next map - Under the Sea, Inventions, and tons more.
- Scroll the map across the screen to view the entire picture, and watch as you complete groups in this map to see the picture. As you scroll along with the map's picture, the top and bottom information bars will disappear and re-appear once you've taken your finger off the screen.
- Much like Walt Disney created Hidden Mickeys at the Disney Parks, CodyCross has created hidden CodyCrosses. CodyCrosses are hidden within each map.[2]
- Tap the arrow buttons to move between maps if you'd like to look ahead or back. These arrows at the far right and left of the map allow you to "push" CodyCross to the next map. But pushing him ahead, won't give you access to solving puzzles on the new maps until you've completed all puzzles and groups on all the previous maps.
Pathways: Pathways connect all the groups. Pathways have no real virtual use, except to connect the groups. Strung together by white circular-dot pathways, puzzle group buttons are purple and oval buttons with orange rings positioned in the layer.
Puzzles: Puzzles contain a progress bar (at the puzzles' left) and a Play button (to its right). They are shown as Puzzle 1, Puzzle 2, Puzzle 3, Puzzle 4, and Puzzle 5 until they are solved and completed then will show you the puzzle's vertical word and a checkmark.
- Partial progress or unsolved puzzles will result in the lock of other groups on the map. In-progress bars will display beneath the play button for each puzzle, as they remain unsolved.
- As of July 16, 2024, there are 8,800 puzzles based on the current total number of maps and puzzles.
3
Focus on the map screen setup.
Tap the green and white play button to the right of a puzzle. This section you'll need to pay particular attention to because this is the prominent area of the screen you'll need to know.
Banners: You'll find a banner containing the button to change the appearance of your CodyCross icon and to collect additional tokens as you complete maps. Following this to their right, you'll spot the map name banner and button to fix CodyCross settings and report clues (called Words)
- Below this but still considered the top of the screen, you'll spot information about your Daily Streak (talked about later), Bitz, and tokens (along with a trigger button to get you to your token shop if there are free tokens to grab.
Puzzle area: The puzzle area contains lines where clues awaiting answers are found. Puzzle lines contain the same amounts of characters from line to line, but puzzle letter amounts will differ from puzzle to puzzle.
Power-ups (cheats): These helpers are shown between your puzzle and clue lines. At first, you'll only have access to the first power-up: the single-letter puzzle solver, but the further on into the game you get the more of the other power-up choices you'll get.
- Tokens can still be used to unlock accessible power-ups, but often tokens remain unused in-game for players who excel at solving clues.
- Players can - at the end - be asked to collect power-ups after Complete Puzzle solves are available to be used on subsequent puzzles.
Clues: Clues to solve are shown, as each line you advance from line to line in the Puzzle area. There is a 1:1 correlation (clue-puzzle line). Clues are shown on a purple bar in white text.
- At either end of the bar, arrow buttons move you up and down the puzzle lines one line at a time - completely skipping those you've completely solved correctly.
CodyCross Keyboard: CodyCross' keyboard appears below the clue line. Keys appear with a purple background and always show white-texted all-cap letters with a backspace button as the right bottom-most button. CodyCross uses its app-only keyboard because CodyCross only wants you to use alphabetic characters to solve their puzzles.
- Audible chimes tell you as you fill in letters of the answer and as answers are correctly answered or are backspaced through text, with other chimes as you complete lines.
4
Learn about puzzle lines.
CodyCross uses a systemized approach to showing you the differences between lines.
Grey is incorrectly filled lines.
Black is a completely correct solution.
- As lines complete, strobes appear as the grey text turns black and pulls letters from that answer into other unsolved rows in random patterns throughout the puzzle. The letters it uses are based on the words you completely solved, while towards the end, some lines may not populate any at all.)
- If you don't touch your settings and they disappear, the letters aren't correct and they'll auto-erase. However, you can turn auto-erase off in your CodyCross settings.
Keep an eye out for the split-phasing feature. Because CodyCross often uses word phrases, if an answer line consists of two or more words, a set of up and down arrows point to the location of the end of one word and where the next word begins.[3] This was an added feature from 2021 that's gone well for users and is well-appreciated.
- If you find a clue where the phrase split is incorrect, you can report the word in the menu drop-down, like reporting a clue or answer, but by selecting "Other" instead.
Learn about the special bonus (purple) line. Your special purple drop-down line is a special set of words that will connect the lines of your puzzle back to the map. These items can be anything from nouns to verbs and adjectives, to people and ideas!
- If you want to try and solve this word or phrase first (after receiving some of its letters), double-tap any of the purple spots on the drop-down line and fill in the remainder of the spots.
5
Solve a puzzle.
Solve lines of the puzzle using CodyCross' onscreen keyboard.
Very few ties between the puzzle and the map's name will exist, so if you encounter one, be thankful and solve it quickly.
Watch out for clues as to how CodyCross wants the word answered.
- Watch for single/pluralized used clues (designating single/plural word solutions). Pluralized clues will often yield pluralized answers. Single-mentioned clues will often yield single-form answers.
- Watch for gerund use, because suffixes in the clue often designate the suffixes used in the answer. Watch for ed's, ing's, and many more as you go through and mark them accordingly.
- Though CodyCross is now removing partially filled-in responses if you leave a puzzle, if you plan to stay for a bit, try to fill these in as you work your way down a puzzle.
Spot how clues fit together; you might receive names and you'll have to find out what they all have in common, fitting them together to form your answer.
Some puzzles - mentioned later - such as your Daily Crosswords - will often give you clues as to words to abbreviate and occasionally abbreviated words that you'll have to answer what it relates to in normal-speak.
Traditionalists fill in the easiest clues in first, skipping the unknown clues, and working their way back through the puzzle a second and third time.
- As you fill in lines, CodyCross will transpose additional letters throughout the remainder of the puzzle.
Give your best guess. It may yield a correct answer.
- You may end up asking questions to get the correct answer on the web or through speech devices such as Alexa, Hey Google, and Siri.
- There are also cheating methods, but this article frowns upon these cheats including researching by duplicating the clue into a search engine such as Google or Bing.
- There is the Game Solver for CodyCross website (which continuously updates with new levels as they are added), but the remainder of the cheat websites have stopped updating since mid-2020 and included CodyCrossAnswers and PuzzleAnswers.
- Very few places online host Today's Password cheats for mentioning the word of the day. These can be found at here and here. However, every so often these sites make mistakes and copy the answer from days before; so be forewarned that these aren't infallible sites and can make mistakes.
6
Learn about Power-ups.
CodyCross contains four types of power-ups/cheats as you progress.
Single Letter Power-Up: This power-up you'll get from the first puzzle to solve. It allows you to drag and drop power-ups onto unsolved letters to solve these letters. Drop them when the letter block turns a bright yellow. Each letter reveals (if you don't have bonus power-ups) are 1 token per letter.[4]
- In a random Facebook post, CodyCross called these power-up critters "Dibz".[5] Dibz becomes fascinated with lights, and is CodyCross' best friend.[6]
Random Reveal Power-Up: This power-up will reveal random letters throughout the puzzle on various lines. However, these will cost two tokens if you don't have bonus power-ups for them.[7]
- In a random Facebook post, CodyCross called these power-up critters "Liz".[8] She's cautious and confident but loves the deep blue sea - especially the rain she believes is in a map of its own.[9]
Letter Simplifier Power-Up: This power-up will disable unused characters for the clue line you select when you drag and drop them onto a line to solve, but takes two tokens if you don't have any bonuses of them available.[10]
- In a random Facebook post, CodyCross called these power-up critters "Voltz".[11] He's an expert speller but can be a bit impatient with several languages and can collect an anagram but helps CodyCross run his spaceship.[12]
Full-Line Solver Power-Up: This power-up will reveal every letter on a line as its correct answer, but if you don't have bonuses of them, it will take three tokens to use.[13]
- In a random Facebook post, CodyCross called these power-up critters "Twiz".[14] He's fast, but practical, and loves weather vanes.[15]
Learn what you'll receive if you have no additional tokens and no bonus power-ups available to be used. In this stage, you'll receive a dialog box saying "You need more tokens" and asking you to get "More Tokens".
7
Learn about the Puzzle's final screen.
Focus on the screen format for the finale screen.
On the puzzle end screen, you'll see a bonus bar begin to fill for the Library. Each puzzle- regardless of type - will yield power to fill for added Bitz.
Another area to its right is the purple bonus word/phrase that is seen. This phrase is encapsulated in a yellow ovular box with black lettering. It has no functionality other than to be seen and re-read.
To that's right, you may find a way to get additional freebie power-ups. Not included for pack puzzles, these will give you freebies if you tap a button to watch an ad. These can be valuable, but will often be repeatedly annoying.
Two other buttons are shown.
- A Continue button allows you to move on to your group screen (iPhone) or move to the next puzzle (Android). This is often what people click on first.
- On Android, tapping Continue will take you to an advertisement then once cleared away will take you to the next incomplete puzzle or new group's new first puzzle.
- A View Puzzle button below that, gets you back to the finished puzzle to show you all the completed answers in the puzzle, or to get you back to the puzzle to report clues/answers if the last clue/answer answered is reportable.
- Other buttons may replace these and include Share (for CodyCross Classic (once rated), Today's Password, and Daily Crossword puzzles) to share and mention that you've solved them and to invite others to join you on CodyCross.
Rate this question: This section asks you to rate a clue-answer clue pair. As of December 1, 2023, CodyCross displays pairs from clues other users have solved. A thumb-up and thumb-down are included, and you are the one to choose between the two at your rating liking.
- Guesses Chart: After a Today's Password try - whether through correctly solving or incorrectly solving, Rate this question will be swapped for your Guesses chart, and how today's answer relates to all the other guesses.
8
Learn about your bonuses.
CodyCross has some useful bonuses to collect.
Bonus Power-ups - as described earlier - gives you excellent cheats that allow you to be helped on various puzzles.
Person icons - give you additional personal player icons - changing the way you appear to your friends and colleagues.
Tokens - for completing maps and various other Achievements.
- In this section, you can find various achievements where you can collect tokens, but each item can vary in tokens awarded. Completing each map gives ten tokens each, along with various other goodies for reaching certain Library levels with Bibliophile (10 tokens) and Bookworm (20 tokens), and for solving 1 puzzle (10 tokens), 10 puzzles (10 tokens), 50 puzzles (15 tokens), 150 puzzles (20 tokens), and 500 puzzles (50 tokens).
Bitz - for buying books at the CodyCross Library.
- Bitz Leveling Bar Power - Each time you solve a puzzle (no matter what type of puzzle you're solving) in its entirety, you'll gain more Bitz Leveling Power. After a set number of Power surges, you'll gain more Bitz. However, as you move through the Library, the number of surges it will take to get your Bonus Bitz will increase.
CodyCross Library Map Books - As you complete maps, you'll receive in-game notifications that new books from your CodyCross Libary are being added. Map Books have curiosity (snippet) about the Maps and are available for all Maps.
- For players who joined a long time ago and are just returning, seeing this article, and getting the refresher view, CodyCross is adamant that they won't credit you for missed books from other maps. Instead, they are adding them as books to pick up in the CodyCross Library.
CodyCross Splash Screen Upgrades: New to the game, at various intervals starting at 1000 consecutive days (based on your Daily Streak Number), as you level past, the CodyCross mascot will get various upgrades from new insignias to visual goodies.
Sprint Volt Points: Each puzzle solved in a CodyCross sprint will net you 10 "points" which look like electric volts.
9
Learn about Events.
Unless otherwise mentioned, these game modes are available under the Events tab.
Learn about other game modes.
Sprint: Sprints provide you with ways to get additional bonus points if you win by solving puzzles throughout the app. You can obtain points by playing the maps, the missions, the package puzzles, the daily crossword, today's password, or another CodyCross puzzle within the app. The leader with the most points wins 3,000 Bitz, 2nd place wins 2000 Bitz, 3rd place wins 1,000 Bitz. You can sign up between every Friday at 6pm and every Sunday at 6pm - and each sprint ends 1 day later. (Each puzzle solved gives you 10 electric volts.)
- However, you must be past map group 60 to participate in this event.[16]
Missions: Missions provide you with additional puzzles that you can complete, from standard puzzle play to crossword-like puzzles in 25-30 puzzle varieties. These events have an expiration time which may be from a few days to some lasting to the end of the month in which they were started.
- These puzzles require energy, (and if you don't have their paywalled subscription which gives unlimited energy), you will start with enough energy for only three puzzles then move past that into the fourth and subsequent puzzles needing you to watch advertisement videos, or watch the clock tick down for 30 minutes per puzzle. The energy will be restored to three energy puzzles.
- Unlike all other puzzle types, you can't get back to previously-played puzzles once you select Continue to move on after completing a puzzle. However, the ability to view the complete puzzle still exists before tapping "Continue." Be forewarned that this is standard practice for these event types.
- Expeditions and Mini Quests: These provide the user with standard puzzle-play. You use the same rules above only in these puzzles with topics named on the banner for those on the vertical line phrase. After the sixth, fifteenth, and thirtieth puzzles will you receive (through Treasure Chests) power-ups, Bitz, and (at the end) a CodyCross book.
- Mini Quests have fewer lines to solve, making them shorter and quicker to complete, but the easiness of these can sometimes be tricky, too.
- Secret Trails: These special puzzles may look like ordinary CodyCross puzzles but aren't. As you work into lines of letters, some letters that include a graphic are transcribed into other lines containing that same graphic. Once all those letters are transcribed correctly, more letters fall into place. If the remainder of the puzzle isn't correct, you won't be told what's wrong and nothing will advance you until they become that. Themes are built into these special graphical tiles, which parallel the vertical lines of standard puzzle-play. If they are, you finish that. After the fifth, twelfth, and twenty-fifth puzzles will you receive (through Treasure Chests) power-ups and Bitz and (at the end) a CodyCross book.
- LunaCross: These puzzles, much like CodyCross' sister app, provide large, crossword puzzle word jumbles for you to solve. Based on the Daily Crossword brackets, many clues come up in a large area to solve, and you have to drag to switch letters from the puzzle into the displayed clue listed in the yellow-orange border onscreen. Once all letters are placed inside each clue in the requested order, you'll have solved the puzzle. After the fourth, tenth, and twentieth puzzles will you receive (through Treasure Chests) power-ups and Bitz.
- Voyages: These puzzles are crossword puzzles of the standard form - similar to your Daily Crosswords blocked puzzles. These will give you additional Bitz and Freebies at the end, with smaller Bitz at sporadic intervals. After the sixth, fifteenth, and thirtieth puzzles will you receive (through Treasure Chests) power-ups, Bitz, and (at the end) a lot more Bitz points.
Daily Crosswords: Two puzzles formed like traditional crosswords - are released daily solely from the Events page. These puzzles avoid a common theme and don't have a vertical-down line. You'll have two puzzles - a Small one and a Midsize one - to solve. The screen's functions have less functionality to help you (just the Single Letter Power-Up and Multiple Letters Power-Up exist), but some can be solved quickly if you know the answers to these clues. Solve all to finish the crossword, then try to solve the second to finish all your daily crosswords.
- New daily crosswords are released at midnight your local time, regardless of when you last solved the puzzles. Older unsolved and solved puzzles get sent to the Archive button below the Daily Puzzles section, where you can continue these puzzles or open up unopened/missed puzzles.
- Archives have every puzzle ever offered dating back to March 2021 - when this feature was released. However, if you solved the first day of the first months crosswords, it will take two days for CodyCross to start a new monthly group for that month and allow you to go back to those clue-answer pairs.
- To get this feature, you have to have solved all puzzles from groups 1 through 4 of the first map - Earth. After that, it's stipulation-free.
- Solving Archived puzzles won't help you continue a lost streak or extend the streak to older dates. However, they help in recognizing and solving clues in a potential knowledge database for duplicate clues at future times.
Today's Password: Today's Password is much like Wordle. CodyCross gives you either a 5 or 6-letter word to guess and gives you up to six tries to get it. Guess it right and you'll start a Victory Streak of consecutive days. If you don't get it right within those tries, too bad - you'll lose your Victory Streak and not be told the answer. Each time you input a word, you must submit the word with the submit button just below the Today's Password/Wordle puzzle board.
- Want to know the answer, if you didn't get them right and have CodyCross tokens? Spend five tokens to get the correct word,[17] but you'll still lose your victory and start over at the next cycle when you get the word correctly.
- Green letters show correctly-placed letters, while yellow shows that the letters are in the puzzle, but not in the correct place. However, by tapping the color inverted on the flip-switch between the puzzle and keyboard you can change them so the colors are blue and yellow instead.
- Formerly, CodyCross occasionally gave you 4-letter words, but at one point it was asked on the CodyCross Facebook group, then another one came out and 4-letter words became discontinued after that - in late-2022!
Themed Packs: In this section of the puzzles, you will be provided with additional CodyCross Classic puzzles in various themes and challenge levels for a total of 20 puzzles per pack: Piece of Cake, Easy, Medium, and Hard. However, each puzzle will cost two CodyCross tokens to play. The pack selection lines are swipeable to see other packs available. This is a no-longer updated section, but the games played here still work.
- Themed Packs are impossible to remove from your Recently Played section once first-opened/tapped, located above the puzzle packs you can choose. However, you will find it easy to contact CodyCross, if you ever encounter the need to remove one.
- Old played packs won't be removed after being played, but will show a checkmark when they get finished.
Daily Streak Chart: If you solve one puzzle each day without missing a day (except for puzzles in the Missions section), you will keep your Daily Streak going. The longer you keep the streak going, the better your prizes will be for solving these puzzles on the eighth consecutive day and the start of a new seven-day period. Information on where you are in the streak is shown below the Archive button in the section labeled "Daily Streak." on the Events tab.
- If you solve only one of the two puzzles, your streak will continue.
- However, if you miss solving a complete crossword and come back the following day to solve another, you will be prompted to keep the streak going by watching a video ad or paying ten CodyCross tokens.
Secret Messages: Can be played based on a friends-created board sent to you, or created through your CodyCross app.
- Sometimes, your tutorial may replay the Secret Message puzzle, even if you've seen it before.
10
Modify your Settings.
In the right corner next to your tokens section, you'll find a hamburger menu for all your settings.
From the basic list found inside just the drop-down inside all CodyCross pages of the map view, you can turn on and off the Music and Sound with toggle switches by tapping on each item.
However, by tapping "Settings" from this same list, you'll have access to more settings - all of which are toggle switches.
- Here, you'll spot additional spots to toggle on and off Sounds and Music.
- If you don't hear sounds and you have not touched your music-sounds options, check your vibration slider switch. CodyCross relies on having that slider switch so the device isn't in Silent Mode while playing. However, if you don't want to hear the sound during ads, slide your vibration switch to produce Silent Mode on your device.
- Skip Filled squares: Allows your puzzle list to skip over squares that are filled with correct letters and is a good idea to keep this on. But if this is off and the first character is filled in correctly, it will still skip that character up until the first character in the word where the letters will need to be filled in.
- Erase wrong word: Removes all incorrect letters from the word. (Word for the wise who can't type well on mobile, turn this off or the puzzle will remove all your letters after you've typed them (in the wrong spots).
- Select first slot: Moves your space selector to the first slot.
- This setting can be painful to have on, if you have erase wrong word turned off. If you try to correct one letter outside of the first letter, the game will seem like the cursor won't move and you can't move into this letter's box. Try to keep this one turned off.
- Vibration: Get vibrations for every character press in a puzzle and during correct/incorrect line solves.
- This feature should work, regardless of your vibration switch setting.
- Make sure the Country is set to your country and your Language is set to your language. Although you'll initially be set up to run English CodyCross when you first enter, you can change the language and run two or more language versions - switching between them with this drop-down box.
- The eleven languages they provide are English, Portuguese. Spanish, Italian, German, French, Turkish, Dutch, Russian, Korean, and Japanese.[18]
- Look out for Social Sign-ins. One controls your ability to sync between phones (if your phone gets changed or is stolen) - Facebook - and the other is for Apple/Google (iPhone/Android) and has been noted lately that this also controls sign-in syncing from select devices.
- Reset Progress: Pressing this button and confirming tells CodyCross to set you back to the very first puzzle in the first map the next time you open CodyCross to fill in the puzzles.
- Help: This is the Help menu. It displays buttons to connect you to Fanatee Customer Service and displays all their FAQ details.
- Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, and Manage Data: Display the "Small print" for both your utilization of the app and their needs to provide details for their systems.
- Manage Data also gives you the ability to remove all your data with the "Erase Personal Data" and close your account at the very bottom of the screen.
Report Word: Report clue and solution word issues. If you ever experience either wrong answers or inaccurate information or even a mistype of a clue that CodyCross has made, you can report them. Find the clue that needs fixing, and tap the OK button once it's been selected in the slider. Tell them the reason using the next slider and press OK. Fill in the Explanation in the email to the CodyCross Reports Line at codycrossreportword@fanatee.com. Once complete, submit the report, explaining what's happening and why you feel it's wrong. Send it off once your report is complete.
- Avoid using the direct-email link above, as Fanatee needs the propagated additional information when you click the link inside the app to contact them.
Other possible choices in various places:
- What's New gives you a rundown of the newest features CodyCross has added and changed.
- CodyCross World gives you additional information about each character and power-up mentioned here - all details included already.
- More Games gives you choices to look at other Fanatee-owned games and a quick link to these in your AppStore (iPhone) and Google Play Store (Android).
11
Use the CodyCross Library and Bookstall.
Although not devoted much to "playing", there is a method to Fanatee's madness in "learning" from the CodyCross Library. However, it's two parts under one tabbed "roof."
Library: As you complete puzzles and maps, you'll be given Bitz, a point-like system used to buy Bitz-based curiosity (snippet) books in the CodyCross Library. The books are placed on your Bookshelf, and once you have enough, you'll level up (with graduated leveling).
- As your Library grows, you'll earn experience points so that your Library can grow. Each theme has unlimited bookshelves that can be stocked (with eight books on a shelf), Use your Bitz often and keep buying books. With books at 500 Bitz, 2000 Bitz, and 2500-5000-10000 Bitz, there's a lot to using Bitz that will, by the end, just seem to pile up.
- Buying books - regardless of purchase type - gives experience points to the next Library level. But, the amount you get for each book isn't equal to the original purchase price, but rather on preset values leveling according to CodyCross.la
- Green titles are completed Bookshelves and white titles are partially filled shelves.
- On the Library bookshelf page, you'll see your bookshelf level and progress to the next level.
Bookstall: Your Bookstall is your book store where you can buy, as well as a place where you can earn free daily and hourly Bitz. Each tile lists how much the book will be - except the daily (refreshing each midnight) Free Bitz collection(ad-free) and hourly collections (up to two collections, but each with a necessary ad-video) - and you can tap these entries to buy the books.
- As of February 21, 2024, there are bookstalls for Anthology, Celebrations, Cinema, Entertainment, Fauna, Flora, Food and drinks, History, Music, Sports, Technology, and Tourism.
- You can also Update Offers on your Bookstall page with other unpurchased books, using your CodyCross tokens. At first, Updating Offers to these shelves will cost five Tokens, but upon the second Update, it'll cost 10 tokens - found on a button at the very bottom of the Bookstall - so spend your tokens wisely.
- Books have a small spread (curiosity) for each book you open, and when purchasing a book.[19]
- Some new books you can purchase daily with real money - no Bitz or tokens needed. These have a yellow banner and button and on their yellow button, they have their price as an in-app purchase.
- You'll find how many Bitz points you have near the top of your Bookstall page.
- Don't see new books and have received your daily Bitz? No problem, have patience; more books are available occasionally. New books get added with almost every game update.

Get Tokens, Shields, and Bitz at the Shop.
Tokens: CodyCross makes money through people's use of purchases. Although Apple and Google also make money off these same purchases, people can often find it useful to purchase goodies when their supply runs out (or super low). The purchasable ones change monetary values often - through greed and the powers of inflation in the economy.
A pack of 20 tokens is $1.99, 56 tokens and a month of ad-free game-play is $4.99, 120 tokens and 3 months of ad-free gameplay is $9.99, 320 tokens and 6 months of ad-free gameplay is $24.99, or 750 tokens and 1-year ad-free gameplay is $49.99!
CodyCross also gives users additional Offers (sets of different helpers), found above the Get Tokens section of the page. However, the sets have changed over time, as well as the prices of these sets.
Free Tokens:
- Tokens can be obtained for free too. But you must watch a video (per token) first. Select the 1 Token slot's video-camera button, watch the video after closing the video up, and collect your free token (using the Collect button). You can run this twice in 60 minutes, with a timer set to prevent collecting others.
- Towards the bottom of the page, CodyCross reminds you that you can sign up for the Facebook Group and 20 free tokens each for inviting friends to try CodyCross with your link towards the bottom of the page.
Bitz: Use your Tokens to buy Bitz for the CodyCross Library. With Bitz in sets of 2000 (for 50 Tokens), 10k (for 200 tokens), and 45k (for 750 tokens), you'll need to save up quite a lump sum of tokens for purchasing these - if you can't make it to collect enough tokens from the Bookstall.
Cogni Shields: Purchase Cogni Shields to protect a streak from expiring - or even for a rainy day when things go amiss and you end up accidentally intentionally - miss completing a puzzle. Each Cogni Shield you purchase is 5 tokens, and you may "buy" up to two shields. Shields don't expire until they are used, and you can check how many shields you own after clicking "Activate" inside the Cogni Shields banner on the Shop page.
Premium Access: Although most players refuse to sign up because of financial needs, Premium Access provides benefits, more puzzles and helpers than you are without this plan in-app add-on. You can learn more by clicking the "Learn More" button inside the "Premium Access" banner directly underneath the "More Products" banner.
On an iPhone, your options to pay with ApplePay or a credit card attached to your Apple ID will show. Android phones will have different default payment options, depending on your device.

Community Q&A
Where do you find your friends?
Christopher:
*Top Answerer
Your friends should be found on the map, as you advance from group to group. However, not very many people are all that far up the chain, so most don't get very far. As you jump from group to group, there may be other circles with your friends from Facebook or another connected social networking group associated to CodyCross.
Please explain the chart at the end of daily password.

The chart lists your individual solve times. If you solved it in 1 word (not too often), your bar would fill to designate this at this level. If you solved it in 2 words, your bar would fill there instead. Its a personal goal tracker of where your passwords were solved and how good you are at what most people call Wordle.
Under achievements it has one and done. What do I do to get the reward?
