Paint by Numbers – Instructions

Understand the Numbers:

On your canvas, you will find the picture you are going to paint. The different sections are numbered according to the color you should paint them. This gives you clear directions for how to paint by numbers on your canvas.

Mixing Colors:

If some of the paints are too thick, feel free to mix in a bit of water to dilute them. Be careful not to use too much water so that the color keeps its vibrancy.

Some sections of your painting may have two numbers on them, indicating that you need to mix colors to get the correct tone. Mix colors slowly and carefully, using the same amount of paint from each color. Wash your brush between dips into the color pots to avoid contaminating the colors. You might want to use a toothpick to mix the colors, especially for very small areas.

Tips and Tricks

Use Dark Colors First:

Start with dark colors to help you see the overall effect of the colors and understand the composition quicker.

Cover the Numbers:

Use enough paint to cover the numbers on the canvas, but not too much to avoid running into neighboring sections. Paint one layer, let it dry, and then add another layer if needed.

Start at the Top:

Start painting from the top to avoid smudging the paint with your arm. You can also choose to start on the right or left side of the picture, depending on which hand you use.

Take Care of Your Tools and Materials:

Ensure you close your color pots properly when not in use to avoid them drying out. Clean your brushes well after each use.

Take Your Time:

Painting should be relaxing and enjoyable. Don’t rush your work, as it will help you stay accurate and achieve a better end result. Let your paint dry well, especially if you want to paint more than one layer over a specific section.
