DeepL Pro in the mobile apps

Can I use the DeepL app on my mobile device with my DeepL Pro subscription?

Yes, it is also possible to use a DeepL Pro subscription in the DeepL for Android app. To do so, please tap on Log in to DeepL Pro under Account in your app's settings.

Once you have logged in to DeepL Pro, you will see your email address displayed in the Account field in the app settings.

To log out, please tap on Log out under Account.

Please make sure to log in to your DeepL account to enjoy the data security benefits offered by DeepL Pro in the DeepL for Android app.

Some other features offered by DeepL Pro are not supported in the DeepL for Android app at the moment. More features of DeepL Pro are available on our website through a browser on your mobile device.

Translating text from images

To translate text from an image, please do the following:

Open the mobile app and select the languages.

Tap the Camera button beneath the source text field. The interface will switch to text scanning mode. If permission wasn't granted yet, allow DeepL to take pictures and record videos.

Tap the Image button in the bottom-left corner of the app.

Choose a picture.

Confirm the selection by tapping the Tick button.

The text from the picture will be inserted into the source text field and translated to the language of your choice.

The feature currently doesn't support Greek and languages using the Cyrillic script as the source language.

Please note that translations of small, badly lit, handwritten, or stylized text may not be accurate.

Reading translations in a non-Latin alphabet

Is it possible to read a translation written in a non-Latin alphabet in the Latin alphabet?

Yes, with the DeepL mobile apps you can convert non-Latin translations into the Latin alphabet. The conversion of a language from one alphabet into another is also known as transliteration.

If you translate text into a language that uses a non-Latin alphabet you're not familiar with, e.g. the Cyrillic alphabet or Chinese characters, you can view the transliteration of the translation in our DeepL mobile apps for Android and iOS.

This feature will help you improve your reading comprehension in the following languages: Bulgarian, Chinese (Simplified), Greek, Japanese, and Russian. It is not supported for translations into Korean or Ukrainian.

Please note that this feature is currently only available in the mobile apps.

The transliteration of your translated text will be displayed right below your translation. You might need to minimize your keyboard to view the whole transliteration.

For longer texts, the transliteration will not be displayed automatically. Minimize your keyboard and tap on Show in Latin alphabet below your translation to display it.

Tap on Hide this variant to remove the transliteration.

Please note that transliteration is currently only available for translated texts and not for the original text.
