2. How to read the map
Our in-app map shows you where you can ride and park – here’s how to read it.
Keep in mind you may not see all of these zones & icons on your map based on the parking situation in your city.
No-go zone: To avoid a fine, don’t ride or park in red areas – this includes places outside the riding area.
Low-speed zone: We’ll automatically slow your speed in yellow areas.
No-park zone: To avoid a parking fine, end your ride outside of gray areas.
Dedicated parking spots: Parking spots are marked by a blue “P”. You must park in one of these spots if they appear on the map – keep in mind you might need to zoom out a little to see them. You’ll also need to park in these spots if you’re in a light blue area of the map (see “Dedicated parking zones” below).
If there aren’t any “P” parking spots on the map, this means you can park anywhere general parking guidelines as long as you follow the. Keep in mind, however, that you may just need to zoom out a little to see the parking spots.
Dedicated parking zones: In light blue areas, you must park in one of the blue “P” parking spots mentioned above. Outside these light blue areas, you can park anywhere as long as you follow the general parking guidelines.
Parking zones: In dark blue areas, you can park anywhere as long as you follow the general parking guidelines.
If you’re unsure where to park, check the app – it will tell you if you can end your ride where you are, or if you need to move to a dedicated parking spot.
When you’re on the go, we recommend heading to “Help & legal” then “Map guide” in the menu for info on the parking situation in your location.
3. How to ride Dott scooters
First things first: you need to have an active internet connection to find a Dott, unlock it and end the ride after you’ve arrived.
1. Starting your scooter ride
Once you've found a scooter,
Scan the QR code on top of the scooter and tap “Unlock” and “Start ride” to get going.
Having trouble scanning the QR code? You can also enter it manually by tapping “abc”.
Make sure that you’ve kicked up the kickstand so that it’s no longer touching the ground.
2. Do a safety check
Before every ride, check:
Are the lights working?
Do the brakes work? (Squeeze the brake levers to make sure)
Are the tires full?
Are there any wires hanging loose?
Is there any visible damage to the vehicle?
How much range does the scooter have left?*
If anything seems to be damaged or malfunctioning, please report it to us and find another Dott to ride. You can report a damaged vehicle to us by selecting the vehicle on the map and tapping “Report issue”.
3. Ready to ride
To start, place one foot on the board, put both hands on the handlebars and push off hard with your other foot a few times (e-scooters can feel quite heavy the first time, so don’t be shy to give it a good push!).
To accelerate, gently push the throttle with your right thumb.
Go easy the first time – our scooters can go quite fast.
Once you’re riding, keep both feet on the board.
Squeeze both brake levers to brake – don't use your feet!
Avoid hard braking and accelerating on smooth, slippery surfaces.
4. Ending your ride
Always end your ride in an area where you’re allowed to park. Not sure where you can park? See How to read the map.
Once you’re in an authorized parking spot, tap “End ride”.
Kick the kickstand back down so that your vehicle stands upright.
We recommend checking our Parking guidelines section for details on how & where to park.
When riding, always follow our Safe riding essentials. Failure to do so may result in a legal fine, so make sure to give them a quick read before you ride.
If you ever need a quick refresher on how to ride our scooters, tap “Help & legal” then “How to ride our scooters” in the app.
Enjoy your ride!
4. Where to park
To adapt to each city’s unique infrastructure and traffic scene, our parking situation can differ slightly between cities. If you want specifics on where to park in your current location, head to “Help & legal” then “Map guide” in the menu.
Parking in a dedicated parking spot
In some cities, or in areas of a city marked in light blue on the map, you need to park in a dedicated parking spot. Don’t worry, in these cities the app will tell you if you need to move to a dedicated parking spot.
When you’re ready to end your ride, check the in-app map for a nearby parking spot indicated by a blue “P”.
You can tap on a parking spot to see how far away it is, if there’s still space available, and to get navigation to that spot.
If you’re unsure which parking spot is closest or the app says the spot you've chosen is full, in some cities you can tap “Find parking” and we’ll suggest a route to the nearest available spot. (Dedicated parking spots become full once they hold the maximum number of Dotts allowed by the municipality, even if there is still space for other vehicles.)
Keep in mind that parking spots may not always be physically marked on the street, but they’re always indicated by a blue “P” on the map – that’s why we recommend checking the app first.
Parking anywhere with care
In other cities, you can park anywhere as long as you follow the general parking guidelines. You might see recommended parking zones, indicated in dark blue, where we suggest you end your ride to keep the city neat.
Whenever you’re unsure where to park, check the app – it will tell you if you can end your ride where you area, or if you need to move to a dedicated parking spot.
General parking guidelines
No matter where you’re parking, please follow these guidelines to keep our streets safe for everyone.
Do…
Park your Dott in an upright position using the kickstand
Take a parking photo when prompted – make sure that the photo is in focus and shows where the vehicle is parked, without showing yourself or other people
Don’t park…
In no-park zones, no-go zones, or outside the riding area – you’ll find these zones indicated on the map, so have a quick look before you start your ride
Blocking the sidewalk, roads, bike lanes, bus stops, and exits
On private property and private driveways
On wheelchair ramps and tactile paving for the blind
In areas that need to stay free for safety reasons, like hospital entrances
If you don’t follow these parking guidelines, you risk a fine of up to €300 (or your local equivalent), in addition to possible legal fines from the city. You also risk a fine if your parking photo shows incorrect parking or is illegible, so make sure you follow the app's parking prompts and step back far enough to get the entire vehicle in your shot.

Ensure safety for yourself and others while on the move:
* Ride in bike lanes or on the road
