How to play Blackjack at DoubleDown Casino

This article discusses features specific to DoubleDown Casino on Facebook and DoubleDownCasino.com. For mobile versions, please review How to play Blackjack in the DoubleDown Casino mobile app.

DoubleDown Casino features Player's Suite® Blackjack. To view the rules at any time while playing, mouse over the word Rules.

Blackjack is a classic card game in which you play against the dealer to see whose hand can get closest to 21 without going over. The game uses standard playing cards and assigns them numerical values:

    - Face cards (Kings, Queens, and Jacks) are worth 10.

    - Aces can be worth 1 or 11. The game will automatically choose the value for Aces to give you the best hand.

    - Numbered cards (2 through 10) are worth their face value.

The suits of the cards do not affect the hand in Blackjack.

Player's Suite® Blackjack uses six decks of cards to build its play deck. The play deck is shuffled in full after each hand.

To begin playing, place a bet. Select an amount by clicking one of the chip icons on the lower left. Your starting bet can be as low as 1,000 chips (1K) or as high as 1,000,000 chips (1M). Once you have selected your starting bet, click the glowing circle at the center of the table to place your chips down. You can tap a different chip icon and tap the circle again to add both chips to your current bet. Click the circle multiple times to add the currently selected chip size to your bet with each click, or click the 2x Double Bet button to double the current amount. Click Clear All to start over, and Deal when you are ready to start the hand.

At the beginning of a Blackjack hand, the dealer gives you two cards, face up. The dealer takes two cards as well, one up and one down. You can choose to HitStand, or Double Down. If the first two cards you receive are of equal value (a 10 and a face card, for example), you will have another option: Split

    - Hit

Take another card from the dealer. This action may be repeated until you choose to Stand or until your card total exceeds 21 and you go bust.

    - Stand

Accept your current hand as final. No more cards will be dealt to you, and it is now the dealer's turn.

    - Double Down

Take exactly one card from the dealer and double your bet for this hand. You cannot choose to Hit after you have Doubled Down.

    - Split

If the first two cards you receive are of equal value (a 10 and a face card, for example), you can Split the hand. The cards will be separated into two hands that you can play individually. This automatically adds chips to double the original bet, so that each of the split hands has the same wager. Splitting is covered in greater detail in the advanced Blackjack rules.

Winning in Blackjack

The word Blackjack refers to a winning combination where exactly two cards add up to 21. This combination is made up of one face card or 10 and one Ace. A winning Blackjack pays out at 3 to 2. This means that a 1,000 chip bet pays out 2,500 for a Blackjack.

It is possible to achieve a hand that equals 21 without having a Blackjack. If your hand includes more than two cards, it may still be a winning hand, but it cannot be a Blackjack. A standard winning hand pays out at 1:1. This means that a 1,000 chip bet pays out 2,000 chips.

It is also possible to have a winning hand that does not add all the way to 21. At the end of a hand where neither you nor the dealer hits 21, you win if:

    - Your cards have a higher total value than the dealer's.

    - Your cards stayed under 21 while the dealer's cards went over.

If you and the dealer have equal hands at the end of play, it is considered a tie, also known as a push. In the event of a tie, there is no winner or loser. The chips you bet are simply returned to you.

At the end of the hand, click Rebet to place the same starting wager as you had on the previous hand, Rebet & Deal to place that wager and start the next hand, or Clear All to change your wager.

Rules the dealer must follow

The dealer must draw on 16. This means that if the dealer's hand equals 16, the dealer must take another card.

The dealer must stand on 17. This means that if the dealer's hand equals 17, they cannot take another card from the deck.

Options: Turbo, Insurance, & Safety Net

DoubleDown Casino Vegas Slots Click the wrench icon at the lower left to open the Options menu.

    - Speed

To play more hands in a shorter time frame, change the speed to Turbo. This will eliminate the animations for dealing.

DoubleDown Casino Vegas Slots You can turn Turbo on or off at any time during the game by clicking the lightning bolt icon at the lower right.

    - Graphics Quality

If your game is running slowly, you might try a lower graphics quality setting.

    - Offer Insurance

As a default, the game offers you insurance based on the dealer's face-up card. You can set it to do so Only on Player Blackjack, so that the insurance offer is based on your hand rather than the dealer's. You can also set it to stop offering insurance for any reason.

    - Safety Net

This is a feature of Player's Suite® Blackjack that offers guidance as you play. If you are about to make a play that is considered a risky move, the Safety Net pops up to ask if you are sure. This feature can be disabled.

    - Voice

You can turn the dealer's voice on or off without having to turn off the other sounds in the casino. If you have disabled all sounds in the casino already, this option will be grayed out.

How to play Video Poker at DoubleDown Casino

DoubleDown Casino features Game King™ Video Poker. To play, choose Video Poker in the casino lobby.

Video Poker challenges you to build the best possible hand with 5 cards in 2 draws. Your initial draw gives you the 5 starting cards. Choose the cards you want to keep, then draw again to replace the rest. If your hand contains any combination listed in the paytable, you win!

The paytable is different for each variety of Video Poker. Some games recognize winning combinations that other games do not. Make sure to look at the paytable when you start playing, so you know what cards will have the most value.

The paytable will be displayed above or along the sides of the game throughout, but you can view more details at any time by clicking See Pays.

Some games invite you to choose your starting wager, while others start with a default wager. Returning to a game you have played before will start you with the same wager as at the end of your last session. Increase or decrease your wager by increments with Bet Up and Bet Down. Chips are deducted when you click Deal.

Video Poker Options

Note: The Options button is found on the paytable for certain varieties of Video Poker.

    - Change background colour

Choose your favorite shade for the virtual card table.

Play a hand

Click Deal to draw your initial hand of 5 cards.

Choose which cards, if any, you want to hold. Use any combination of the following actions:

    - Click individual cards

    - Click and drag two or more adjacent cards

    - Click a card a second time to cancel the hold on it

When you are happy with your held cards, click Draw. You will be dealt new cards to replace any you haven't held. This is your final hand, and you will be awarded if you have a winning combination.

You must choose the cards you want to hold before hitting Draw. Even if the initial deal gave you a perfect hand (a straight, flush, or full house, for instance), you must tell the game you want to keep all 5 cards in order to get credit for the win.

Advanced Blackjack rules

If you're just getting started in the game, you may wish to review the basic rules and controls for Player's Suite® Blackjack at DoubleDown Casino. If you're already familiar with the game, read on to learn more about the in-depth rules regarding splitting and insurance.

Rules for splitting hands

It is possible to Split twice within one hand. Say you are originally dealt a 10 and a Jack, and you choose to Split. You now have two hands in play (10 & J). If the next card you are dealt on your 10 is a Queen, you have the option to Split again. You now have three hands in play, all showing equal value (10, J, & Q).

However, it is not possible to Split again from a hand that was already split. That means that the hands showing 10 and Queen must be played; your options will be Hit, Stand, and Double Down. However, the Jack hand has still only been split once. If a King comes up on the Jack, you will have the option to Split again.

If you Split on two Aces, no further splits are allowed. A Split on two Aces acts similarly to a Double Down in that only one card will be added to each half of the split hand.

Insurance

If the dealer's first card is an Ace, you have the option to add insurance on your bet. Insurance costs half the amount wagered on the hand. If your initial wager was 10,000 chips, you can buy insurance for an additional 5,000.

Insurance protects you from losing if the dealer has a Blackjack. You must still have a viable hand, however; if you go bust before the dealer's Blackjack is revealed, insurance will not protect you.

If the dealer has a Blackjack, and your hand stands at 21 or under, the insurance will return your bet to you, including the cost of the insurance itself.

If the dealer wins the hand with anything other than a Blackjack, insurance does not cover the loss.

How to play Roulette at DoubleDown Casino

This article discusses features specific to DoubleDown Casino on Facebook and DoubleDownCasino.com. For mobile versions, please review How to play Roulette in the DoubleDown Casino mobile app. For details on the odds shown in the Roulette paytable, view Understanding bets and odds in Roulette.

DoubleDown Casino features Player's Suite® Roulette. Roulette is a straightforward game of chance. Place your bet on a number or combination of numbers, then spin the wheel. If your number comes up, you win! Winning bets pay out based on the odds.

How to place a bet

Bets can be placed on any number, at any line between two or more numbers, on any corner where lines connect multiple numbers, or on the special bet pattern buttons. Hover your mouse over any spot on the betting table to see the odds for that bet. The numbers included in the bet will be highlighted as well.

DoubleDown Casino Vegas Slots

The options to the left of the betting table represent special bet combinations you can make with a single click.

    - Splits places bets on each pair of adjacent numbers of the same color.

    - The dragon formation selects a pattern in that color, snaking across the table.

    - 1-18 places bets on each number in that range.

    - Odd selects all odd numbers on the table.

    - The red and black diamonds select all numbers of their color.

    - Even selects all even numbers on the table.

    - 19-36 places bets on each number in that range.

    - 1st 12, 2nd 12, and 3rd 12 choose those full blocks of numbers.

    - 2 to 1 at the bottom of each column will select that full column.

    - Find a lucky combination? You can save up to 6 patterns for future bets. Use Save Pattern and assign a slot from 1 to 6. If you're done with a saved pattern and want to free up a slot again, use Clear Pattern and select the slot to erase.

Standard Roulette bets start with a single chip. Select an amount by clicking one of the chip icons below the betting table. You can bet as low as 1,000 chips (1K) or as high as 1,000,000 chips (1M).

Once you have selected your chip size, choose where to set your chips down on the betting table. Each click will place the selected chip size. If you change your chip size during the betting process, your bets will be removed from the table, and you will start over again. There is no way to mix chip sizes on a single spin.

In standard Roulette, you can also place bets on combinations of numbers based on their position on the wheel.

DoubleDown Casino Vegas Slots

Use the + and - buttons to set the size of your selection. Then click any number on the wheel, and you will place bets on that number as well as the neighboring numbers in each direction. For instance, in the image above, clicking 17 would place bets on 2, 25, 17, 34, and 6.

Click the 2x Double Bet button to double the current amount (if you are betting on multiple numbers or patterns, this will double all piles of chips, not just the most recently placed). Click Undo to take back your most recent action, Clear All to start over, and Spin when you are done betting.

Understanding bets and odds in Roulette

Inside Bets vs. Outside Bets

On the paytable, the odds for different types of bets are listed. Inside Bets refer simply to bets placed inside the betting table, while Outside Bets are placed using the preset buttons for bet combinations (this does not include the saved pattern buttons). It is possible to place both Inside and Outside Bets on a single spin.

Inside Bets have higher payouts, because they are higher per-number bets. An Inside Bet starts with placing a chip on at least 1 and no more than 6 numbers. Outside Bets start with placing a chip on a combination of 8 or more numbers. The fewer numbers eligible to win per chip, the higher the odds and payout.

Inside Bets

    - Place a Straight Up bet by setting your chip on any single number.

    - A Split is any two adjacent numbers. Click the line between two numbers to place a Split bet.

    - Place a Three Numbers bet by clicking a row at the furthest left point (the numbers highlight to show the selection before you click).

    - Click the intersection of four numbers to place a Corners bet.

    - Place a Six Numbers bet by clicking the furthest left intersection between two rows, selecting the rows above and below the line.

Outside Bets

    - A Dozen is a bet placed using the 1st 12, 2nd 12, and 3rd 12 buttons.

    - A Column is a bet placed using the 2 to 1 button below a column.

    - Odd-Even bets are placed using the Odd or Even buttons.

    - High-Low bets are placed using the 1-18 (low) or 19-36 (high) buttons.

    - Red-Black bets are placed using the red or black diamond buttons to select all of a color.

The app is really bad. It works too slowly compared to my other casino apps, and it's not because of my system. When I'm in the middle of free spins, it just keeps lagging, and I can't even finish them or collect my wins. Contacting support is also a hassle; it shouldn't be so complicated to send an email. They should just provide an email address instead of making me go through multiple pages to submit a request.

I've played this app for a while now. Recently, the games seem like they'll be enjoyable, but they run so poorly that I end up quitting. They're really slow sometimes. If I manage to win, I have to wait for the app to be ready for the next spin. A few times, I was all set to play when suddenly all the lines disappeared and stayed that way. When I pressed the spin button, the lines just kept spinning without stopping. I'm not sure what's going on, but playing has become really annoying.
