Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle is an online game based on the popular Japanese manga series by Toriyama Akira.

Since Dokkan Battle includes aspects taken from puzzles, collectible card titles and traditional board games, it should appeal to a large variety of users. The majority of the game takes place on a map that resmbles a classic tabletop RPG. A number of spots are dedicated to different items, power-ups and traps.

Eventually, your character might land on a space occupied by an aggressor. At that point, a fight ensues. In spite of the fact that Dragon Ball Z is a franchise largely built on physical combat, Dokkan Battle's designers decided to take a very different approach to it.

Your player character fights with NPCs via a match-3 system that resembles the scheme used by a number of popular casual releases. Various orbs are placed between your character and your opponent. You need to match balls of different colors to use special abilities to pull off powerful attacks.

Over time, you'll probably beat all of the potential opponents the basic game has to throw at you. In order to progress, you'll need to unlock new opponents from an in-game store.

Hardcore fans of the original DBZ series might be a little disappointed with this method, since many other Dragon Ball games have instead relied on side-scrolling fights that better mirror what you'd see on screen on in the pages of Shūkan Shōnen Janpu. New players, however, should find that this method makes it much easier to learn how to play.

    A good friend suggested it and I gave it a try, even though I wasn't that interested at first. Turns out, I was wrong. I started playing a few days ago, and I've been hooked ever since. The game design is amazing and it's so easy to get into. Plus, it's free! It can be addictive but in a good way. You can pay to win, but they don't push you to make purchases. And the best part? No annoying ads. Definitely worth checking out.

    The game is enjoyable, but the sprites for some of the new super attacks need updating. It's frustrating when a sprite glitches during a scene from the show. A better pity system is necessary, as the coins feel more like a loyalty bonus. And the friend system definitely needs improvements. Overall, it's a good game that just needs some fine-tuning.
