Imagine being a young dragon with wings too small to help you fly. But don't worry; this won't stop you from setting out on your very first exciting journey. The lands are full of winding hills for you to glide along. Coordinate your movements with precision to gain speed and soar into the sky. Be swift though! Your dragon mother is worried about you and is flying out to intercept you and guide you back home.

Playing Basics

Basic Mechanics:

Touch the Screen: Tap the screen to make your dragon dive into the ground.

Swoosh: Timing your tap well will make your dragon hit the downward slope of a hill smoothly. Lift your finger when the dragon is at the bottom of the hill to gain a significant speed boost. This action is called a “swoosh” and is the main element of the game.

Fire Mode: Achieve three consecutive swooshes to activate Fire Mode, which provides a large point modifier. To keep Fire Mode active, continue performing swooshes. A mistake will deactivate Fire Mode, requiring you to perform three swooshes again to reactivate it.

SkyFly:

If you gain enough height, you’ll enter or go above the clouds, known as SkyFly. SkyFlys provide bonus points and contribute to high scores. A good strategy is to maintain Fire Mode and achieve many SkyFlys for a high score.

Levels and Realms:

The game is divided into realms of similar lengths but differing in the number and types of hills. As you progress, the difficulty increases, making it challenging to perform consistent swooshes. The first realm is easier, but as you advance to higher realms, the difficulty becomes more noticeable.

Items:

Diamonds: The in-game currency, which looks like little pink diamonds. Collect Diamonds to purchase additional levels or specialty Vials if you’re playing the free version. Diamonds provide extra points.

Speed Vials: These give a boost of speed when collected. They can help you achieve higher distances but also make timing your swooshes more difficult. Speed Vials do not contribute to points.

Realm Completion:

At the end of each realm is a large downhill slope with exactly thirty Diamonds at the bottom. Your goal is to collect all thirty Diamonds based on your speed and a bit of luck. Your dragon will then be shot high into the air, and the next realm will start to load.

Progression and Challenge:

Successive realms get progressively harder. The challenge increases as you advance, but don’t be discouraged. Your dragon’s mother will gradually get faster and eventually catch up, but you’ll improve with practice. The goal is to go as far as possible.

Strategies for Mastering Dragon, Fly!

Here are detailed strategies to help you achieve a high score and improve your skills in Dragon, Fly!:

Mastering Swooshes:

Core Element: Swooshing is crucial for maintaining momentum and maximizing your score. Aim to perform perfect swooshes to keep your momentum and stay in Fire Mode as long as possible.

Timing: Dive earlier rather than later to avoid landing on a rising hill, which can ruin your swoosh. Consistent swooshes will help you maintain your streak and score higher.

Fire Mode: Achieving Fire Mode before leaving a realm is advantageous. It provides a bonus of approximately 10 seconds of free Fire Mode points. Maintain Fire Mode on the first impact of the new realm for an immediate advantage.

Diving Technique:

Personal Method: Instead of holding the screen continuously, try multiple quick taps while your dragon is in the air and hold during the dive. This technique offers finer control and improves timing accuracy.

Diamond Collection:

Collecting Diamonds: Gather Diamonds whenever possible, especially during swooshes, as they provide free points. However, don’t sacrifice swooshes just to collect Diamonds if you’re aiming for a high score.

Planning for Diamonds: You can plan your swooshes around the location of Diamonds. Familiarize yourself with the daily realm layouts to optimize Diamond collection. Keep in mind that the locations change daily, so adjust your strategy accordingly.

Handling Speed Vials:

Caution with Speed Vials: Speed Vials can be tricky as they increase speed and make timing harder. Avoid them if they disrupt your swoosh accuracy. However, they can be beneficial if you lose speed on a poorly executed hill, providing a boost when needed.

Improvement with Speed Vials: As you get better at the game, you can learn to use Speed Vials effectively, especially for challenging goals like reaching higher realms.

Using Potions:

Shop Potions: Purchasing potions from the shop can enhance your performance. Invest in these potions using Diamonds collected from the game. They can significantly boost your score and help you reach higher realms.
