Pros:

- Good amount of vocabulary, also for more advanced learners.

- The vocabulary is grouped nicely, albeit there are some weird vocabulary choices in some of the groups (like unrelated verbs)

- The interface is very pleasing.

- Can be very addicting.

- The idea itself is good.

- Some of the exercises are good, like the ones where you have to connect letters to make a word.

- The themes that use sentences instead of single vocabulary can be useful if you use them right.

- Very nice amount of languages offered, including the more less-taught ones (like Icelandic)..

Cons:

- you have to get a premium to study more than one language as of December 2021.

- The premium is very expensive.

- The 5 minute playing time per 10 hours limit (though you can extend this sometimes)

- Some of the picture choices are very off or vague. I remember that the picture that represents "family" was very weird, while the picture of "parents" was a picture that would have fit more nicely in the place of "family".

- Ads, while not too distracting (in a way they do not pop up in the middle of the sessions and that most of them are from the app itself and not outside ads), can get annoying, especially the ones that try to get you buy premium, but this is to be expected of a free-to-play app.

- Some of the audio is off, which can be distracting to some (meaning that it can be few seconds late than the other ones spoken by different voices). I recall there was this one voice in Spanish groups that read the words two seconds later than the other voices did, and this was distracting to me.

- This is inevitable considering the amount of words, but some of them seem like they have been just Google translated to the languages without thinking about the context of the language itself.

- No genders in some languages except in the new themes (See: Swedish).

TechCrunch praised Drops for its visually appealing games and vocabulary-focused approach which aims to break down barriers to language learning, offering users access to the social and economic advantages multilingualism can bring.

I've been learning Portuguese for a while now using various apps, but this one is the one I stick with. The five-minute lessons help me establish a routine. The free version was helpful to start, and I appreciated that there's no premium content, just a time limit to try it out. Since upgrading to premium, I've been improving quickly. In just a few months, they've added lots of useful features and keep fixing any mistakes.

There were a couple of technical problems with the app that bothered me. Recently, it began to crash within five minutes or even less after starting up. I contacted customer support and was told that they were aware of the issue. So, I adjusted my rating accordingly. Also, after the initial 5 minutes, there would be extra time added just for showing two more ads, which you couldn't skip. The only choice was to click 'OK.' It became frustrating because I ended up spending more time skipping ads than actually learning. However, on the bright side, I managed to pick up some Spanish and stuck with it. Despite these issues, I continue to use Duolingo as well.

This app is good for learning new words, but it doesn't cover things like grammar or how to put sentences together. I use Drops and Duolingo together to learn more effectively. Also, I had a problem with the app forgetting my premium membership, but the customer support quickly resolved it by giving me a new code. Their service was excellent!

The free version is a helpful learning tool, and 5 minutes a day is a reasonable time commitment. Removing the option for pictures/graphics would be beneficial as they can sometimes cause confusion. Matching Chinese characters with English definitions directly would improve the learning experience. There is an error in the lesson about Chinese pronouns: using "ta" for 他 (he), 她 (she), and 它 (it) could lead to misunderstandings.

So, basically, the app has tons of information and it presents complex phrases quickly. Even if you understand the sentence, it rushes to the next one before you can fully process it. It's hard to unsubscribe from the app too.

Learning new vocabulary has been beneficial for me, which I enjoy. However, there are moments when it can be a bit confusing. For example, "snow" and "it snows" have nearly identical pictures, but you have to choose between them when presented with one or the other. Additionally, the audio frequently does not correspond accurately to the written words. Initially, it would omit the article, leaving out "el" or "la" before the noun. Now, it sometimes uses a different article than what is written; for instance, "el nido" in writing becomes "un nido" in spoken form.

The app used to be really good for learning Japanese, but it's not as good anymore because of many obvious quality control problems. Whenever they release new vocabulary, there is no audio for it even after many updates. The old words still sound fine, though. The problem lies with the things added in the last few years. Another issue is that reaching out to the company is quite hard and they don't seem to pay attention to feedback about their content.
