"Elona Mobile" Review: A chaotic but addictive free adventure

Recently, I got into a very interesting mobile RPG game - "Elona Mobile". This is a roguelike open world game produced by LTGames Global. When I first read the introduction, it revealed that "the game is complex and may make people lose their way", but at the same time emphasized that it will not let you indulge in idle and automatic combat, but let you indulge in the process of exploration and growth.

I was attracted by this sentence at the time. After all, mobile games nowadays are often "idle and idle", and you don't have to use your brain at all. And Elona is obviously not this type.

Character creation experience: You can match professions and races at will, and you can play it however you want

When I first created a character, I was shocked: gender can be selected, there are more than a dozen professions, such as warriors, farmers, pianists (?), and there are professions like "War Demon" that are both magic and war. The name is very second-rate but very curious.

What's even more outrageous is that it also has a race system: mutants, goblins, lizardmen... Each race has different initial attributes, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. I finally chose the combination of "mutant warrior". The system directly prompted me that "this is a weak combination", but I still chose it - mainly because I can grow more parts, and I feel that it will be more plastic in the later stage.

Game start: a pirate storm at the beginning of the plot

The first scene of the game is being attacked by pirates, and the plot unfolds quite quickly. After that, I entered the main plot, and slowly got familiar with the game mechanism while talking and fighting. I have to say that the degree of freedom of the game is really high, but it is also a bit messy.

Daily rewards are very rich, and a lot of things are given at the beginning

Sign-in rewards, appointment gift packages in emails, and various lottery props, including diamonds, skill medicines, and scrolls. These props are very helpful in the early stage, such as recovery potions, summoning scrolls, and props that increase attributes.

Early experience: chaotic but interesting

To be honest, this game is really a bit confusing when I first started playing. There is no detailed tutorial for beginners, and a bunch of systems are thrown at you at once: blessed food, cursed food, equipment enhancement, item identification, scrolls and magic...

I ate a colored cake, but I was poisoned and my attributes were reduced; I ate a piece of meat, and the prompt said "I feel a mysterious force injected into my body", and then nothing happened (laughs). This reminds me of the "trial and error fun" of playing old-fashioned RPGs.

Combat system: non-automatic, turn-based, position is very important

The battle is similar to the turn-based system, and each move or attack is a turn. Skill release, direction, and position all need to be considered. Especially for melee characters, if you stand in the wrong position, you may not be able to hit anyone at all; remote characters have to worry about trajectory and obstacles.

In addition, there are "super skills" that consume special points to release, similar to big moves. The overall skill system is hardcore and quite challenging to play.

The system is extremely rich: locksmithing, identification, pets, reputation, blessing system, etc.

To be honest, there are too many systems in "Elona Mobile", such as blessing status, reputation value, load system, NPC faith, prayer, wishing... There is even chain craftsmanship. You have to open the treasure chest yourself, and you may explode if you fail. It's too much like an old PC RPG.

I also encountered a plot branch in a town, and you have to decide whether to enter a specific map based on your reputation-if you don't have enough reputation, they won't let you in.

Teammate selection: I chose a girl (of course)

When the plot progressed to the point where I could choose a companion, I had four choices: a cat, a dog, a bear, and a girl with an axe. Without hesitation, I chose the girl (laughing). She was well equipped, with a heavy armor and a big axe, and she looked very resistant and capable.

Summary: The entry threshold is high, but the content is really good

Although I was a little dizzy at the beginning, after playing for a long time, I can understand why some people are addicted to this game. The system is extremely rich, with high degree of freedom, varied gameplay, and details and surprises everywhere.

If you like the feeling of exploration, trial and error, and gradual strengthening in traditional RPGs, and are not afraid of the learning cost brought by complex systems, then you must try "Elona Mobile".

This game truly shines. From the early access days, I felt a strong connection to it. Lately, a frustrating issue popped up while playing. I encounter characters with special markers on the map, those red exclamation points. I approach them, ready for a quest, but nothing happens. No conversation box appears, and it's happening with several characters. It's puzzling. I appreciate the hard work that went into this game, and I want to support the team’s efforts.

So much is happening, and the story really grabs attention. The idea of considering race could enhance the experience. When I chose Elea, I expected to start in their habitat or maybe end up imprisoned because of the tensions with the kingdom. That would add layers to the plot. Plus, the gender references can be frustrating. I selected female, but they still called me 'he.' It pulls me out of the experience. Overall, small tweaks could make a big difference!

I can't get enough of this game! It's got me hooked like nothing else has in ages, not even since my Roblox days. Eating? That's a bit tricky for me. I can only munch on one thing at a time, which gets a little annoying. Still, it doesn't take away from the fun. Totally worth a solid five stars! If I could fine-tune that rating, I'd go for 4.9 out of 5.
