ESPN App Guide

1. Using the playlist builder

Click Try App to create a new playlist with the app.

ESPN

A window will appear where you can customize the app’s settings.

ESPN

First select the ESPN topic you want.

Next, you can set the duration for your app (how long it will run inside of a playlist before the next piece of content.)

Now you can decide how much of a delay to have between headlines by setting the seconds in Next Post Delay.

Next, you can change the look of your app by setting the headline, summary, and background color.

Next, set the duration for the app (this determines how long your app will display.)

Once you’re all done, click Save Changes in the bottom right corner!

To continue on to publishing instructions from here, you can skip to section 3: build out your playlist.

2. Using the Design Studio

Click Studio in the top navigation bar. Then click Create in Studio to start a new design.

ESPN

This will open up a blank canvas for you to start adding content to! To add the ESPN app, either scroll to find it in the Apps menu to the right or search for it to find it faster.

ESPN

Drag and drop the app onto your canvas from the menu. Or simply click on it and it will be added to your current slide.

ESPN

You can drag the sizing handles of the app around to change the size. Make it smaller so you can split your screen and add other content, or make it full screen - that’s totally up to you!

Customizing the ESPN app settings works the same way in the design studio as it does in the playlist builder - all settings will be found in the panel to the left. To bring up the panel, click on the app from the canvas.

You can continue to customize your content however you wish in the studio! Add media from one of our integrations, add stickers, use frames to create unique media stylings. Add slides with extra or duplicate content. You can even split your screen into zones!

In my example, I've customized Fugo's Welcome Dashboard template to include the ESPN app in the bottom right corner of my slide.

ESPN

When you’re satisfied with how your content looks, click Save and Close. This will close out the design studio. To publish this content, you’ll need to add it to a playlist, which we’ll cover in the next section.

3. Build out your playlist

Note: If you want to add content you created in the studio to a playlist. You’ll need to navigate to the Playlists page by clicking Playlists in the top navigation bar and Create Playlist to start a new playlist.

Give your playlist a name (we suggest making it something relevant to distinguish it from other playlists later on down the road.)

Click Select Screens to choose where to publish your playlist.

ESPN

ESPN

You can also add more content to your playlist by clicking Add More Content and choosing other apps, uploading media, or from the content that you created in the studio.

I want to add the content I created in section 2 above, so I'm going to find it by clicking Studio Content and searching for it in my content library.

ESPN

When you've selected all the content items you want to add to this playlist, click Add Items in the bottom right corner.

Finally, you can change the schedule of your content by setting the start and end date and clicking Week Schedule to edit the days and times your content will run.

ESPN

Once you’re all done setting up the playlist, click Publish in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen to publish or schedule your content.

If you don’t want to publish just yet, you can click Finish Later and come back to your playlist at any time.

So, the app shows me these pop-up notifications of things I like, which is pretty handy. But when I tap on them, it just keeps loading forever, and if I give up and go back, the notification disappears. It would be great if this could be fixed! Also, it would save me a lot of trouble if they bring back the refresh option within the gamecast. Right now, I have to go back to the main page, scroll up, pull down to refresh, then scroll all the way back down to get back to the game I was following - quite a hassle.

It's awesome for staying updated on my favorite teams, and Power Play is just ideal for catching most NHL games. However, I've been having trouble with watching any non-live videos like highlights within the app for months now. Every time I try, an ad plays smoothly but then the video either gets stuck on a black screen with controls or the first frame without playing. This problem keeps happening regardless of whether I'm connected to different Wi-Fi networks or using data. It's really annoying when it's a free service, but it's totally unacceptable if you're paying for a subscription.

Hey, so basically, the app on your TV is quite different from the one on your phone. Unfortunately, you can't watch game highlights on the TV app or even stream it to your TV. The TV app's capabilities are pretty limited. It does offer live NHL games, which is cool, but once the games are over, you'll need to switch to the phone app to watch the highlight reels on a tiny 6-inch screen. Finding a way to do this on the TV app seems as hard as finding hidden pirate treasure. To be honest, it's not really worth the money if you're looking beyond just live games. Quite disappointing, isn't it? (Imagine me sending you a frowny face emoji right now)
