Fishdom Solitaire Beginner’s Guide: Tips, Tricks & Strategies to Complete More Levels
Observe the Game Field Layout
As we mentioned earlier, the basic objective of every solitaire level is to match all face-up cards on the playing field with the open deck card to eliminate them. Sounds pretty easy, right?
The challenge here, however, is that every level features a different layout of the game field cards. Some are rather straightforward where you can clearly see how many face-down cards there are in the field and which cards you should aim to match so those underneath them can be opened. Below is a good example of a simple, no-frills game field:
But as with every game, the difficulty level ramps up a bit every time you go up a level. Eventually, you will be met with more complex game field layouts, like the one in the image below:
That said, it’s always a great idea to observe the game field layout first before matching any open deck cards with face-up cards. This quick observation should give you a general idea of how you should aim to clear the game field, thus helping in crucial decision making.
For instance, in the image above, it’s easy to see that the only match you can make is between the 10♣️ and 9♦️. The chances of getting an 8 is slim so the next best move may likely be to draw from the deck. If, by a stroke of good luck, you get an Ace, should you match it with the K♣️ or the 2♦️?
If we’re going to base it on the layout of the game field, here are two possible scenarios:
Match with K♣️: You open up two cards on the game field and bring yourself closer to opening up one or both of the Extra Cards (green and gold design) hidden underneath.
Match with 2♦️: You get to perform a 5-Streak (more on Streaks later) and open up 5 cards, plus get one extra card added on a random position on the deck for performing the Streak.
Now, both decisions can be favorable and have their own merits. Seeing as the deck cards are limited, the best match may be the second choice since it opens up five cards on the field and adds one card to your deck.
However, it’s important to also note that opening the Extra Cards underneath the K♣️card will add three to five cards to your deck, giving you a higher chance of continuing the level since you have more cards to draw from. It boils down to a matter of priority and luck, but it all starts by observing the layout of the cards on the field so you can decide on the best potential match.
Go for Longer Streaks and Open Up More Cards
We’ve mentioned Streaks in the previous section but what is it exactly?
You perform Streaks when you manage to continuously match cards in succession without drawing from the deck. If you look at the upper right corner of the screen, you will see a line of blue dots followed by a card. This is called the Streak Counter.
The number of blue dots usually starts at five, which means you will have to continuously match five cards to get the type of card displayed at the end of the Streak Counter. The type of card you can get may vary from one deck card to two deck cards to a Wild card, and so on.
As you can see from the image above, if you collect cards of the same color, you can double your reward. You don’t necessarily have to collect the cards in sequential order all the time to get rewards. You simply have to continuously match cards to fill up the dots in the Streak Counter.
Below is an example of a game field where you can easily make a 5-Streak:
If you’ll notice, the first dot of the Streak counter has already been filled by a black card. Thus, all you need to do to get a Wild card added to your deck is to make five more matches. You can do this by matching the K♣️ open deck card with these face-up cards in order:
K♣️ = A → 2 → 3 → 2 → 3
If you get lucky and manage to open up a 4, you can still continue your streak by matching that with the 5♣️. Upon matching the A → 2 → 3 → 2 → 3 Streak, you also get to open four cards on the field. The card underneath the A♦️ cannot be opened unless you’re able to match the 5♣️.
Now that you know what a Streak is, aim to make matches that will allow you to perform the longest Streaks. It’s often the case that the longer the Streaks you make, the more cards on the field can also be opened. Let’s take the image below for example:
Since the open deck card is a 9♦️, you can match it with either the 8♠️ or the 10♣️. Let’s take a look at how long the Streaks will be and how many cards will be opened if you choose either matches:
Match with 8♠️: 8 → 7 → 6 → 5 → 4 or 6 (5-Streak, four cards open)
Match with 10♣️: 10→ J (2-Streak, two cards open)
Clearly, the first match gives you a bigger advantage, not to mention it will earn you an extra deck card after a 5-Streak.
Similarly, aiming to match cards that can lead to the longest Streaks can easily clear the game field of face-up cards. Let’s take the image below for example:
Here, you can actually make a 9-Streak, eliminating more than half of the cards on the game field. Here’s how the match can go with a 10♦️ open deck card:
10♦️ = 9 → 8 → 7 → 6 → 7 → 6 → 5 → 4 → 3♦️
As you can see, we’ve specified 3♦️ at the end of the Streak as opposed to 3♥️ as matching with the 3♦️ will open up the two remaining face-down cards on the field. With all these cards eliminated from the field, you’ll be left with the Q♣️, A♦️, 3♥️, and the two face-down cards. With the last five cards all opened, you may just be lucky enough to draw something from the seven deck cards left.
Overall, making Streaks doubles your chances of winning: you get to earn rewards from making continuous Streaks while helping open up cards on the playing field. With more cards whose values you can see, the easier it would be to prioritize which cards should be matched next to win the level.
Get Those Special Cards First
So far, we’ve mostly discussed the regular cards that appear on the field. Of course, Fishdom Solitaire won’t be a fun and challenging game if there aren’t any special cards that make their appearance. Each special card you will encounter has a condition or effect that can either make or break your success in a level.
There are certainly various special cards that will appear as you progress, but since this is a beginner’s guide, we’re going to tackle just three special cards. You’ll come across these special cards from time to time and you’ll have to be creative, resourceful, and maybe just a tad lucky when dealing with them.
Lock and Key Cards
Lock and Key cards go hand in hand. You cannot match a Lock card with anything else other than a Key card. This means that if you encounter a Lock card on the field, you’re going to have to find its corresponding Key card hidden underneath the face-down field cards.
