Beginner's guide

How to add data in Google Sheets

When you create a new spreadsheet, you can immediately begin typing, and your data will automatically appear in the top-left cell. If you want to enter data somewhere else, click another cell and type away. A blue border will appear around the cell you're typing in to make it easier to identify which cell you're working with.

Google Sheets

To make it easier to filter or manipulate data later on, each cell should contain only one value—for example, 100 or Mango.

When you finish entering data into a cell, you can do one of four things:

Press Enter or return to save the data and move to the beginning of the next row.

Press Tab to save the data and move one cell to the right in the same row.

Use your arrow keys (up, down, left, and right) to move one cell in that direction.

Click any cell to jump directly to it.

If you don't want to type in everything manually, you can also import data into Google Sheets en masse using a few different methods:

Copy and paste a list of text or numbers into your spreadsheet.

Copy and paste an HTML table from a website.

Import an existing spreadsheet. If you're importing data from another Google Sheet, you can also use the IMPORTRANGE function to automatically pull in that data and keep things consistent.

Use the fill handle to automatically populate neighboring cells with data.

The way they have set it up for smartphone users is really amazing. I had a hard time using Excel on my phone because it lacks these features. The integration between Excel and OneDrive is also not very good. It takes a long time to load the spreadsheet and the syncing doesn't work well across different devices. Since I was already using Google Drive, I discovered that Google Sheets is a much lighter and more user-friendly option for smartphones within the Google ecosystem. Kudos to them! 🙂👌

Ugh, so annoying! I'm a fan of Google software, it's usually smooth sailing and super user-friendly. But, you know what? Google sheets on mobile drives me nuts sometimes. There's this major glitch that if you're editing a textbox and accidentally scroll down, poof - all your text disappears into the abyss. No way to get it back! Can you believe it? I was writing a paragraph for the seventh time and it happened again. Totally frustrating! Come on, Google, fix this issue ASAP and I'll gladly update my review.

I just love this app from Google, it has seriously been a game-changer for me. I am really bad at managing money and saving, but with this app, I can easily track my expenses and budget. It helps me stay on top of things. Plus, it is super handy for organizing household chores, medical appointments, important dates, and all sorts of documents. It's definitely a lifesaver!

So, I hadn't touched this app for a few years, but the other day I thought, "Let's see what's new." And guess what? Sheets totally exceeded my expectations! It's much better than the Excel mobile apps. I might even transfer most of my Excel spreadsheets to Sheets. The user interface is nice, it works really well, and it doesn't have that annoying lag like its competitor. Hats off to Google for this one! Now, if they could just make a Sheets app for Windows, I might just switch over from Microsoft's Office Suite. Good job, Google!

It's like, this program does help you finish your work, but man, it can be a real hassle and it's missing some features that I consider super basic by now. Like, updating formula references is a pain - it's way easier to just type them in again by hand. Plus, you can't even refresh formulas on demand. The sheet only updates either on its own schedule or when you make changes. So yeah, alright, it's free which is cool, but it's definitely not amazing and there's still a lot of room for improvement.

Oh boy, it seems like there's a pretty annoying problem going on. So, when you type in large strings into the formula, your keyboard starts acting up by holding onto data and then randomly typing out that data, causing everything to slow down and your cursor to go all over the place. And what's worse is that this issue doesn't just go away once you leave the app - you have to actually restart your phone to get rid of it. Definitely not something you'd expect from a Google app. It's so bad that you're even thinking about giving it a 1-star review until they fix this huge bug.

This app for creating spreadsheets is pretty great overall, but it does have a couple of notable issues. Every now and then, I'll suddenly lose access to my own sheets, and the app switches me to view mode as if someone else had shared them with me. The only fix I've discovered is to duplicate the sheet and delete the original. Another major problem is that almost half the time, trying to add an image causes the app to crash. It's frustrating when I'm adding multiple images and have to deal with a crash nearly every time. Despite these setbacks, I must say that this app is fantastic.
