GOV.UK ID Check is a secure method to verify your identity when logging in to a government service with GOV.UK One Login. It functions by comparing your face to your photo ID.

Before you begin, ensure you have any of the following types of valid photo IDs:

- UK photocard driving licence

- UK passport

- Non-UK passport with a biometric chip

- UK biometric residence permit (BRP)

- UK biometric residence card (BRC)

- UK Frontier Worker permit (FWP)

Additionally, you will need:

- a well-lit area for taking a high-quality photograph

- an Android phone running on Android version 10 or higher

Here's how it works based on your type of photo ID:

- If you have a driving licence, you will:

- Take a photo of your driving licence

- Scan your face using your phone

- If you have a passport, BRP, BRC, or FWP, you will:

- Take a photo of your photo ID

- Scan the biometric chip in your photo ID using your phone

- Scan your face using your phone

After completing the process, the app only assists in confirming your identity. You will be directed back to the government service website you were accessing to view the results of your identity check.

When it comes to privacy and security, rest assured that your personal information will not be stored within the app or on your phone after use. Data is collected securely and deleted once it is no longer required.
