FAQ

Q: Is the Health Connect storage on-device or cloud based?

A: Health Connect provides on-device storage. Our goal is to create a system that puts users fully in control of their data, as well as which apps and services they share it with.

Q: Which mobile devices are able to use the Health Connect app?

A: Only mobile devices with Android 9 (API 28) or higher can use the Health Connect app. These devices must also have Google Play services installed.

Q: Does a Java SDK exist on Jetpack? Will this be added eventually?

A: The Health Connect SDK is only available in Kotlin. We don't have immediate plans to add a Java SDK to the Jetpack library. However, we may eventually support both programming languages depending on developer feedback.

Q: What is the range of historical data Health Connect can read or write?

A: Health Connect allows your app to read records with time or startTime for up to 30 days before your app's first successful permission request. If your app is uninstalled and then re-installed, the date is reset which marks as your new starting date as if you use the app for the first time.

The idea is good, but it doesn't work smoothly right now. I know it's still in beta, but I have my Fitbit and I'm attempting to link it with Google Fit, yet it's not syncing properly. I don't always carry my phone around, that's why I have the Fitbit. However, if the syncing doesn't function well, then it's pointless for Google Fit. Hopefully, the developers can resolve this issue soon!

So, I'm having trouble syncing my Oura ring with Samsung Health. I can't choose Samsung Health to give permissions, and Health Connect isn't working properly. It would be nice if I could manually set apps to access my data. I wish I could add Samsung Health myself, but that's not an option.

This problem is fixed now. Another app had a similar issue, but it's also fixed. So, it seems like it was a Samsung/Android problem all along. There's a new update - no change, it doesn't work with meta. I installed it to import my meta quest data to the Google Fit app. But when I try to connect meta to this, it just shows a bunch of text without any option to agree or enable. Meta and Google don't seem interested in fixing this.

The app made me set a password, pin, or pattern on my device, and I couldn't bypass it. This made me really annoyed, so I uninstalled the app after just one day. I turn my screen on and off many times daily. Entering a password, pin, or pattern each time would drive me crazy.

Finally, there's a native solution for this which is great! I really like the personalization and trust that comes with it being from Google. The app could be easier to use, but it's still in Beta so improvements will likely come. Perhaps it's time to combine Fitbit and Google Fit apps to include this feature for syncing devices outside of Google's ecosystem for more complete health data.
