Why can’t I make payments or transfers to certain cryptocurrency exchanges?

From April 2024, we introduced additional customer protections by declining transactions made to some high-risk cryptocurrency exchanges. 

According to the ACCC, Australians lost over $275 million to investment scams in 2023. Cryptocurrency scams are one of the fastest-growing threats we see impacting customers. Cryptocurrency exchanges may be used by scammers because payments are harder to recover, and they offer fast international and domestic transactions. 

We have made these changes to protect our customers from these types of investment scams, which are becoming increasingly prevalent.
