Community Guidelines

Be Constructive

As an Inkitt community member, it's important to always engage with others with the aim to help them improve.

You should aim to provide actionable advice that the recipient can take to better themselves. As community members, let's be sure to provide the tools to do so. For example, useful feedback could mean:

Advice on how to overcome writer's block

Feedback on how to improve story structure

    Overall character development

Focusing on a specific chapter, paragraph, or even sentence

The bottom line is, make sure the recipient can improve based on your feedback.

Be Professional

As readers or writers, the best way to participate in the community is to approach others professionally.

That means you leave your emotions at the door, and be objective when engaging with other community members, despite the emotional nature of storytelling. If you're on the receiving end, don't take offense if someone doesn't like your work. Being professional also means you, as a community member, are motivated to improve, whether you are a writer hoping to master your craft or a reader looking for great entertainment.

The idea is to acquire knowledge through social interactions.

Be Respectful

We insist that while you are on Inkitt, you respect everyone you engage with.

The internet is a place where people can freely voice their judgement, but it also gives community members the means to disrespect or insult others from their computer screen. You are free to disagree, but we absolutely insist you shouldn't be overly critical, or disrespectful.

Remember to always treat others the way you would want to be treated.

Report Something

Submitting reports on content that is against Inkitt’s guidelines allows everyone on our platform to feel safe.

Whether it be through books, comments, community groups, reviews, wall posts, or anywhere else.

Inkitt does not allow:

    Spam posts

Content offering fraudulent goods, services, schemes, or promotions

    Bullying and harassment

Hate speech, based on race, ethnicity, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, sex, gender, gender identity and serious disease or disability

Intellectual property violations and plagiarism by other Inkitt users

Instructions for use

1. Add pictures to my story

When you access the editor on the web, you'll notice the "add image" button.

Inkitt: Books, Novels, Stories

This button features the same icon used throughout the site, like on the profile page. Look for the familiar image icon to get started.

To add an image:

    1. Click the location within your story where you want the image to appear – for example, between two paragraphs. The image will be inserted at the spot where your cursor is placed.

Inkitt: Books, Novels, Stories

    2. After selecting the "add image" button, a finder popup will appear. This popup serves as a convenient tool to help you locate and add the image you want to include in your story.

    3. Within the finder popup, browse your computer or device to find the desired image you wish to include in your story.

    4. Once you've chosen the image, click on the "open" option within the finder popup. This action will add the image to your story, centered precisely where you had placed your cursor earlier.

2. Set up Title Experiments

Log in to your Inkitt Author Dashboard to get started.

Look for the "Experiments" tab in your Author Dashboard.

In the Experiments tab, you'll find widgets showcasing metadata and analytics for all your tests. You'll also see controls for test status, a filter for test types, and more.

    1. Click on the button to create a new experiment.

Inkitt: Books, Novels, Stories

    2. Select the story you want to conduct the experiment on.

    3. Your original Title will show up automatically as the "Original" and then you can write the new Title as the "Test."

Inkitt: Books, Novels, Stories

Once you've configured your experiment settings, you're ready to launch it and start collecting data!

3. Add an author’s note

To add an Author's Note, simply log in to your Inkitt account and navigate to the story you'd like to add notes to.

For story-level notes that you want people to know before they venture into the world you’ve created, go to the "Work Settings" section and click on "Author's Notes."

Inkitt: Books, Novels, Stories

For chapter-level notes, where you can talk about your thoughts on a chapter once a reader is finished with it, you can add them in the optional section at the top of the chapter editor.

4. Create a Schedule

To schedule chapters, access the "Schedule Manager" button in the story editor. Here's what you'll find in the schedule:

Inkitt: Books, Novels, Stories

Schedule Name: Provide a name for your schedule.

Interval: Specify how often chapters are released (e.g., Weekly, Bi-weekly).

Days of the Week / Day Number: Choose which days the chapters are released or set a specific day number.

Tiers to Release to: Determine which tiers or audience groups will receive the chapter.

Time to Launch: Set the time of day when chapters are published.

Date to Start Launching: Select the date from which your schedule starts.

Number of Chapters to Publish: Indicate the number of chapters to publish per release.

Please note that when you create a schedule, your chapters aren't automatically added to it! You do need to add chapters to your schedule. On unscheduled, unpublished chapters, you'll see the "Add to Schedules" button:

Inkitt: Books, Novels, Stories

Clicking the button normally will let you add just one chapter, but if you want to add all chapters to your schedule, you can use the "Add All Chapters To Schedules" option.

Withdrawing all chapters still unpublishes your story.

Inkitt is amazing! So many free books to read. It's super easy once you log in for the first time. Just pick the books you like and start exploring the worlds created by the authors. Sometimes I face some issues, like when logging in or choosing the book I was reading last, it takes about 5-10 seconds to go to the page where I stopped. But overall, I really adore this app!

I really enjoy using this app and reading the stories on it. I spend hours every day immersed in the content. However, there is one thing that bothers me - the auto text select feature when you're reading a book. It irritates me because even a slight touch can trigger it and you can't simply touch the screen to access the menu bar anymore. Personally, I find this feature unnecessary because I don't use it at all. It would be great if there was an option to disable it for those who feel the same way.

It's such a bummer with the app glitches that keep popping up. It crashes so often! I have to keep reloading, only for it to crash again shortly after. And the scrolling is a pain too. I try to scroll down, but it keeps bouncing me back to the top over and over. But despite all this, I do enjoy most of the stories on there. The glitches usually don't bug me too much, but some days they just seem to happen way more than usual.

The app freezes and it can take forever to add a new book to your library. When reading, the new chapters take ages to download, making it frustrating. It also jumps around too much while you're trying to read. Sometimes, it shuts down completely. There are too many books on the site that haven't been completed or updated in a really long time. Additionally, there are books labeled as completed, but they only have a few chapters and then tell you to go to another site to finish or buy the whole book.

I enjoy using it, but it can be really slow at times. I have to wait for a whole minute just to get a response. Sometimes when I tap something, it seems like the app doesn't even register it. Also, it's quite tricky to exit from a story and go back to the home page. Some of the stories could use some editing because the grammar is really poor. This makes it hard to read and understand what's going on in some cases.

I have to say, the app is really impressive. It's great for sharing and reading stories without any bias, unlike some other platforms. You can also enter your books in contests for more exposure and gain readers faster than on other apps like Wattpad. Plus, you can engage with others by reading their stories, leaving comments, and giving feedback. The only downside is accidentally highlighting text sometimes, but apart from that, I have no negative experiences with the app!

Oh, I've been using this app for a couple of years now. Initially, I rated it five stars but recently had to decrease my rating to just two! It keeps freezing all the time, making it impossible to write anything. And when it's not freezing, it starts acting crazy and adding big gaps between paragraphs which is quite annoying. I'm so fed up with all these issues that I've decided to take a break from using it. I prefer using the mobile app as it's more convenient for me. I also have a computer, and although it's less glitchy than the mobile app, I still find it frustrating to use.

I really like this app because it's free and doesn't have a premium option, unlike Wattpad which I used before. They changed to premium some time ago, and it bothered me. I think it would be great if there was an audio feature where you could select a word or phrase and press 'speak' to hear the correct pronunciation. This method helped me a lot when I was younger. Please, don't make this app premium! I don't want to switch to another similar reading app!
