FAQ

1. What is Kodi?

Kodi is a free open source (GPL) and multi-platform multimedia centre which can centralise all your local, network and internet media into one easily accessible location.

It is designed to be installed on hardware that is directly connected to your AVR or TV preferably via HDMI.

2. How is Kodi different to all the other media players?

Kodi allows you to bring all your media together in one location.

Not only can it play a wide variety of media formats - Video, Audio, Images - Kodi also allows you to create libraries of your content which can be displayed and browsed in an artwork rich environment.

Kodi can handle Movies, TV Shows, Seasons and Episodes, Music & Audiobooks, Music Videos, Live TV and PVR, Pictures & Comic Books.

In addition, Kodi has a vast repository of Add-ons (plugins) that can be installed to extend Kodi's capabilities, either by adding new features to Kodi or accessing content from internet sources such as YouTube, Netflix and many, many more.

3. Can I use Kodi as a Media Server?

Kodi does include a built in UPnP server that can stream Music and Video content from your Kodi library to other devices. It can also act as a UPnP client to receive content from other Servers on your local network.

Apart from the UPnP component, Kodi is not designed as a Server. Each viewing location will have a Kodi instance installed on the hardware attached to the AVR or TV at that location.

During normal use, Kodi accesses local content off your hard disk or from your local network storage via a File sharing protocol such as SMB.

The latest update could be improved. Making the remote layout smaller is not better.

This remote control app works well when it's working, but every other time I use it, it doesn't connect to my Kodi box. I have to clear the app's data in system settings to fix this issue. It's frustrating that I have to go through this process regularly. It seems like usability is consistently poor with both Kodi and this remote app.

The best thing out there is this app, but it had one issue where I couldn't scroll down and stay at the bottom of a long library page. Every time I tried, it would pop back up to the top of the page. I checked the settings but couldn't find a solution. Finally, I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and that fixed the problem. Thank you!

Great! The auto recognition didn't work, but setting it up manually was easy. I just had to input the device name and IP address, and it connected right away. It works perfectly and has lots of great features.

This app is amazing! It lets me control my music player at home and it has integrated MusicIP mix technology. It's really nice, but there are a few things that bother me: 1) When I search for music in my library, play a song, build a mix, switch to the remote control, and then come back to search, the library search resets. It's frustrating. 2) I can't rate the music I'm listening to. I wish I could give songs 1-5 stars and then find them based on their rating. 3) There's no option to display lyrics. Kodi has a Lyric add-on, but it would be better if Kore had this feature. If these three things were added, I would give the app a 5+ star rating. Overall, it's awesome but those little things hold it back from perfection.

I don't see apps like this very often, but this one really impressed me. It's not just a remote control; it has a really useful and attractive interface.

You're welcome. You want a new feature where you can switch between playing videos locally or remotely in the settings, so you don't have to long-press on a video every time you want to play it locally.

I have a Samsung S9 Plus and I'm trying to use Kodi 18 RC4 with the latest version of the Kore app. I can't find anything, and when I try to connect by manually entering the IP address, username, and port number, it doesn't work at all. It's just not working like I expected.

I haven't been fully using this app lately. I just found out that I can do so much more than just use it as a remote. I can see all my movies, set up playlists, and read synopses for both movies and TV shows. It's probably because I recently set up an SQL server. This is incredible!
