From Trash Mob to Raid Boss: A Beginner’s Guide to Legend of Slime Idle RPG War
The Basics of Getting Stronger
Legend of Slime’s core gameplay loop is simple – fight mobs, earn gold and gems, buy stats, get stronger, fight stronger mobs, rinse, and repeat. This section will walk you through the many, many ways to bolster your slime’s strength.
Quick Tips:
You can spend gold to improve your stats. The stats in Legend of Slime are ATK, HP, HP Recovery, attack speed (ASPD), Critical Hit Chance, Critical Hit Damage, Double and Triple Shot, ADV Attack, and Normal Enemy Damage.
In Legend of Slime, the best defense is a good offense. Focus on your offensive stats – ATK (most important), crit chance, crit damage, ASPD, double/triple shot. Only raise HP and HP Recovery as needed.
You can equip items to become stronger. Equipment is mostly acquired from the equipment gacha, though common equipment also drops from regular mobs.
It is very important to keep rolling on Legend of Slime’s gachas as they gain experience each time you roll. The higher the level of a gacha, the better the stuff you get from it.
Equipment can be fused to improve its stats. The rarer a piece of equipment, the better its base stats.
Note that there is an “owned effect” for pieces of gear that ALWAYS applies, even if you haven’t equipped those items!
Skills are much like equipment – they come from the skill gacha, spending/rolling on the gacha improves the rarity of its drops, you can fuse identical skills to make them stronger, and yes, there are Owned Effects for skills.
Skills must be assigned to a skill slot for your slime to use them in battle. You unlock more skill slots as you progress through the game. Don’t forget to toggle automatic skill use!
AOE skills are generally better for mob clearing, while high-impact single-target skills are more suitable for taking out big bosses. Don’t be afraid to switch your skills to suit your combat needs.
Companions are minions that you bring along with you into battle. As with equipment and skills, you get them from a gacha, fusing identical companions bolsters their stats, rarer companions are better, and there’s both an Equipped and Owned bonus for them.
Companions belong to one or more types; these are only important for Relic passives.
Slimes can be leveled up by being fed experience shards.
Each level grants you one skill point which can be spent on the mastery tree. Mastery tree passives apply to every slime in your collection, thus it’s in your best interest to gain as many slimes and level them up to make more progress in the mastery tree.
Slimes grant Owned Effects (again, these always apply) and gain a unique skill at certain levels.
Research is similar to the mastery tree in that it provides passive bonuses to all your slimes. Research requires ore, which you get from the mines.
Relics provide passive augments, such as skill autocasts, on top of their Owned Effects. This is where Companion types come in.
Relics can be upgraded by spending forks. You can also get new Relics by spending forks, which you earn from Village Raid mode.
Traits give you five empty “lines” to fill with random stat boosts. Each line has a letter grade, with F traits providing the least bonus and SSS traits providing the most. Each roll requires you to spend trait points, which you get from the Dwarven King dungeon.
You can lock traits by tapping on the lock icon to the right of their line. This prevents that line from being rerolled. Locking lines increases the cost of rerolling.
You can save and load trait sets, effectively allowing you to preserve a core trait set. Saving and loading costs 100 trait points.
In general, ATK boosts are the best traits to keep. Next are companion ATK boosts and then skill damage. As with stats, the best defense is a good offense.
Trait lines also have synergies. Assemble enough traits of the same set and you’ll trigger a bonus. The most practical synergy set to run is 4 Hydra, 1 Fiend.
Don’t forget to check your collection! Assembling sets of items, companions, and skills sometimes triggers a collection bonus, which grants you yet another layer of passive boosts. Open your collection by tapping the blue book in the upper right of the main screen.
Legend of Slime’s gold drop, ATK, and cooldown reduction blessings become more potent the more you use them. You’ll need to watch an ad (each) to activate these blessings.
You can also activate a double speed blessing. This one can’t be improved in any way, but does make the game faster by causing it to run at 2x speed.
Stats 101
Your slime has several stats, many of which can be upgraded by paying gold.
The lower part of the screen.
ATK is your slime’s attack power. This dictates not only your normal attack damage but also skill damage.
HP is your slime’s hit points. Run out of hit points, and you’ll be kicked out of the stage you’re trying to complete.
HP Recovery determines your HP regeneration, namely how much HP you regenerate per tick. Note that HP does not regenerate in combat!
ASPD is your attack speed, expressed in-game as attacks per second. An ASPD of 1.00 means 1 attack per second, while 1.1 means 1.1 attacks per second. Don’t expect to get too much value out of this without seriously pumping it up; the fact that this stat goes up by 0.01 per upgrade means you’ll need a lot of gold too.
Critical Hit Chance is the percent chance that you’ll score a stronger critical hit. Each level increases critical hit rate by 0.1%.
Critical Hit Damage is the bonus damage multiplier on a critical hit. This starts at 120%, meaning that by default, your crits do 20% more damage. Each level increases this multiplier by 1%.
Double and Triple Shot are unlockable upgrades that allow you to fire more projectiles per attack. These are unlocked by investing in your ASPD (Double Shot), and then investing in your Double Shot level (Triple Shot). The higher the levels of these stats, the higher the chance of firing a double or triple shot.
ADV Attack is a separate multiplier to your ATK stat. Investing in this gives great returns, though you’ll be far in the game before you unlock this stat.
Normal Enemy Damage passively increases your damage against normal (non-boss) mobs.
So Which Stat Should I Raise?
Because of how quickly stat boosts scale in terms of gold cost, you’ll want to spend your gold on the stats that matter most.
These upgrades are expensive for a reason.
Legend of Slime is one of those games where the best defense is a good offense. I would suggest investing in your offensive stats more, particularly ATK and crit chance/damage. Later on, move towards unlocking (and improving) your double and triple shot chances as those are essentially extra critical hits.
Conversely, defensive stats like HP (and to a lesser extent, HP recovery) can take a backseat and should only be upgraded as needed. You technically don’t need HP if you can flatten the boss before it gets to you, yes?
Equipment
Initially, your slime has two equipment slots: one for a weapon, and one for armor, both of which are essentially stat sticks. But oh boy, they are big stat sticks.
Don’t you wish slimes in your standard MMO had this kind of loot table?
Getting more equipment is easy – just keep playing and mobs will sometimes drop gear. A better, faster, and more expensive way of getting equipment is by rolling in the equipment gacha. We’ll talk more about the intricacies of Legend of Slime’s gacha systems in the “Slime Economics” section, but the long and short of it is this – the more you roll in a gacha, the higher its level becomes, and the better its drop table gets. Naturally, the higher an equipment’s rarity, the better its stats.
Do you like numbers? Because I do.
Equipment can also be enhanced to provide better stats. To upgrade equipment, you’ll need to sacrifice duplicates of that specific piece of gear. Each enhancement level improves both the equipped and passive effects of a piece of gear.
Wait, passive?
Believe it or not, even the junk items have a use.
Yup! Just as the game’s core idea is that even a trash mob like a slime can become a god, so too does it provide uses for crappy common items. If you take a closer look at equipment, you’ll notice that it has two stat boosts: an Owned Effect and an Equipped Effect…
Equipped Effects are only active while that piece of gear is equipped. On the other hand, Owned Effects always apply. You read that right. And yes, enhancing a piece of gear does upgrade its Owned Effect. So while it’s always a good choice to equip the rarest and most upgraded weapon and armor you have, don’t neglect upgrading your common stuff, too – every little bit of power helps!
Note that as you level up, you’ll acquire more equipment slots. Whenever you unlock a new slot, don’t forget to slot it with an item; any bonus is better than nothing, after all.
Skills
Skills are powerful abilities that your slime can leverage to turn the tide of battle. Whether it’s summoning allies, throwing money, healing yourself, calling bolts from the sky, or just plain buffing your attack power, there’s a skill for almost any occasion.
Ah, if only learning new skills in real life were so simple.
Skills generally follow the same route as equipment in that:
- Skills are acquired from the skill gacha. The more you roll in the skill gacha, the better the drop table becomes.
- The rarer a skill, the better it is.
- Skills can be enhanced by fusing identical skills.
- Skills have Owned Effects which boost ATK even if they’re not equipped.
Using skills, on the other hand, is a different affair. To use a skill, it must be assigned to one of your skill slots (you unlock more by progressing through stages) which can be done via the skill menu. Your equipped skills will show up in the main menu…
Here.
…where you can tap them to use them. Since Legend of Slime is mostly an AFK game, be sure to tap the auto-use skills button on the leftmost side of the skill panel!
Unlike equipment, skills each have ideal use cases. For example, AOE skills such as Slimy Press are much better for clearing stages and farming gold as you’ll mostly be facing trash mobs, and being able to kill multiple enemies at once makes for more efficient grinding.
Slime…CRUSH
On the other hand, hard-hitting single-target skills like Reap are much better for vaporizing lone, powerful enemies like bosses.
Big, BIG numbers.
As you can freely swap your skills around, don’t be afraid to experiment and equip skills suitable for whatever your current combat needs are.
