About Mahjong

Mahjong Solitaire is a single player tile-matching game that uses a set of real Chinese Mahjong tiles. It is more commonly played on a device like a desktop computer or a smartphone than on a tabletop. The name is derived from the Chinese four-player Mahjong game, although it is played in a completely different way. People that know Mahjong (not to be confused with Mahjong Solitaire) can easily get offended because the game basically uses the same name, but has nothing to do with Mahjong other than the look and feel of the tiles.

The first version of the game was developed in 1981 by the American computer programmer Brodie Lockard, who made a version for the PLATO system. This is one of the reasons why the game became very popular in Western markets, even though Mahjong Solitaire is not very popular in Asia.

The "Turtle Formation", containing 144 tiles, is the most well known game setup for Mahjong Solitaire. However, depending on the game, there are also puzzles with more or less tiles. There should always at least be an even amount of tiles, due to the fact you need to match 2 identical tiles in order to remove them from the board and solve the puzzle. On our website and in the mobile app, you will find many different levels and setups to play.

Mahjong Solitaire Linked to Memory Improvement

Recent research suggests that playing Mahjong Solitaire may have a positive impact on memory improvement. This beloved tile-matching game, often enjoyed as a digital pastime, has shown promising results in enhancing memory functions in individuals of various age groups. While more studies are needed to fully understand the extent of these benefits, early findings indicate that regular Mahjong Solitaire gameplay may be associated with improved memory retention and cognitive abilities, making it an intriguing avenue for those looking to boost their mental acuity through gaming.

HOW TO PLAY

Mahjong Solitaire is a puzzle game where you have to match tiles. You are able to match any “Free” tiles, as long as they are identical–those are the tiles on the edges that have no tiles on both sides. Select them, and match them with other identical free tiles. That way, you can eliminate them from the board.

Win the game by eliminating all the tiles.

Also important to note is that flower / season tiles may appear. Those tiles are not identical, but can still be matched with each other. Those are the flower / season tiles available in the game:

Mahjong Club is a strategy game. It might be good to think accurately before you match tiles. A good strategy is to first match the tiles that are blocking others. That way, you’ll get new opportunities to quickly solve the puzzle.

In case you get stuck, we always offer you the possibility of restarting the puzzle or shuffling the current puzzle so that you can continue your Mahjong journey.

Explore Mahjong Club:

► At random, pairs of tiles appear on the mahjong board, with a maximum of 144 tiles.

► Your task is to locate pairs and form matches.

► Matched pairs will be removed from the mahjong board.

► Completing the level requires removing all tiles from the board.

► Upon completing a level, unlock the next challenge.

► Utilize boosters when facing difficulties in solving a mahjong puzzle.

► For optimal gameplay experience, ensure an online connection. Offline mode is also available!

I really like the auto-zoom feature! It helps me a lot because I have trouble seeing small tiles due to my aging eyes. I wish it would start zooming in sooner, though. I find myself squinting too much and getting wrinkles around my eyes. Big thanks and love to all the programmers, staff, and crew for this amazing feature!

The game has gotten a lot better since I wrote that bad review. Now, I'm playing it much more and I don't feel like I have to spend money. The layout is better now, it's clearer and less cluttered. The tournaments are also really fun!

The app is great! The visuals are top-notch, and I appreciate the option to skip to tougher puzzles and turn off tiles that can't be accessed. There are ads after every round, but they don't make skipping too annoying. Thanks for creating such a thoughtful app!

Changed my rating to 1 star. Now there are ads after every game! Can't exit the ads. Considering uninstalling. It's a good game but the excessive ads are ruining it. One hour later, I'm uninstalling! Can't get rid of the ads. Uninstalling immediately!

The game has too many ads and the gameplay is not very challenging. I would have continued playing if there weren't so many ads popping up after each level. The levels were also too easy, so I finished them quickly. I don't want to buy an ad-free version and you should pay your team yourself, not from my money. Improve the game.

The glitch in the clubs has been fixed. I wish there was a way to report players or delete messages in clubs. Some people come to mine to advertise other clubs and then leave, which is rude.

The game looks good and functions smoothly. However, I couldn't find options to join tournaments or earn Zen. I tried reaching out to support via email but received no reply. My friends suggested clicking on the tournament icon from the main page, but I have never come across one in the month I've been playing. Checking the weekly goals, I noticed 2 for the Zen event and 1 for the tournament, which seem inactive. It would be helpful if these could be clickable like in my Wordle game.

Everything has been going well. I really appreciate the skip levels feature in the game! After playing for a whole week, I can confidently say that this is the most enjoyable Mahjong game I've ever played. The commercial interruptions are minimal, the tile layout adjusts nicely when only a few matches remain, and the graphics are top-notch - very clear and easy to distinguish. The sound effects are pleasing, and the backgrounds are not overpowering. I'm having a great time with this game! In fact, after a year and a half of playing, I ended up uninstalling all my other Mahjong apps.

I really like playing this game, but the butterfly contest is so hard! You need over 350 butterflies just to reach level four and get the final reward. I don't want to spend all my time on level four, so please make it easier to win. Plus, there's not much time left to finish level four.
