How to run an antivirus scan on your Android device

Open the McAfee Security app.

Under SECURITY CENTER, scroll down to find Antivirus Scan and tap on it.

Tap Scan to run the antivirus scan. 

Tap Update permission. This action enables McAfee to access the files on your device and scan them for threats. 

NOTE: If you see Set up permissions instead of Update permission, tap on it. 

Tap Grant permission.

Do one of the following:

Tap ALLOW when prompted to Allow McAfee Security to access photos, media and files on your device?

If you see the screen below, enable the Allow permission toggle. 

After you complete the above steps, the scan begins automatically.

NOTE: Remember that the scan runs automatically every night when your phone is plugged in to a charging source.

    Updates made the app worse. The widget disappeared, cache cleaning and memory optimization features were removed, and my secure VPN won't work on wifi or data connections. Also, I got logged out of my subscription and had to re-enter the code. Even after some time passed, the VPN still won't work on this device.

    So, most customers just want the option to clear cache and scan manually. They don't really want to keep getting educated about stuff they already know from when they first set up the app. I recently updated to the newest version and now I can't open one of my banking apps. It's frustrating. And to top it off, the price has gone up which is disappointing. My family and I have been using McAfee since the mid-90s and I've always liked it, even told others about it. But not anymore!

    Let's make the home screen better. Even when I agree to the upgrades, they're still there. Let's simplify it with just virus scan and memory options on the screen. I really don't like the app now and won't renew. It's time to find something easier.

    Tried everything, but it just won't set up! Bought Macafee security for the third time this year and keeps asking for renewal. Don't want to buy it again in a couple of months! Last time, VPN wouldn't work no matter what I did. Called for help multiple times, but nothing solved the issue. Very frustrating!

    I really like this app. Getting a photo of where something bad is happening is great. I suggest using it for your safety. It's way cheaper than other similar services. The only annoying thing is having to enter my password so many times to unlock the app. I want to keep it secure but don't have time to keep typing it in. Please fix this and you'll have a top-notch security app.

    It's frustrating when I see that it disconnected by itself all the time. Why should I pay $12.95 a month for no protection? I can't even set up Safe Browsing because the VPN part won't let me do anything, it's just greyed out. All I get is a basic WiFi scan and a notification about my email being in suspicious databases. I'm going to cancel it before this month ends, it's really not worth it.

    The app has some good features and looks pretty modern. But it's a bit crowded and needs to be simpler. Stuff like "Check if your data has been breached," "protect more of your devices," and "identity monitoring" should go in a new menu. The most used services like scan and VPN could be in a less busy place. It feels like looking at a desktop website on a phone instead of a mobile-friendly version. Other than that, the design is nice.

    Basically, the same sentiments as others. It's really bad. You know the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? Some of us just want to revert back to mid-November. We've lost the easy option to clean up junk files and close apps. It would have been nice if you had given a heads-up about the update via email. Without that, it seems like some hacker is behind this. Also, there's a typo – 'expiriration' instead of 'expiration' under account details. This mistake pretty much sums it up.
