Mi Remote. Controlling life from the palm of your hand.

How to Use

The Mi Remote app makes it incredibly easy to use your Xiaomi device to control home appliances around you. Here’s how:

Step 1: Open the Mi Remote app on your Xiaomi device featuring an IR blaster. If you are using the stock launcher, the app is located inside the Tools folder. Do make sure that your device is connected to the internet during the setup process since the app will download the database of compatible apps as you move forward.

Step 2:  Tap the Add remote option and select the category of the device that you would like to add.

Step 3: Once you have selected the appropriate category, select the manufacturer and finally the model of the device.

Step 4: You will then be prompted to point the phone towards the device (AC in my case) and press the on-screen button. Keep the button pressed until your device responds as the app will automatically cycle through the various IR codes. As a form of feedback, your phone will vibrate slightly when it sends a command over the IR blaster. Once the device in question responds, make sure to leave the on-screen button.

Step 5: Press Yes under the ‘Does the device respond’ question. You will then again have to point your phone towards the device and press an on-screen button. Release the button once the device responds. Confirm your selection by pressing Yes again.

Step 6: Finally, you can now enter a name for the device and add a shortcut to quickly control it from your home screen. Depending on the remote of the device that you have added, all the options to control it will be displayed on-screen. If not, additional functions will be hidden under the ‘More functions’ option, though, the most common ones will already be available on-screen.

The remote is great and works well with most devices. But the interface is the worst part, as it doesn't let me search for my saved remotes. Resetting the same device remote every time I use the app is annoying. Improve the interface to make it user-friendly, show where the saved remotes are, and don't delete them. I'm also disappointed that Startimes is no longer in the list of set-top box devices – I used it yesterday, and now it's gone.

The app doesn't connect to my Mi TV using my OnePlus phone. Both are on the same network. It's a bad app. They should have said it needs infrared in the app's name. I wasted a whole day on this.

Yeah, the app is awesome! I use it to control all my gadgets like TVs and Aircons. But I didn't rate it 5 stars because my new Hisense sound bar isn't supported. If there's a way to connect it, let me know. Otherwise, if you can add that feature, I'll gladly give it a perfect rating.

In Mi 11x Pro, MI TV 5x 55 and paired with Bluetooth earphone, the audio volume control on TV using Bluetooth should be able to go lower than level 5 on different apps. The sound through Bluetooth is very high on some apps. Mi Remote requires a "keyboard" integration. There is lag when using Mi remote controls, especially during navigation using buttons. Mi remote is not visible on the phone lock screen. Consider looking at Amazon Firetv remote for Android for inspiration as it has a much better interface and user experience.

Mi phones already have IR, WiFi, BT & Mic. Integrate this app with Alexa or Google Assistant and make Mi Phone a Smart Device Remote control hub like Oakter app.
