FAQ

How do I create an Outlook.com account?

To create an Outlook.com account, you can click the "Create free account" button at the top of this site.

I have a Hotmail.com, Live.com, or MSN.com email account. Is that the same as Outlook?

Yes! You can use these accounts across all Outlook apps with the benefits that come with free or paid plans, depending on which you have.

I don't have an Outlook.com account. Can I still use Outlook apps?

Yes! Outlook desktop apps on Windows and Mac and mobile apps on iOS and Android support most third-party accounts including Gmail, Yahoo!, iCloud, and more. You can access multiple personal accounts as well as your work or school accounts all in a single Outlook app. This will help put all your mail and calendars in one place. Toggling between accounts is simple with a few clicks of a button, without leaving the app.

Why do I see ads in my Outlook inbox?

If you have a paid account, you do not receive ads. This includes customers using Outlook with a Microsoft 365 account provided by their company, school, or organization. It also includes those who have a Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, or Family subscription.

If you use a free email service such as Outlook.com, Hotmail, or Gmail without a Microsoft 365 subscription, you'll see ads in your inbox clearly marked with an ad label to distinguish them from other emails. If you prefer not to see ads, you may purchase a Microsoft 365 subscription to remove any advertising served by Microsoft. Experiences for Microsoft 365 for Business and education subscribers may vary by plan.

What do I get for Outlook with a Microsoft 365 subscription?

Customers who have a Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, or Family plan get an ad-free inbox, 100 GB of Outlook mailbox storage, and advanced security features. They also receive data encryption in their mailbox and for the emails they send; automatic protection from suspicious links in emails; scans for viruses and malware; and removal of dangerous attachments.

With a Personal or Family plan, you can additionally enjoy Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook, as well as premium Microsoft Editor functionality and advanced email management features like search folders, quick steps and conditional formatting. Personal and Family plans also offer offline and desktop access to Microsoft 365 apps such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, plus up to 6 TB secure cloud storage (1 TB per person) which covers OneDrive files and photos as well as Outlook email attachments.

I've been using the Outlook app for a long time. Recently, I decided to give the lite version a shot. It's fantastic! Everything feels minimalistic and useful. It works brilliantly with my Outlook, Gmail, and work email accounts. I would love to see an option to delete emails or mark them as read directly from notifications. Other than that, it's perfect!

The Microsoft Outlook full app stands out for its features. The LITE version offers decent performance but lacks style. It works well and saves space. Switching back to Gmail might make sense. Gmail handles multiple accounts seamlessly. It comes pre-installed on phones, so no need for extra downloads to save space. Keep it simple!

I like the application, mostly. I'm using it for my work email in O365. It just won’t notify me about any new mail. I ended up adding my email to another mail app just to get notifications. I still use Outlook lite to respond. It feels so frustrating. Notifications are on everywhere. Other than that, everything else works great. I already sent feedback to the email mentioned in other reviews. I can't find a place to share feedback within the app itself.

The Outlook app on Android became overloaded. It includes a built-in web browser and an unreliable editor that messes with keyboard inputs. Slimming it down seemed necessary. Yet, now it lacks one important feature—contact synchronization via Exchange. Android removed this built-in functionality for no clear reason. People need the full Outlook app just to access their contacts. Space is running low on devices. It's frustrating.

In 2023, Outlook stands out with its innovative capabilities, smoothly integrating with other Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. This synergy boosts productivity and enhances the overall user experience.

The new update has messed everything up. I have to add accounts every time I log in. Notifications only show "new email" without any content. Every login requires entering details again, which defeats the purpose of having the app. The calendar invites do not sync with other calendars and stay stuck in Outlook. Please address these issues. Thanks!

You can add categories to calendar items easily. The main Outlook app doesn't allow this. It's great that Outlook and Gmail accounts are both accessible but remain separate. Having the option to open directly on the calendar would truly enhance the experience.

This app feels much lighter than the original Outlook. I just want emails, not calendars or other features from the original. It works perfectly for that. The interface resembles using Outlook in a mobile web browser. One thing that would be great is the option to receive notifications only for Focused Inbox emails instead of everything.

I downloaded this app hoping it would solve my Outlook issues. At first, I felt relief. I started receiving emails again. It seemed like a win. But soon enough, the app turned out to be just as useless as the original Outlook. No emails coming through. Now I'm stuck going back to Yahoo. Sure, it's not ideal, but at least I can get my emails there. That’s what matters most, right? The whole point is to stay connected.

The app is so close to perfection. It doesn’t import my account photos or avatars. I have three accounts: one for 365 (Enterprise), one personal Outlook, and one personal Gmail. All I see are my initials or the Google logo instead of my avatar. That’s my only complaint. If this feature worked, I would give it five stars. The interface is sleek, simple, and professional. And the calendar? Absolutely perfect! I wish other Microsoft apps on Android and Windows matched this beauty, simplicity, and functionality.
