Getting Started

When you first begin the game, you will...

    Buy the demonic pick scheme first, prior to obtaining any other schemes. Then when you buy up to 10 scheme pieces / day from the Airport , you will *only* get demonic pick schemes pieces. This will let you craft an extremely powerful pick that will carry you through most of the game. Additionally, you can purchase the scheme pieces for gems from the Forge.

    Buy more snails!!!! so many snails.

    Don't be afraid to long-press on items or gear. Often, this will give you a tooltip showing you more information.

The cycle of the game generally goes like this:

    Open/Unlock a resource

    Buy the appropriate animal from the trainer

    Mine the resource until you can unlock the next level/resource

    Sell 'extra' at the Market so you can afford to Train (i.e. buy new) or Upgrade animals to do more work for you while you're away.

Get a quest

    Realize you can complete the quest because you already have the needed material OR realize you're too weak to complete the quest

    Craft whatever you need for the quest (e.g. the items requested, new gear to defeat the boss, etc)

    There is no penalty for death. You get a free retry on monsters as well, though it will revive you back in for 1/2 of your maximum health. Once you die twice, it will respawn/surrender you back to the beginning. Use this to your advantage to push through enemies you might not otherwise.

    Gems are useful but are not as valuable as most other Pay-to-win currencies in games. You tend to get a lot from achievements and quests. Using them to add a little more space to your bag is probably a good idea. They are also used to boost your pets (click the snail icon), and to purchase scheme pieces.

    Most gear progression will go like this: Dagger -> Sword -> Elven Blade + wooden shield. This should get you to the Troll.

    Weapons & Armor that you pick up do not take up backpack space. Yes, it says backpack, but .. its a bit misleading. In fact, in late game, you'll get a quest that lets you dismantle the unused ones for a special stone required to create portals to the final boss. Caveat Emptor, having hundreds of items in your inventory will cause your game to become almost unplayable.

Common Beginner FAQs

1. Do I keep getting resources when I log out? 

Yes, your trained animals will continue to farm for you.

2. What do levels do? 

Levels allow you to unlock additional runeslots (though according to user Loki#XAHZ, they determine how many breadsticks you get at Olive Garden).

3. I'm Out of Quests! Help? 

Odds are you simply need to encounter the NPC that will give you the next quest (e.g. Dragon King).

4. How do I get health back? 

Your health regenerates at approximately 1 every 3 seconds. You can also drink potions.

5. Can I increase my maximum health? 

More health is attained by equipping gear (sword/shield) that grants +HP

6. Can I equip 'nothing' into a slot? 

No. you have to replace an equipped item with another item

7. What do pets do? 

They give backpack space, but are otherwise cosmetic. Open you backpack--slots with a paw print beside them are from your pet.

8. What are gems used for? 

They are used to increase inventory/bag space and to purchase items

Miners Settlement: Idle RPG Beginner’s Guide: Tips, Tricks & Strategies to Rebuild Your Village and Defeat Your Enemies

1. Follow The Quests

Like in every other RPG, Miners Settlement has a quest list. What reason is there behind this, though?

For a long time, in various video games, quest lists have been a mechanism that helped drive the player forward through a story. While many other modern games (especially RPGs) have no such thing and operate on a sandbox kind of level, the games that have quest systems are just as enjoyable especially since they often reward the player, much like in Miners Settlement.

Time to get to work!

Doing quests here will reward you with gems, a premium currency that you need to purchase blueprints (or schemes) to get further in the game. Other than schemes to complete, some quests reward you with Crystal Shards (more on this later), money, or other items that can be of great use to you. Early on, the game has plenty of quests for you to complete.

Unfortunately, there will be a point in the early game when the quests will start to wane. Especially if you are new, you might find yourself lost and/or confused. Without quests to guide you, what must you do now?

Here’s a foolproof way to move ahead in the game.

2. Visit The Stone Cave Often

Mining games have been made popular by Minecraft. Since then, games like Terraria, Portal Knights, Cube World, Trove, Starbound, Block Fortress, and Craft the World have followed; some of which even have growing popularity up to this day. That’s certainly to say that Miners Settlement drew inspiration from Minecraft itself.

As if it weren’t already in the title, the main focus of Miners Settlement is the mine itself, or in this case, the Stone Cave. The Stone Cave would be considered the heart of the village.

Where’s the Crab Rave music when you need it?

Without it, you wouldn’t be able to progress or build new structures, acquire more gear, or become stronger in general. This is why regularly paying a visit to this deep cavern of minerals and riches is quite important. Apart from that, improving the cave as you go will open new opportunities and new quests for you to complete.

The Stone Cave is a layered structure. It has 11 levels with one of them being the surface and another serving as a passage from farming common materials to precious gems. Inhabiting these levels are a variety of animals that also produce materials that will help you in your journey in saving the village (in order):

Snails – Wood

Crabs – Stone

Bats – Coal

Rats – Iron

Cave Snails – Gold

Rabbits – Platinum

Worms – Tanzanite

Chickens – Emerald

Moles – Ruby

Ducks – Jade

Pigs – Insatiable Ore

Buffalos – Insatiable Stone

These gathering spots can be left alone or you can tap these to help your animals mine. Of course, if your fingers get tired, you may set the auto clicker on. There is a caveat here: that’s needing a better pickaxe for better ores. But we will teach you how to unlock those soon.

Improving these pets at the Trainer’s House will increase the yield per material. Increasing the amount of pets increases the speed at which they gather while upgrading their quality increases their yield every time they harvest resources.

However, in the very early game, especially in the first few days you play the game, there are at least three very important animals you need to focus on.

3. Focus On Upgrading Snails, Rats, And Ducks Early On

In any crafting, mine-exploring RPG (well, almost all of them, anyway), there will be a bunch of items that will be the most-used and definitely the most-farmed.

In some iterations of the genre, wood and stone will start out quite important. For example, among Minecraft’s most precious materials is Redstone but as you start out it will be coal, wood, and stone. Here, in Miners Settlement, the most important items you will be needing are wood and iron. Upgrading the Snails and the Rats is how you do it.

Why are rats so expensive? Can’t you just pick them up from the sewers?

The purpose behind wood and iron is being able to craft mostly daggers and swords. Some items you will need in the game will require these basic materials and thus, forging refined wood and refined iron will help you get more equipment and refined gold.

The cost of iron is high but through auto-mining while you do something else (e.g. cooking, cleaning, reading something, eating a meal, watching TV, etc.) you’ll be able to add to your yield of iron ores. Be warned that auto-mining doesn’t run in the background.

Ducks are another important animal to upgrade. To make your Ducks better is to improve your yield of Jade. While Jade is a very precious material that sells at a great price, Jade also has the highest drops for Enhancement Stones. These special stones, while they appear in other mines, are important components of the Portal Scrolls (the use of which we will discuss later).

With each price rising higher and higher with every upgrade, how do you make your money back exactly? The answer here lies in a simple trick taught in the tutorial.

4. Sell Material Selectively

The Old Man brings you to the market and tells you to sell all of one material. Cha-ching! You’ve gotten a fat pouch of coins! But… you’ll have to re-harvest the material. This might look like a good idea at first, but trust us, you’ll be needing the material.

Instead of selling the entire stack that you’ve harvested, tap the “Sell” button above “Sell All” so you can keep some of it. The default number of which these materials are set is at 10% of your current amount of material. If you wish to increase this amount, you may use the slider to bring it higher, although we do recommend you be careful doing this. We don’t want you falling short of material that you need.

The villagers need these, too.

Speaking of material that you need, tying in with the previous item on this list, we strongly discourage you from selling wood and iron. Jade is fine, but wood and iron are two of the most important items you will need very early on.

As we’ve explained earlier, these are integral when it comes to making daggers and swords which are then turned into more powerful weapons later on. As you progress further into the game, your priorities will change when it comes to choosing which materials to sell, but this is all completely up to you.

Going from shop to shop, from the dungeon to the village, and back, and especially when you go through the different levels of the mines can feel a little bit tedious, doesn’t it? Let’s alleviate that feeling of tedium.

5. Reconstruct Portals And Use Them To Your Advantage

In many RPGs, walking or running around is commonplace. Sometimes, characters are given mounts to ease their travel times from point to point. Other times, they’re given Town Portal Scrolls which they can use to immediately warp back to their home base.

Anyway, this cake is good. It’s so delicious and moist.

Town Portal Scrolls are a necessity in every adventurer’s backpack. Instead of wasting time fighting through random encounters, the adventurer can simply just zip past them and arrive in town safely.

In Miners Settlement, the mechanics of a Portal are similar, except instead of being able to use the Portal Scroll randomly, you will have to construct the Portal Arch itself first. After the Portal has been constructed, you are required to use a Portal Scroll to activate it.

Then, you will have to choose which Portal you’d like your newly-opened Portal to connect with. Like in most RPGs, using this Portal will cause both Portals to dissipate and the process of creating a new Portal will have to begin again. To clarify, the Portal Arch does not get destroyed.

See you on the other side!

Making a Portal Scroll is not something to take lightly. The scroll itself requires all colored Enhancement Stones that you get from the Stone Cave. After getting the required amount of Enhancement Stones, you should be able to craft yourself your own Portal Scroll. It’s using this that can get tricky. Sometimes, you’d feel that it is indeed tedious going through the mines or going from town to dungeon and back.

Use the Portal Scroll only when you absolutely need it. For example, you’re trying to beat the times the Dungeon Fortress will spawn minions and you’ve a good haul of loot that you don’t want to reroll (we’ll talk about this soon). This is the perfect time for you to use the Portal Scroll and zip all the way across town to beat the clock. No hassle, all hurry, no worries!

The name Dungeon Fortress does sound intimidating, doesn’t it? That’s because it is. But don’t let its name alone scare you; your fearlessness will give you your just rewards!

6. Fight In The Dungeon

The Dungeon — every villager’s worst nightmare and every adventurer’s treasure trove.

Every RPG has a great Dungeon. These massive, ancient fortresses are home to the undead, goblins, spiders, trolls, orcs, rogue warriors, demons, rats, slimes, bats, and all manner of baddies that are out to protect their hoards of loot from the fearless adventurer. Miners Settlement has a mighty Dungeon Fortress that lurks right across a bridge in the outskirts of the town.

Welcome to the dungeon! We’ve got fun and games!

According to in-game lore, the Dungeon Fortress was once governed by the Dragon King who has then been resigned to the lower parts of the Stone Cave after the great earthquake shook the land. It is now your turn to go forth and stop the Dungeon Fortress from releasing its evil minions onto the village.

What comes from the Dungeon Fortress are items needed for quests as well as items that are needed for equipment crafting and potion crafting. These items don’t come easy, though, as you will have to fight the monsters within to get them. For instance, making Healing Potions (which you will need to take with you into the dungeon lest you’d prefer dying) requires meat from Rats and slime drops from Slimes.

Naturally, you will meet bigger, badder monsters as you go through the Dungeon Fortress’ levels and you’ll encounter even more dangerous Dungeons as you play through the game.

The monsters in the dungeon are finite for a time. What we mean by this is that they spawn in groups of 4 or 5 and then stay dead for a short period. A timer will appear beneath the floor you’ve cleared and it will tell you how much time you have left before the monsters return from the dead. If you remain there after sustaining severe injuries and the monsters spawn, consider yourself a dead person.

Occasionally, you will notice that the monsters drop different kinds of loot. This is indicated by the small item icons beneath the battle screen. If the Rats don’t seem to be dropping meat, it’s time to reroll the dungeon.

7. Reroll Dungeon Monsters For Better Loot

You’ve decided to fight the Goblin Captain! But after looking at what loot he drops, he doesn’t appear to drop… anything. You want to farm for Leather and yet the Goblins aren’t dropping them. Slime drops? The Slimes keep them close. Meat? Yeah, we mentioned that a paragraph ago.

What’s going on? This means that the RNG isn’t giving you what you want. You keep visiting the Dungeon Fortress time and time again only to just wait for the timers to reset. Is there something that you can do to fix this? Yes there is, and that’s to reroll the loot of the Dungeon.

Where’s your leather, goblin?

While not particularly restricted to the Dungeon Fortress itself, rerolling loot is quite useful if you want to get special items in particular. This is especially useful when you have enough strength to defeat the Goblin Captain. If you’re lucky enough after fighting through the hordes of monsters that are before him, he drops a Covered Shield. This shield can help you gain defense enough to take on more monsters than usual and help you stay alive against the more powerful ones.

To reroll the Dungeon, first you have to get into a fight with a monster. While you’re in battle, a red X should appear on the upper-right portion of the screen. Tap this and you will find yourself back in the village immediately.

Doing this will cause all the monsters you’ve slain to respawn and change their loot. A word of warning: retreating to the village does not replenish your health, so if farming for Health Potions is your priority, you’d be better off waiting if the RNG is unkind to you.

Fighting through the first few hordes can get repetitive. To overcome this, it’s time you upgrade your weapons.

8. Forge Better Items As You Play

Equipment upgrades are an essential mechanic in any RPG. While not a progressive growth like leveling up, upgrading certainly helps assure the player that their efforts in overcoming the next boss or completing that one difficult quest.

Miners Settlement has a way of getting you to improve your weapons. You’ll notice this first and foremost if your life decreases much slower than that of the monster you’re fighting. In the beginning, especially, you’ll be presented with two different swords after completing some of the early quests: the Elven Sword and the Sword of the Lost King.

Better gear for deader enemies.

The Elven Sword is important for the Necromancer’s Altar quest and is easier to make. The Sword of the Lost King, while not that hard to create, is more powerful and can be used to farm the Dungeon Fortress as well as proceed to the deeper levels with ease. With the new items you find, you’ll be able to make a better shield, make another Elven Sword for the Necromancer’s Altar quest, and get those pesky Health Potions properly.

Occasionally, you may have to visit the Airport as there are goods that can be given to you for free every couple of hours or so. This is important if you want better gear. The further you’ve progressed into the game, the better the quality of the gear schemes and items you’ll receive.

Check back often so you get these powerful items early. If it’s weapons you really seek, try spending your gems at the Goblin Silo (pictured at the top of this item) at the East side of town, right before crossing the bridge to the Dungeon Fortress.

Aside from receiving weapons and armor schemes, you will also be able to craft better picks. While the picks do have a progression tree like the other items in the game, there is a way you can get the most powerful pickaxe in the game: the Demon Pick.

9. Use Crystal Shards For Trade At The Airport

This is where the Shards come from.

Inns in RPGs are often synonymous with save points. In Miners Settlement, Marf the Innkeeper has other plans for it.

Apart from keeping it in business, she instead ensures that traveling traders have a place to stay. The traders embark on caravans which you load with supplies that they trade with and they leave town for a while. When the timers expire, returning to Marf’s inn will allow you to receive what the traders have been paid with, or at least a cut of what they earned: Crystal Shards.

You’ll need at least 8 of these babies.

These dark-red shards are quite valuable in lands far and wide. In fact, the adventurous sky merchant, Navi, would gladly trade your Crystal Shards for chests containing parts for weapon schemes, pick schemes, and pet schemes.

One scheme in particular stands out greatly from the rest and that is the scheme of the Demon Pick. As of this writing, the Demon Pick is the most powerful pick in the game, allowing you to mine the toughest of materials in the Stone Cave at maximum efficiency.

Let’s see what’s inside, shall we?

To get this, you must first keep sending out caravans to earn your Crystal Shards. After which, spend all these by opening the chests that Navi has ready at the Airport. While they’re only limited to 10 chests a day, you should at least be able to get the Demon Pick within your first few days of playing.

While it’s true that the Blacksmith has pick schemes for sale in his shop, you’d be better off spending for the completion of the Demon Pick if it’s got a few parts left and you can’t wait anymore.

After all is said and done, there is one last very obvious thing we’ve been ignoring up until now.

10. Watch Ads For Lots Of Stuff

And that obvious thing we’ve ignored thus far are the ads!

Ads are everywhere today and it’s a fact that many of us can’t seem to face. They can get annoying, they can be deemed a waste of time, but in many games, mobile games especially, they can be quite beneficial to the player so long as the player overlooks how much time they consume watching them.

Harvest bonuses! Gimme!

While they’re an alternative way for the developers of the game to earn, the player should see ads in a more positive light: a break from the game. Tired of fighting monsters, going back and forth from town to Dungeon Fortress and back? Do you keep mining your Jade for the Enhancement Stones but grumble as you march down the shafts of the Stone Cave? Time to kick back and watch some ads.

Ads can help you claim additional prizes from Navi as well as chests from the Trainer’s House. But more importantly, you’d be better off using ads to increase the yield and speed at which your pets gather. In the lower portion of your screen, you should see the icon of the snail.

Tapping the snail should bring up an interface where you’re given the choice to speed up your pets’ gathering. Each pet will require an ad watch, so unless you’re actively playing the game and mining for these materials, do this only if you’re about to go to bed or put the game down for the day. Don’t be stingy now, give all your pets bonuses.

In conclusion, progressing through Miners Settlement requires lots of patience and dedication. As you start out, the best way to get through is to finish your quests. If your quests have run out, go to the Stone Cave and unlock more floors until you reach the bottom. To maximize your material yield early on, your priorities lie with snails, rats, and ducks.

Upgrading these will require money and selling some of the material you farmed for will be a must; just don’t sell them all in one go because you will need some of them along the way. As you travel across the village, to and from the Dungeon Fortress, or through the Stone Cave, be sure to reconstruct Portal Arches so you can use them to travel through space with ease (just don’t forget the Portal Scrolls).

If you want to get material for equipment, look no further than fighting the monsters in the Dungeon Fortress. Likewise, if you aren’t getting the items you need, reroll the loot by exiting your battles and returning to the village. Be sure to heal up before you go back. If you feel like the Dungeon Fortress, or any Dungeon for that matter, is kicking your butt, be sure to upgrade your gear by crafting them.

You can receive better equipment schemes from the Airport. Lastly, don’t pass up on watching ads. Ads will be able to boost your pets and give you more yield in material as well as other goodies wherever ads may be.

We didn’t write down everything there is to Miners Settlement, only enough for you to get started. The game is chock full of various secrets here and there and believe us, we really wouldn’t wanna spoil the surprise. Get out there, explore, and be the hero your village needs!
