Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Beginners Guide and Tips

Gameplay Overview

When players first start playing Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, it would be normal to be taken aback by all that happens especially the depth of the new game. The game is very unique than most games with the only game comparable coming up to mind being Raid: Shadow Legends. Below, I’ll go through everything you should and shouldn’t do when starting in Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, as well as all the tips and methods that will help you progress through the game more smoother.

Mortal Kombat: Onslaught

Unlike most games with the Mortal Kombat title, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught takes the series to dip its toes in the Gacha RPG genre that has risen to success recently with popular titles such as Genshin Impact and Raid: Shadow Legends. Although in the same genre, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is more alike to Raid: Shadow Legends than Genshin Impact in terms of the pure gameplay aspect.

The immediate goal is to use characters to fight for you and defeat enemies in levels that are successively harder to complete in which you would need to collect more powerful characters, get good gears, and upgrade or level up said characters to be able to win on higher levels to progress into the game.

Introducing the Basics of Mortal Kombat: Onslaught

Like most games, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught also employs roles, classes and affinities or strengths, and weaknesses in most games. The most important of the three is the Three different affinities. The Four classes dictate what each character does, and the Seven Roles determine what each character’s skill actually does for the team.

Affinity: It determines the weakness and strengths of each character. The greatest comparison would be the typings of different Pokemons like Fire, Grass, and Water that are weak and strong against one of the other two types:

Body is weak against Mind

Mind is weak against Spirit

Spirit is weak against Body

Mortal Kombat: Onslaught

Classes: It is basically in what manner a certain character behaves. They are like the marksmen, jungler, core, and such in MOBA games. Knowing the classes of characters would help greatly in knowing where to place them and when they are needed.

Attacker: They are melee damage dealers that are capable of taking out enemies up close while still being able to cover the defenses for their selves.

Tank: They are the cornerstone of the team and would have skills that can taunt enemies into attacking them instead of their squishier teammates.

Support: Support keeps the team alive and may sometimes make teammates stronger with skills aimed at making allies stronger and healthier.

Ranged: These are damage dealers that like to take out enemies from afar. Although they usually have the most DPS potential, they are very squishy when targeted by enemies.

Roles: Lastly Roles are basically the classes but are more specific in how exactly they do the tanking, attacking, supporting, and ranging. There are a total of Seven roles that characters cover and each is a specialty that can complement other roles.

Defender: Usually a tank that helps to defend teammates from enemies

Caster: Support type characters that buff allies to make them stronger

Healer: Healer-type supports tend to heal allies to make sure that they do not die

Warrior: Warriors are usually attacker-class characters that can deal damage and take some

Ranger: Ranged class that deals damage from afar but needs much protecting

Fighter: Fighters are tanks that specialize in dealing damage to enemies

Assassin: Assassins are built to burst squishy enemies that deal more damage

Mortal Kombat: Onslaught

Health/HP: This tells how many hits a character can take. The more health the tankier the hero is. It can be regenerated when getting healed by a healer-type support teammate and when HP turns to zero the said character will be knocked out and cannot participate in the game for the remainder of the level.

Rage/Cast bar/MP: This bar is located underneath the Health bar of a hero during a fight. This fills up by itself but can be disrupted by enemies that can relieve the rage bar of your character. Filling this up will result in the character being able to activate their skills.

Defense Team: The Defense team is basically the team that you will leave behind that player in the same rank range as you in the arena will have to fight with. Leaving characters in here will not mean that you cannot take and play them anywhere else so you can just let your strongest possible team be your defensive team.

Mortal Kombat: Onslaught

Buffing: Buffing is a term that is being done by casting type heroes. What this means is powering up, so when it is said that this character is buffing the attacker-type character of your team this just means that the character is giving power up to the other attacker-type character.

Gacha: To those unfamiliar with the term. Gacha is a popular thing that originated in stores in Japan. Where you will put money or coins just like in a vending machine and then the product you will get is a surprise. Just like in-game where you will pull and then what you would get would be a surprise. It would be a new 5-star character or just a gray-tier item. You will never know unless you pull.

Understanding the Game modes

There is a total of three game modes that players can enjoy that have been added to the game as of now. These include Story Mode, Arena, and Boss Towers. Each gives a different incentive for the players so they can all be played consecutively not unlike many games where the main focus is only one game mode that they will update endlessly and forget the other game modes that exist.

Mortal Kombat: Onslaught

Story Mode: The story mode is basically a linear progression of levels that unveils the story within the Mortal Kombat universe with Scorpion being the lead character for the beginning stages of the game.

Boss Towers: This game mode gives the players drops like armor and other gears. Each boss tower has tiers that deal with how hard the boss fight will be. Unlike story mode, there is a limit in which the players can get rewards in boss towers where there are a maximum of 40 potions to be used and each run takes 10 potions and 1 regenerates every 15 mins.

Arena: Games nowadays cannot be complete until we have a way to compete with other players. In the arena you will need to deal against the defensive team of an enemy of the same rank and winning will grant rank points needed to rank up and reaching certain ranks gives rewards to the players.

Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Beginners Guide: Tips and Tricks

Here are some additional tips from our beginners guide in order to completely dominate enemies in Mortal Kombat: Onslaught:

1. Become a Story Rat

The Story Mode will bring you so many materials that you can go ahead and use in upgrading your team. It will be impossible to win in arena games and especially in the Boss Towers without spending enough time in the story quests to be able to afford upgrades and pulls to enhance the team that you will use in the future against real players.

2. Upgrading your character’s Equipment

The starter character is Scorpion although just a three-star character, he has the capacity to help you through the entirety of the early game as he is capable of dealing high damage to a single target which will greatly help clear pesky bosses that tries to hide behind teammates and healing them indefinitely. Even after upgrading his equipment, you can still use it to upgrade future items of your characters.

3. Focus on building one Champion

In the tutorial stages, you will get a guaranteed 5–star character in your first pull in Mortal Kombat: Onslaught. Knowing this except for Scorpion, you should focus on upgrading this single strong character in your team as chances are this is the character that will accompany you for a very long time before getting more 5-star characters that you may like better. Powering up this character would be the best investment you will have for the mid and end game where lower-tier characters are just unusable.

4. Complete Daily Quests

Daily quests in the early game are the biggest single source of upgrade materials that players can possibly get their hands to without being paid to win. Even if you just log in and collect, it will give you up to 20,000 gold and 7,000 character experience points.

5. Don’t invest heavily in common/uncommon Characters

Just like what is said above common and uncommon characters are basically walking bad investments that newbies usually walk into. As you progress through the game it will be harder and harder to get upgrade materials and in order to progress more easily always be sure that you are only investing said materials into characters that will accompany you for a long time and not be useless against people that use higher tier character in arenas and also even in the story mode when the enemies get much tougher.
