Lyrics Guidelines

‍1. Always listen to the song

This seems obvious but it’s important; before transcribing, editing, or syncing lyrics, make sure to listen to the song in its entirety from a reliable audio source.

2. No copy/paste

Copy and pasting lyrics from other websites or apps is strictly prohibited. You’re fantastic and we want to see your work, not someone else’s! Make sure that you only add lyrics that you yourself have transcribed. This also naturally means that you can only contribute in languages which you speak to a native level.

3. Transcribe all audio content

Transcribe all repeated parts, avoiding the use of multipliers. If an artist sings the same word 5 times, we write it 5 times!

4. Make sure you're up to date on the Romanization Guidelines for your language!

Generally speaking, Romanization should be used for South-Asian Languages, while scripted transcriptions should be used for all others.

All users will have the option to add both Romanized and Scripted transcriptions for all tasks, however, via our translation tool.

1. FloatingLyrics: What is it? How does it work?

FloatingLyrics is a floating widget which pops up as soon as you play a song from your music player of choice, displaying the synced lyrics of the currently playing track.

It’s compatible with your favourite music apps like Spotify, Youtube, Pandora, Apple Music, Soundcloud, Rdio, and Play Music, so you don’t even need to switch players to bring up lyrics!

Move and resize the FloatingLyrics

You can press the pop-up window and drag it to the position you want.

FloatingLyrics can be also resized by touching the bottom of the widget box, where you'll see the small up and down arrows icon.

Tapping it and dragging your finger across the screen, you can reduce or increase the dimensions of the window as you please.

You can also quickly choose your display mode (compact or extended) by tapping the display mode icon in the upper left-hand corner.

Customize the FloatingLyrics

Add some magic to the FloatingLyrics by changing the theme background color in just one tap!

Click the display mode icon in the upper left-hand corner and choose your favorite color.

Minimize the FloatingLyrics

Tapping on the "X" icon once will minimize the FloatingLyrics.

If you drag the chat head down off the screen, a notification giving you the option to ‘Tap to show lyrics’ will appear in your notification center.

Change the Lyrics Visualization

Switch from the compact (one line of lyrics at a time) to the extended (continuous stream) lyrics view by tapping the display mode icon in the upper left-hand corner and setting your preferences!

Access lyrics' translations

Click the translations button in the bottom-left corner and pick the desired language.

Start contributing

Tap the crowd icon to see the latest activities on the lyrics, or start contributing!

2. How do I fetch song info for my music library?

On Android 4.4 there are some technical restrictions. Apps are not allowed to modify files on the SD card and the option "Fetch song info" doesn't work.

Musixmatch is not able to change the song info stored in the file on the SD Card.

You'll need to upgrade to a newer version of Android in order to fix the song info on your SD card.

3. How do I turn off the FloatingLyrics?

To temporarily turn off FloatingLyrics, drag the chat head down to the bottom of your screen.

To permanently turn off FloatingLyrics, you will need to go to settings and disable them.

4. I can't see the tab 'Folder' on my device

Due to some limitations of the latest Android OS version, we’ve permanently removed the tab “Folder” (within the “Music Section” on the Musixmatch app) feature for devices with Android 10 and moving forward. 

Don't worry though, you will still be able to view the lyrics of the songs downloaded on your device
