TSA History

MyTSA

History

On the morning of September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people were killed in a series of coordinated terrorist attacks in New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. The attacks resulted in the creation of the Transportation Security Administration, designed to prevent similar attacks in the future. Driven by a desire to help our nation, tens of thousands of people joined TSA and committed themselves to strengthening our transportation systems while ensuring the freedom of movement for people and commerce.

The Aviation and Transportation Security Act, passed by the 107th Congress and signed on November 19, 2001, established TSA.

Timeline

The historical timeline highlights important historical dates, key milestones, transportation security-related events and the security measures implemented to meet the ever-changing threat. Starting with the events of September 11, 2001 and the inception of the TSA, the timeline is a chronological record of TSA’s commitment to protecting the nation.

TSA Mission Hall: A Virtual Exhibit

Mission Hall: Remembering the Past, Informing the Future is the permanent exhibition at TSA headquarters highlighting the history of TSA. The exhibit tells the story of how the agency was born from the tragedy of the events that occurred on September 11, 2001 and has evolved into the dynamic agency of today. Serving as a tribute to the entire workforce, the installation represents everyone who plays a vital role at TSA. Each piece tells a story sharing how TSA has changed and how real-world events have shaped the way we secure our homeland.

Fully updated as part of the move of headquarters from Arlington, VA to Springfield, VA in 2020, Mission Hall documents the establishment, evolution, technology, and timeline of events critical to the history of TSA. This exhibition space is an introductory, educational, and commemorative place where TSA personnel and visitors can learn about the agency and its responsibilities, as well as experience a solemn memorial and take a moment to remember why TSA was created.

The app got installed just a few days ago. It crashes a lot, especially when switching between the airport feature and the FAQs.

During the holidays, people often travel with food and gifts. Airports have specific rules about what you can bring. Solid food items like fruits, baked goods, and sandwiches usually pass through security without issues. Be cautious with liquids; anything over three ounces goes in checked luggage. Wrapped presents sometimes raise eyebrows at security screenings, so keeping them unwrapped is a good idea. Always check your airline’s guidelines too, as they might have additional restrictions. Happy travels! 😊

This app is super user-friendly. It offers info that’s usually tricky to find on airport websites. I can quickly check if the pre-check lines are open and see how long the wait times are. It dives deeper into what items you can carry on versus what needs to go in checked luggage. Super handy for travelers!

Finding your way around was simple. Checking which items are allowed through TSA made things easier. This is my first time using it, so I'm still figuring out how reliable the wait times are.

This changed everything for us. It saved so much time and was super easy to use. The convenience is off the charts.

The app didn’t meet my expectations. Notifications flooded my phone, and they came at the most inconvenient times. I often received updates about delays after passing through security. Each time I opened the app, it dumped a bunch of ads and irrelevant info rather than focusing on my flight. GPS integration could have helped by recognizing I was already at the airport. Overall, I see no point in keeping this app on my phone.

The app packs all the info I need for trip planning. It’s a treasure trove of details. The search function gives me trouble at times. Scrolling becomes a bit tedious. Still, it gets the job done overall.

This app disappoints. It lacks essential information. TSA Pre is limited to specific gates and times, but the app fails to mention that. I tried using it, and it crashed almost immediately. Frustrating experience.

The app bombards me with notifications. It keeps sending airport information for the one nearby. I’m not flying from that airport, so this info feels pointless and annoying. I attempted to change the airport settings multiple times, but there’s no option for that. I can’t even enter my flight details to receive relevant updates. Frustrating!
