10 Need For Speed Heat tips to know before hitting Palm City
1. Practice your drifting
If you're used to tapping the brakes to throw your car into a slide, you may need to spend some time practicing how to drift in Need For Speed Heat, as the method is slightly different. Steer into a turn followed by a tap then hold of the accelerator and you'll start drifting, which is a great way to corner while still maintaining speed. It looks cool, though remember that if you can steer through the corner at full tilt without drifting then that will maintain more speed. For tighter turns, especially in some of the drifting races and challenges, a tap of the handbrake will be necessary to get enough slide to turn through narrow spaces.
2. Don't worry about hitting obstacles
A lot of racing games will punish you for clipping or full-blown crashing into obstacles, but helpfully in Palm City the lamp posts, telegraph poles, and palm trees all snap like twigs if you hit them. This will cause no damage to your vehicle and only marginally reduce your speed, so as long as you're passing through the checkpoints don't stress about cutting corners during races. Only more solid objects such as sign gantries and bridge supports will stop you in your tracks, and they will reduce your car's health so be wary of them.
3. Unlock fast travel points
The world of Palm City is pretty large, and although there are some fast travel points available early in the game such as your garage and the dealership, there are plenty of other safe houses marked on the map that are tagged with a padlock until you visit them. Take some time to drive around the city to unlock these safe houses, as you'll save a lot more time in the long run by being able to fast travel across Palm City to reach other races and stories.
4. Don't ignore the collectibles
As you explore the city you'll automatically add markers to your map for billboards, street art, and flamingos as you pass near them, but these shouldn't only be of interest to completionists. Street art just gives you new decals for your cars when you collect them, but every billboard and flamingo you smash rewards you with Bank and Rep, meaning it's definitely worth your time hitting any you discover even if you don't plan to complete the sets. Under Progression in the pause menu you can track your Collections to see how you're getting on, as well as seeing clues for where billboards and street art is located.
5. Pick your Racer Challenges
As well Daily Challenges to work on for Bank and Rep rewards, you can also have an active set of Racer Challenges to complete. Unusually, you have to choose between Day or Night Racer Challenges as you can only have one set active at a time, and you can only select or switch them at your garage. Converse to regular progress, Day Racer Challenges earn you Rep while Night Racer Challenges provide Bank, with an extra bonus amount for beating all three challenges. Remember to switch them before you change the time of day to keep the rewards flowing, and at any point you can press left on the d-pad to bring up your current challenges, including Racer Challenges and Daily Challenges.
6. Earn extra Rep by completing Activities at Night
Each time you complete an activity to at least one star rating, such as Speed Traps, Long Jumps, and Drift Zones, you'll receive a bonus of Bank or Rep depending on the time of day you're in. You can use this at Night to earn extra Rep quickly by hitting Speed Traps and Long Jumps as you pass them, so make sure you take full advantage. There's a particularly useful location for this inside the race track just south of your garage, where you can continually loop back and forth between the Speed Trap and Long Jump to accrue Rep without being hassled by cops. Once you've racked up the Rep, you can just hop to your garage to bank it or track down some police to increase your Heat further and boost the multiplier for an even greater reward.
7. Plan your escape route
While taking part in events at Night, take a moment to check your map first for a rough idea of where the nearby garages and safe houses are, as once you're in the heat of a cop chase you don't really have time to start browsing the map. Look out for the markers in the sky above safe houses to help you navigate towards them, though remember that due to road layouts you might not be able to drive directly to them.
8. Know when to call it quits
Earning Heat by confronting the police while driving at Night increases your multiplier for all Rep earned during that Night, as long as you bank it by reaching a safe house. The higher your Heat, the tougher the police response will be, so you need to weigh up how long you stay out for against getting busted and losing all your multiplier as well as some Bank. You can visit gas stations to repair your vehicle if you're getting bashed up by the cops, but you can only do this three times per Night session before they get shut down. Lose the cops then reach a safe house to collect your Rep – you don't have to unlock the safe house before you can use it to end a Night run.
9. Escape from the cops
When the heat is on, you'll need to put distance between yourself and the cops to break their line of sight and start your escape. The police are fast and aggressive, so you'll struggle to evade them on a straight run, and instead you should make lots of turns and double-backs to try and throw them off you. Once you reach the 'Escaping' phase, keep an eye on your minimap for cops and their cones of vision, then either get away from the area or hide out of sight until the chase ends. A great way of losing police that are on your tail is to hit one of the many jump ramps around the city, as these will usually shortcut you to another section of road and the cops won't take the leap, immediately putting distance between you and your pursuers.
10. Invest in Auxiliary Upgrades ASAP
As you level up your reputation, you'll unlock access to new parts that can be applied in your garage to improve your car. As well as the usual engine, chassis, and drivetrain modifications, your vehicle has both active and passive Auxiliary Upgrade slots. Keep an eye on these and invest in upgrades as soon as you can, as they offer all sorts of benefits to combat the cops' abilities, refill your nitrous, or partially repair your car, which can be invaluable when the police have rammed your car down to critical damage.
General tips for picking up cars in special races
Several principles for special races:
1. Arrange time reasonably (do not affect life and work);
2. Pick up cars first (only what you get is real);
3. Spend less (no) gold nuggets (do not waste resources easily);
4. Enjoy the fun of the game (plot).
Special race types: divided into 5-day races (5, 7, 9, 14, 17 levels per day) and 7-day races (5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 14, 16 levels) according to the length of time; divided into ordinary racing, trial field, demon runner, obstacle race, mixed race, etc. according to the form.
1. Start the race. Don't rush to start the new car race of the version. Let others explore the road for 2 days first. For the flashback race, you can get relevant race information on the Need for Speed forum and official account. Registration is based on personal work and rest time. It is recommended to start the race around 12 noon. Use about 21 tickets every day to pick up the car.
2. Make money. I didn't rerun the first two days of the 7-day special race, so I left the level to lose on purpose to earn money. I also left it on the first day of the 5-day race. Points are awarded for following a car (following closely in the wind pressure zone), hovering, brushing shoulders, nitrogen, drifting, driving in the opposite direction, and crashing (crashing NPCs and police cars). The first choice for earning money is a multi-car racing race with a long and wide road; U-turns (laps) are usually not necessary, but they can get a lot of points, ensuring that you don't get stuck in PR in the later stage, and even upgrade parts to a higher level before the end of the game. Typical U-turn maps: port town container, maple channel (forward and reverse), dry straight road (campaign F40 map, forward and reverse).
3. Buy materials. Don't hoard too many points. Buy various upgrade materials in the early stage. Give priority to buying turbines and engine parts, transmission hubs, and finally electronic controls and nitrogen. Buying according to the event statistics is more targeted.
4. Pick up the car. If you start the race on the sixth and seventh days, you should consider your own car-picking goal before arranging tickets. It is recommended to pick up the car 6 to 12 hours in advance to prevent accidents on the last day and waste 7 days of hard work. You can pick up the car with extra tickets to improve the performance of the vehicle. Note that materials cannot increase the star of parts. They will be cleared after picking up the car. The star limit of parts is limited by the star of the vehicle.
A few points to note for special races:
(1) PR limit: The PR limit of the level usually occurs when novices do not have enough points and their performance is not good enough. In the early stage, you should score more points and buy appropriate materials in the store to ensure the performance of the daily competition. If you cannot beat the computer, you can try to improve the PR and compete again.
(2) If you cannot catch up in the pursuit race: keep your mentality, drift slightly throughout the whole process to accumulate nitrogen, spray acceleration on the straight road, and reduce various bumps. Small drift means that you can quickly get out of the drift state in the right direction (personal understanding). This skill must be mastered. It is very useful to accumulate air during racing.
(3) Obstacle course: including police car obstacles (918, NSX race, three collisions with roadblocks will destroy the car, which has nothing to do with the car itself) and containers and roadblocks (M5 race, Centennial race). Pay attention to the position of the roadblocks and do not drift.
(4) Police cars: ordinary ones are just accompanying cars, some will actively cut off or collide with cars (Officer Wolf's P1). No matter which one, be careful to avoid them. Generally, collisions will affect speed, even if some are destroyed after one or two collisions. Usually, it is relatively safe to get rid of the police car, and you can quickly overtake by accumulating gas and spraying.
(5) ESP: pay attention to the track trend, roadblocks, and soy sauce (police) cars, and leave space for avoidance. Change lanes when the lightning-shaped aiming mark turns red. Generally, the success rate of avoidance is higher in the non-drifting state, and of course you can also use drifting to dodge.
(6) Proving Ground, Mixed Sound: Choose one of the four options of shoulder-to-shoulder, nitrogen, drift, and air suspension, and three conditions. Prioritize air suspension, then shoulder rubbing and nitrogen. Drifting can usually satisfy the requirement (it almost becomes a cost reaction after running too much). Don’t forget to drift while running. Shoulder rubbing is usually the most difficult. If you are not sure, don’t drift to rub shoulders. It will be difficult to control the direction and more likely to collide. Try to choose a car on a straight road to complete the shoulder rubbing task. If you often can’t get nitrogen, don’t drift, just run flat to get it.
(7) It is best to prepare 500+ gold bars before each race. If you encounter a level that you cannot pass more than 5 times, you can directly pass it. If you don’t have enough PR, buy tickets to brush materials first. It is not recommended to buy advanced parts in the store. The upgrade materials in the store can be purchased with points. If you find that the materials you need can only be purchased with gold bars, you can use the bug refreshed in the store to change the purchase method.
(8) Familiarize yourself with the special race map route, it is easier to pass the level. Usually run more underground races and several maps in the campaign mode that are prone to mistakes.
How to Design Your Car Like a Pro
1. Choose Your Ride
For this guide, Jvy went to a dealership in Palm City and bought the NISSAN Silvia Spec-R Aero, Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, and Audi R8 V10 Performance Coupe – with the Silvia Spec-R Aero intended for drifting, the Colorado ZR2 for off-road, and the R8 V10 Performance being the supercar to rule the highways.

2. Customize With Purpose
There are many ways to customize your car, both in terms of performance (read more about this in our guide on how to boost yours) and style, and it’s the latter we’re looking at now. Head into the garage, select your car, and choose Stance in the customization menu. For the Silvia Spec-R Aero, Jvy adjusted the suspension to get a low drifting profile.

As for the Colorado ZR2, you might want to keep the height to match its off-road purpose.

There’s no right or wrong looking at other customization options such as tires, side skirts, splitters, and more in the Body category. Mix and match to your liking.

3. Wrap It Up!
Go to Paint & Wrap. Color and finish are important for your design, but don’t worry if you can’t make up your mind from the get-go – you can always change later.
Picking color and finish for the R8 V10 Performance.
Use larger decals to create the base of your design. Use the controls to scale, rotate, and flip until you’re happy with the placement.

Change the brightness, material, and other options to give your wrap some depth.
Use the different options for brightness, material, and more to add depth.
Now, there’s nothing that oozes professionalism more than having sponsors and logos nicely lined up in your design! Some logos can be colored to your liking, and others are ready-made.
To get a cohesive look on the Silvia Spec-R Aero, Jvy aligned the logos and stuck to one main color where applicable, while also using ready-made decals with splashes of the same color. Making one logo larger than the others will also to give the idea of a main sponsor, commonly seen in real-life professional racing.

Don’t forget adding window banners and decals, plus bumper stickers, to finish off your wrap!

There you have it. Following the above steps will almost guarantee a professional look for your next design. Once you’ve got the basics down, you’ll have a solid foundation for further experimentation and taking it to the next level.
How to Get Away from the Cops in
1. Get to Know Palm City
You know how getaway drivers in the movies always seem to know the roads like the back of their hands?
Early in the game, Lucas Rivera – former driver-turned-mechanic with a soft spot for newcomers – encourages you to break out from the habit of always going from point A to B in pursuit for the next race. There’s an open world out there; take your time, roam the streets, enjoy the views, explore!
It’s not a bad idea, because while being a pleasant recreational activity in itself, you’ll also get to know all the twists and turns of Palm City. Maybe you’ll discover your next escape route.
2. Jump, Jump, Jump!
Anyone just getting to know Palm City will soon realize that it’s built for illicit street racing. It’s engraved in its DNA. One shouldn’t be surprised when stumbling upon conveniently placed ramps sprinkled throughout the metropolis. After a late night out, they’re the perfect means for getting rid of cops trying to spoil your haul.
Build up some speed, hit the ramp, and jump! Enjoy the adrenaline rush as the flashing lights are left behind.
3. Zig and Zag
More complex and dense locations, like the container loading area in Port Murphy or other narrow passages such as alleyways, are great areas to lose the cops. Zigzag your way to freedom!
4. In a Pinch? Hit Up Your Local Gas Station
When ill-intentioned law enforcers have dealt out a barrage of heavy blows to your ride, the neon-lights of a nearby gas station is a sight for sore eyes. A quick drive-through will repair your car, giving you a better chance to shake off the unwanted attention. Keep in mind that you’ll only be able to repair your car three times each night, so don’t stretch the chase for too long!
5. Mind Your Heat Level
Your Heat level indicates how badly the PCPD wants to take you down. At the first level, you’ll be chased by a cop who’d honestly rather go for some donuts or is open for a quick bribe to make him go away. But as you keep tearing up the streets at night, the level will rise, bringing more units with better cars, spike strips, and Rhino trucks determined to take you down. Did we mention the helicopters?
When the helicopter hovers above, you’ll need to break its line of sight. Going into a tunnel will do the trick, but there are also buildings around the city providing the needed cover to lay low for a bit. Also, the chopper will eventually need to refuel. Seize these opportunities to shake them off.
Should you call it a night and head back to the garage at the lower levels? Or, do you have the skill and ride to push it further and risk it all? Those questions bring us to the next point.
6. Earn Bank and Upgrade Your Car
It might seem obvious, but it’s worth pointing out: the better your car is, the more options you’ll have to get away. With a ride pushing above 200 MPH on the highways, you can simply outrun your pursuers with pure speed. If you want to learn more on how to improve your ride, read our tips and tricks on car performance.
There are also specific upgrades to assist in dealing with the cops. Passive auxiliaries include radar disruptors making it harder for the police to find you, re-inflatable tires, nitrous upgrades, and more. Active auxiliaries such as the kill switch jammer, nitrous refills, and repair kits are helpful tools, too.
