Receiving Fees

Anyone who has installed equipment capable of receiving satellite broadcasts is required to pay a fee for the Satellite Contract. Viewers who are only able to receive terrestrial broadcasts are required to pay for the Terrestrial Contract.

- Viewers can choose their payment cycle: every two months, every six months, or every year

NHK will continue to pursue an equitable sharing of the burden of receiving fees and promote viewers’ understanding of the receiving fee system.

    The content in the app is good, but when you try to scroll with your finger, even a small movement to the left or right will make the app switch to the next tab, which is usually the earthquake or tsunami news tab. It can be really annoying to use the app because of this.

    They know how to use camera angles well and direct their videos effectively. The pacing of each scene is just right, which makes it easy on the eyes. Their English is clear and spoken at a regular speed, making it easy to understand. Keeping the content ad-free would be appreciated. Thank you!

    The App has a problem where the News screen is slow and jerky. It doesn't move smoothly when you swipe up or down. This makes it hard and irritating to scroll. Other than that, the App looks fine.

    I watched NHK World on my TV all day. The shows were really interesting and I learned a lot. I don't plan to stay in LA forever, so I'm glad I found the app on Android. It's important to me to have access to this station even if I move. I've always wanted to visit Japan since I was a kid, and I hope I can go there one day.

    You know that app I like to use? I could put it on my TV before, but then they changed something in the last update and I couldn't do that anymore. It was frustrating. But now it's fixed!

    On-demand programs can't be cast with Chromecast anymore, only live ones. The new UI is worse, puts everything behind a big ugly menu. Streaming quality doesn't seem as good now. Not a good upgrade.

    Previous review would be 5 stars for NHK's awesome programs and amazing news coverage, but I deducted one star because on-demand videos can only be accessed on my Chrome tablet in portrait mode. In landscape mode, the bottom of the app is not visible, which is where the controls for playing on-demand content are located.

    An update on May 13, 2020 fixed the Chromecast issue for on-demand videos. Version 8.1.0 resolved the problem and now we can enjoy Japanfest with the family. Thank you NHK for the fix. 5 stars! The previous update didn't support Chromecast for on-demand programs, only live feed would cast, limiting our enjoyment to just the phone screen.
