Makaala and Lisa share how Nixplay has kept them close as a military family

"My name is Makaala. I'm a Navy submarine officer. I've been in the Navy for about 24 and a half years." So starts the story of this military family, who due to Makaala's long service to his country, have relied upon their Nixplay frames to keep their family close and updated when far apart.

Makaala: My name is Makaala. I'm a Navy submarine officer. I've been in the Navy for about 24 and a half years.

Lisa (Makaala’s wife): We are a military family. I have four daughters. And actually, it's the first time in two years that my husband's been able to be back with us.

Makaala: My previous duty station was in Bahrain.

Lisa: The role of the military family is to support the military guy that's away. We previously never had a Nixplay frame before. We got them right when my daughter was born.

Sydney(Makkala’s daughter): When I was a kid, like six or seven-ish, I would just have one picture of dad that I would look at like every night before I went to bed. But now Kate can have so many.

Lisa: I will say though, because of the Nixplay, my two-year-old never skipped a beat when her daddy came home. Oh, it's daddy! Because she was constantly seeing those pictures.

Makaala: Every time I visited home and when I came home for good, she's known exactly who I was every time, which has been a really great feeling.

Lisa: It's right there on my phone. I just open the app, transmit it. We share it that way. When a new picture pops up, and especially if it's one that you haven't seen in your cycle before, it always kind of captures our attention. And they say a picture's worth a thousand words.

Oldest one's going to be going off to college. We could be sending the small Nixplay to her so we can communicate together and see what she's been up to. And she can send us pictures to what she's been up to. So this little cutie face, she gets to see it every day.

Makaala: Having the Nixplay frame to see my family on a regular basis definitely helped make it easier.

Setting up a gift album for a gift frame

You can set up a gift album before or after purchasing the gift frame. Setting up gift albums can only be done through our mobile app.


NOTE: When setting up a gift album, our system will automatically generate a Nixplay account linked to the email address provided for the gift recipient.

How it works


Log in to the mobile app and select ‘Frames’ in the bottom menu


Tap on the + button and choose 'A frame as a gift'

Step 1. Add the Recipient's Details


Enter the recipient's name or how they should be addressed (e.g., Grandma). 

Note: The recipient's name can only contain letters, numbers, and the characters '-' and '_'. Other special characters are not allowed.


Enter the recipient's email address, which will be used for them to redeem the gift contents you've prepared. Rest assured, no emails will be sent to the recipient to avoid spoiling the surprise! 

Note: You can change the email as long as the recipient hasn’t redeemed the gift content. Once redeemed, you won't be able to change the email.


Set the recipient frame’s timezone. You can modify this later on the frame or the app.


Select who you're setting the gift up for, or specify 'Other' if needed


Choose the occasion for the gift, or specify 'Other' if necessary


Step 2. Add a Greeting Message (optional)

In the greeting message, include a special message for the recipient and attach a photo or video

NOTE: For first-time users, tapping the “Add a photo or video” button will prompt a permission popup. Select the “Allow all access” option to grant permission to view and upload photos and videos to Nixplay.


After selecting a photo or video, tap “Save and preview,” then tap “Next” on the preview screen to proceed

Step 3. Add Photos and Videos
(optional)

Next, add a set of photos or videos to be displayed on the frame for the recipient.
After selecting your media, tap the “Add” button


Optionally caption or edit your media or proceed to upload by tapping the arrow



Step 4. Invite Others to Contribute
(optional)

Invite family and friends to add additional greeting messages, photos, and videos. Use the “Skip” button if not interested.


Invite others by entering their email addresses and tapping “Invite.” They'll receive an email invitation to join the gift setup (up to 10 people).


Note: Contributors without a Nixplay account must set up an account to accept the invite and share photos.


Once invitations are completed, tap “Next” at the bottom of the screen to proceed.


Tap “Finish” to complete the setup process.

Congratulations!

You've completed setting up the gift album for your gift frame.

You will automatically receive an email with the gift code / email combination that the recipient will need when setting up their gift frame. They will be prompted to enter it on their frame's screen once it has been turned on and connected to their wifi signal. 

You can set up a reminder for yourself in the app, to forward this combination to the recipient on a specific date in the future or, if you wish you can share it with them immediately by tapping “Share Now.” Of course doing this may spoil the surprise element!
