One of the apps that allows you to check daily news on your smartphone is called "News Pass."
News Pass is a convenient app that lets you quickly find out what's happening in the world!
This time, we will explain how to use this News Pass.
Let's master everything, including the overview, operation instructions, available coupons, notification settings, tabs, follow function, and more!
[News Pass] Basic usage of the app
From here, we will explain how to use News Pass.
Let's go through all the basic things you can do with the app, from searching for news to viewing your browsing history and even checking the weather forecast.
- Search and read news
First, let's look at how to search for and read news.
When you launch News Pass, the first screen you see is the "Home" screen, where you can see all sorts of information, including topics.
This displays the events of the day in one place, making it useful for getting an overview of what's happening today.
It's not just articles that are displayed, but also things that have been reported on TV news programs.
Tapping on the title of an article will take you to a screen where you can check out the full article and video.
- Looking for a specific article?
There are times when you want to see only the news that interests you. In such cases, you can use the search function to find what you are looking for efficiently.
To search for a specific article among the many news articles, tap "Search."
Enter any keyword in the field marked "Search."
Once you finish entering your keywords, a list of news information related to your keywords will be displayed.
You can also search by media type.
[News Pass] About app coupons
From here on, we will explain the functions in more detail.
Once you have become somewhat familiar with using the app, try checking out the "coupons" section!
We will show you how to check and use coupons, as well as things to be aware of before using them.
- Check the coupons on the home screen
To check coupons, tap "Coupons" from the category list on the "Home" screen. A list of available coupons will then be displayed.
There is a wide range of coupons available, including from major fast food restaurants, convenience stores, and drugstores.
- How to use coupons
Tap the coupon you want to use.
For example, if you are looking for a discount on an item sold at a convenience store, a barcode will be displayed on the next screen. You can use the barcode by showing it to the cashier at the register and having them scan it.
The usage varies depending on the store, so be sure to check before using it!
- Things to note before using coupons
Here are some things to keep in mind before using a coupon.
Coupons available through News Pass have expiration dates and will no longer be usable after the stated deadline.
In addition, there may be some products or stores that are not eligible.
Therefore, please check the details on each coupon carefully before using it.
[News Pass] Notifications from the app
From here, we will explain the News Pass "Notification" function.
It notifies you of what's happening at any given time, so it's especially recommended for people who want to know the information without having to look it up themselves.
- What types of notifications?
News Pass has four types of notifications: morning, afternoon, evening, and night.
News will be distributed at each timing.
You can choose the notifications for each one, so you can divide them into times when you want them only in the mornings and evenings, or only in the mornings, etc.
- How to set up notifications
Launch the app and tap "Menu." Select "Notification Settings" from the settings.
The next screen will show four options: "Morning," "Afternoon," "Evening," and "Night." Tap the timing you like and select the time.
If there is a time period you don't want to select, you can disable it by tapping on it and then tapping "None."
Once you have completed all the settings, be sure to tap "Save changes" to return.
- About the Breaking News
Next, we will introduce the "Breaking News" notification function.
News Pass also has a feature that notifies you of breaking news.
It's very convenient because if something important happens you can find out right away even if you're not watching TV.
To set up, first open the "Notification Settings" screen. There is an item called "Breaking News" at the bottom, and if you want to turn on notifications, check "Allow."
If you don't need it, just uncheck this box. The initial setting for breaking news notifications is on after installation, so try changing the setting if necessary.
[News Pass] About the app tabs
From here, we will explain the "tab" function of News Pass.
- What is a tab?
"Tab" is a feature that displays content by genre.
You can easily check the tabs from the app home page.
At the top of the home page, you will see options such as "Topics," "Videos," "Coupons," and "Entertainment."
These are all "tabs." You can add other tabs by clicking the "+" mark in the upper right.
To use the tabs, for example, if you want to check information in the form of a video, such as a TV news program, tap the "Video" tab, and the next screen will display only videos.
You can freely add any tabs you like, so try customizing it to make it easier for you to use.
- Adding, moving, and deleting tabs
Now let's take a look at the basic operations of tabs.
The process will be divided into three steps: adding, moving, and deleting.
Add
When you tap the "+" displayed in the tab area, a list of available tab categories will be displayed, so scroll down to the bottom.
At this time, there are two types of icons: a green check mark and an orange "+". A green check indicates a category that has already been added to the tab, while an orange "+" indicates a category that can be added.
To "Add," tap the orange "+." When it turns green, it's complete.
Now go back to the home screen and check that the category you selected has been added to the tab section.
You can select multiple categories on this screen, so find the ones you like and add them.
Move
As the number of tabs increases, you may find it a bit tedious to have to scroll horizontally to view the tabs on your home screen.
In that case, move the things you look at most often to the top.
Go to the Add Tab screen and tap the "≡" next to the tab. While holding it down, try moving it up or down. The higher you move it, the closer it will appear to the top of the home screen.
delete
You will be taken to the Add Tab screen. This time, select the "X" next to the tab category name.
- Set up tabs for each region
If you want to check information mainly about the area you live in, we recommend setting the Area tab.
Tap "Region Tab Settings" from the "Menu".
On the next screen you can set the area you want news from.
There are three ways to set it: from your current location, by specifying the area yourself using keywords, or by specifying the area from a list.
However, in order to set up using your current location information, the GPS function on your smartphone must be turned on.
If a screen asking permission to provide location information appears, please press "Allow."
With keyword search, you can search not only by city, town, or village name but also by postal code!
[News Pass] About following the app
From here, we will explain the "Follow" function that is also included in News Pass.
Let's check everything from the overview to how to use it.
- What is following?
"Follow," available on News Pass, is a feature that displays news related to your favorite categories on a separate screen.
In addition to categories, you can also follow specific news outlets.
- Add, remove, and rearrange followers
Let's take a look at how it works. First, tap "Follow."
Add
If you are not following anything, the management screen will appear. If you want to display a new specific genre or media, tap a keyword from "Trending Keywords" to follow it.
Cancellation
To unfollow, tap "Follow" → "+" to go to the management screen. Tap the "X" next to the keyword in the "Followed" section to delete it!
Sort
To rearrange, press and hold "≡" on the same management screen and move up and down.
If you are following multiple accounts, follow these steps to change the display order to your preference.

Finally, here are some useful features to know about:
- Check "Notice"
In the "Notice" section you will receive information about ongoing events.
- Setting up autoplay for videos
Next is the video autoplay setting. If you enable this, videos distributed by news media will play automatically.
