Who are we?

NS is active in the public transportation sector. We encourage the use of public transportation and keep the Netherlands moving. Our travellers are our 1st, 2nd and 3rd priority in all of our activities, and we do our utmost to make their trip as pleasant and sustainable as possible from door to door.

How to activate notifications

Plan your journey in the NS app. Select your journey and click at the top of the screen on the Notifications. Enter your preferences for receiving push notifications for:

    Changes in my trip (cancellation, delay or departure from another track).

    Departure, transfer and arrival.

    Less chance of getting a seat.

Save your preferences, and we'll send you a push notification if anything changes.

No € 1 surcharge on your train ticket

No queues at the counter or ticket machine

You can travel immediately!

Purchasing an e-ticket is very simple. You fill in the journey and the name of the traveller, and pay for your order using iDEAL or your creditcard (MasterCard, Visa and American Express). You can then print out the e-ticket.

Frequently asked questions about Co-travel discount

1. How do I give Co-travel discount?

You share a co-travel code with the person you want to travel with.

This is how you give a discount:

    Log in to My NS.

    On your dashboard you will see a block 'Co-travel discount'.

    Select 'Share code'.

    You will see the code on the next screen.

    Send the code to your fellow traveller.

Your fellow traveller will receive your message and can use the code for 3 days to order a train ticket. Or to link Co-travel discount in Mijn NS to one of these season tickets: NS Flex Basis, NS Flex Weekend Voordeel or NS Flex Weekend Vrij. It is also possible to go to an NS service desk together.

When checking your ticket, the conductor will see that you are travelling together. Also, don't forget your proof of identity to show that it's really you.

2. With which season ticket can I receive Co-travel discount?

Only with NS Flex Basis, NS Flex Weekend Voordeel or NS Flex Weekend Vrij can you receive a Co-travel discount. You have an NS Flex season ticket if you pay for your travels afterwards.

3. I want to give a Co-travel discount and get the message 'You are not the card holder'. I am the card holder, what should I do?

An NS account is always linked to one customer number. You will receive a message if the NS account you are logged in to does not match your customer number. Maybe you are in our system multiple times, under different customer numbers?

4. Can I give and receive a Co-travel discount at the same time?

No, you can't. Ask another NS season ticket holder or student with Student travel product to share a co-travel code with you.

5. Is there a maximum number of codes I can give?

No, you can give away unlimited co-travel codes. Also, as a fellow traveller, you can travel with Co-travel discount as often as you want.

6. Can fellow travellers travel with different codes?

Yes. But, you can only take a maximum of 3 fellow travellers with you.

Permissions:

- Location access to display nearby train stations

- "Photo's/media/files" access to save temporary files for Google Maps. This ensures faster map loading without using or accessing user photos or media.

    Oh boy, that app looks amazing at a glance, but oh man, it's one huge mess in reality! If you tweak your account name, well, it won't update on all the pages. And if you're thinking of adjusting your birthdate, forget about it within the app. And if you reach out to customer service for help, they'll say it's done; however, when you peek back at the app, lo and behold, something completely different shows up. Hey, don't even get me started on how much battery power this app guzzles up like there's no tomorrow!

    I like this app a lot! It works well with the OV chip card and it shows all my travel history.

    Hey, I found this really useful app! The developer answered my earlier feedback on how to switch the text to English. They said, "Go to 'More', then pick 'Settings' and choose 'Language'. There you can switch the app's language from Dutch to English." I followed these steps and it worked! You just have to tap one of the options at the bottom to update the screen. I already thought it was very helpful, but now I'd give it 6 stars.

    Oh, that sounds great! It's quite big (30+ Mb) and a bit slow. Maybe you could compress it and enhance its performance? By the way, what do you guys do with the Wi-Fi device data that you ask permission for during installation?

    I missed my plane twice because the times on the official website and the app were different. The app is not only useless but also very harmful.

    The app is great for checking train times, it works really well. However, the beta version to remind you to checkout isn't as good. It has some bugs and sometimes says I didn't checkout even though my travel history shows otherwise. It's also annoying that after checking out, a notification stays on your phone with the station you checked out at. Personally, I find this unnecessary as I know where I got off the train. Despite these issues, I think the notification feature for checkout is a helpful addition to the app.

    I really enjoy using this app a lot. It's easy to navigate and contains a lot of information. I like being able to save my favorite trips and stations on it.

    So there was this app that used to run smoothly, but now when you log in, it just crashes out of the blue. I tried everything - deleting data, uninstalling the app, restarting my device, reinstalling the app, but no luck. It starts up fine and runs smoothly until I log in with my account. After that, the app just closes itself and won't work unless I repeat the whole process all over again. But then, one day, I decided to try something different. I imported a coupon ticket first and then logged in, and surprisingly, it worked! It's weird how things sometimes work in mysterious ways.

    Oh, what a hassle! A good travel app should let you book everything you need for a specific date and time, even bike tickets. Right now, you have to reserve people's tickets and also separately purchase bike tickets. It's so hard to do anything useful on the app itself; you have to go to the website. And if my OV chip cards are already linked to the app, why can't it just deduct payment from them instead of making me go through another process? Plus, I have to download or transfer tickets to the app via email, which is just inconvenient. It feels like bad design at best, or maybe a sly way to catch people out and fine them for not having their bike tickets in order. I'll keep trying for now, but it's just too complicated and not user-friendly. Please try harder to come up with a workable solution!
