The app allows users to scan the 3 million products already contained in the free and open database Open Food Facts. The app is collaborative. If a product is not available, users can add pictures and data to receive the Nutri-Score and NOVA score on food processing. In essence, it is likened to being "the Wikipedia of food", as dubbed by many. Open Food Facts has facilitated the development of over 100 apps such as Date Limite, Yuka, or FoodVisor.
