Gaming Tips
10 Run Dino Run
Picking that first dinosaur can be tough, should players pick their favorite from Jurassic World or maybe the one that looks the meanest?
Well, one thing to keep in mind is that in Path of Titans there is no fast travel. That’s right, dinosaurs needed to walk everywhere, and on a 8km by 8km map, there is plenty of walking to be done. When picking the first dinosaur make sure that the stamina stat is high, energy runs out fast, and dinosaurs don’t want to be out of breath while being chased down by a ravenous Tyrannosaurus Rex.
9 Tread careful!
Many things can damage players on the prehistoric path to adulthood, other dinosaurs, forgetting to come up for air underwater and yes, falling.
It is quite easy to be wandering along a path when suddenly a huge drop appears from nowhere. It would be ideal not to test the evolution of dinosaurs quite yet. Falling from most heights above the height of the player will result in damage or the worst case - death. Be careful of each step, as losing marks and growth progress can hinder progress and falling is very easy to do.
8 Eat In Moderation
Good health tips say to eat in moderation, this is also true here. Unlike other survival games like Dread Hunger, there are no weather elements to battle against, only food, water and other dinosaurs. Eating and drinking are truly essential to survive in Path of Titans but wait to be told to do so.
Yes, players can chow down any time they feel the need for a top-up, and can drink whenever the water meter dips. The trick to making the meters advantageous is waiting for the on-screen prompt to either eat or drink. Hold out for this to happen and then satisfy the dinosaurs needs to be rewarded with 60 marks and some growth progress. Essential in reaching adulthood quickly, eating or drinking before the prompt will lead to missing these rewards each time.
7 Don't Follow
Quests in the game are vital to successfully raising dinosaurs successfully. Finishing these will earn some marks and growth progress. Like any open-world game, taking on lots of quests is often the best way to level up quickly.
This is true in Path of Titans also, and handily quests are trackable simultaneously. Having lots of quests, however, can be confusing as to which one the player is heading towards. So the best advice is to unfollow them, yep, not following those further away quests will allow clearer focu on the task at hand making things much more manageable.
6 Solo Play
Path of Titans is first and foremost a game to be enjoyed with others. Nothing else comes close to experiencing life in prehistoric times than roaming Panjura with up to 200 other players.
Finding the right way in the huge plains and mountain regions of the map can be difficult. Luckily Path of Titans has a single-player option. This may not seem like the best choice in an MMORPG, but give it a try first, this allows better scope of the land, learn the terrain and get comfortable with the movement and actions available.
5 Do Stuff
The main objective for players in Path of Titans is to grow chosen dinos from hatchling to adult. To get to a fully grown terrible lizard it is necessary to fill the growth meter and progress through each stage.
The best way to achieve a giant dino is by doing quests and exploring the map. Quests will reward players with growth and marks, each essential in surviving the wilds of Panjura. Exploring the map, quite often tied to a timed quest, is another great option, as this allows discovery of new places, as well as gains in growth bar progress.
4 Automatic Dino-Mode
So players may have gathered that getting places across Panjura takes time. Dinosaurs will have a stamina meter that drains as they run, some will drain quicker than others and should be monitored carefully.
That said, running gets to the quest or goal quicker, and this can be made even easier. Autorun is a feature that enables the player to control turning movements of the dino, the game takes care of the rest. Players will travel a lot in Path of Titans and having autorun on makes things a lot easier.
3 Spend Wisely
Marks are the in-game currency in Path of Titans, they can be used to purchase a variety of things. Skins, abilities and even cave decorations can be purchased with marks.
It is very tempting to make those dinosaur look like the flashiest creature in the realm. Decorating the home cave to taste is another money sink, which for beginners is a waste. Instead, use marks to upgrade abilities, being able to defend and attack in a fight is essential to growing through to the adult stages and having a pretty cave won’t keep that Spinosaurus or other enemies at bay.
2 Quiet, Please
One of the fun features of the game is the ability to use vocal cues to communicate like a real dinosaur. From a threatening roar to a loving hiss, these options give a great sense of realism to Path of Titans dino fun.
Before going round the woods blasting roars like an 18-wheeler on the highway, a word of caution. Other players will actively hunt, for fun. The easiest way to locate new prey is when they run about stretching those vocal cords. So remember in the early stages to be mindful of using the vocal abilities and avoid being chomped.
1 Better Together
Now, an earlier tip says to try out single player to learn the lay of the land. This is the opposite, bring a friend.
Panjura can be a calm and serene place for like-minded dinosaur enthusiasts, but it can also be filled with angry dinos looking for a scrap.
Teaming with a friend is a great way to dissuade Mr T-Rex from making a solo wanderer their next meal. If players haven't got anyone they know to play with, try the chat feature and see if anyone is looking to group. Safety in numbers dino pals.
Path of Titans is available now on PC, Android, and iOS and releases on July 27 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Game Modes & Server Selection
Despite being an MMO, Path of Titans offers single and multiplayer options. Entering the game's main menu shows you different game mode options, particularly Single Player, Multiplayer, and Community Servers.
Single Player Mode allows you to enjoy the game without the worry of being hunted down by other hostile players, especially when you first spawn into the map. This mode allows map generation by using modded files, as well as letting players choose the game’s default maps.
On the other hand, selecting Multiplayer from the main menu lets you spawn into one of the game’s official servers. It's important to mention that growth in official Path of Titans multiplayer servers can be quite long. In particular, it takes about 8 hours of active questing per dinosaur for it to grow.
Finally, Path of Titans community servers are ideal choices for players who wish to have more flexibility in using the game’s features. Here, server administrators can select different rules, such as no revenge killing, no mix packing, no body denying, and more. Some Path of Titans servers can also have boosted growth, allowing dinosaurs to level up faster than playing in Single Player Mode.
Maps
Currently, Path of Titans has two main maps: Panjura and Gondwa. Both maps are fairly large, with about 9km x 9km in size.
Panjura has some prehistoric redwood forests with large lakes scattered throughout the map. On the other hand, Gondwa is a large island, making it a haven for dinosaurs that can submerge and hide underwater.
Additionally, Gondwa has two types of water sources: fresh and salt water. Drinking the latter can cause the “Salty” debuff, which significantly decreases a dinosaur’s thirst level while the effect is active. If left untreated, a dinosaur can die of thirst.
Players can also download and use community-modded maps. Some community servers use modded maps, which can be a good choice if you're not keen on installing these files to your PC’s storage.
Gameplay
Choosing a Dinosaur
Every Path of Titans beginner has to choose a dinosaur before spawning into their preferred server or map. Each dinosaur has unique stats and features, such as preferred diets to damage capabilities. Thankfully, the game offers a relatively broad selection of dinosaurs, letting you choose the right dino that fits your playstyle.
Additionally, choosing a dinosaur also lets you select one of its subspecies, providing additional customization options for created dinos. Also, these subspecies further grant dinosaurs distinct stats, such as additional defense at the cost of speed.
Spawning Into the Map
New dinosaurs spawn into the tutorial cave, teaching you the game's basic features. This section does a reasonably good job of educating beginners about the game's different aspects, including movement, eating, and ability acquisition.
After finishing the tutorial, you enter your chosen map as a juvenile. However, be warned, as some players can camp outside the tutorial cave since you’ll be an easy kill, and camping debuffs at times aren't enough to keep you safe.
Gaming Guide
Dinosaur Growth Basics
Unlike similar titles, like The Isle, dinosaur growth in Path of Titans is primarily done through questing. These quests have varied tasks, ranging from fetching items to defeating hostile dinosaur NPCs.
Apart from the experience points (XP) gained from completing quests, you can also earn various items as rewards. These items include decorations for your home cave and Marks, an in-game currency used to purchase skins and upgrades.
Another important note to mention is that you’ll fail any active quest if you die. Additionally, dying reduces your Marks by 33% and some progress from your growth bar. Thankfully, it’s impossible to return to a previous growth stage if you die with zero progress on your growth bar.
Players in multiplayer servers, particularly those who form groups or parties, gain additional Marks and XP upon completing quests. However, it's only possible to collect items within a specific point of interest (POI). Reward distribution also depends on your impact on achieving a specific objective. That means that the player that contributes the most gains more rewards than the other dinosaurs in the group.
Note: Only dinosaurs with the same diet can form groups. In other words, carnivores and herbivores cannot be in the same group.
Learning Abilities
Playing in the official servers (and some community servers) requires dinosaurs to learn abilities from their home caves. Note that some abilities are locked within specific growth stages. Also, unlocking abilities require you to spend Marks.
Moving forward, dinosaur abilities in Path of Titans are generally tied to a specific category. For example, abilities tied to a dinosaur’s head typically lean to combat, such as bites and headbutts.
Each dinosaur can learn different abilities per category. However, you can only equip one ability per category at a time.
Buffs and Debuffs
Any active buff or debuff in Path of Titans can be seen on the HUD. Many of these effects appear when your dinosaur is under specific scenarios. For instance, the eye icon indicates that a player is in combat, which also temporarily halts passive health regeneration. Another example is a green liquid icon, which means that you're inflicted with Venom and your dinosaur's health decreases gradually.
