Gameplay

Pokémon Sleep is based around tracking the sleep of the player, and earning rewards for sleeping longer. The game uses your phone's microphone and accelerometer to track sleep. Players can optionally use the Pokémon Go Plus+ to play sounds to remind the player of their bedtime, as well as to track sleep without needing a phone on.

Players are given a Snorlax by Professor Neroli to observe its sleeping patterns when they start playing for the first time. The player can give Snorlax berries and meals throughout the day. The more you feed Snorlax, the higher its power, and the more types of Pokémon it can attract. After reaching certain milestones with Snorlax's score, its rank will increase, allowing rarer visiting Pokémon after sleep.

After each sleep session, the player is given a report based on how they slept. In this report, sleep is categorized into three different types: Dozing, Snoozing, and Slumbering. The type of sleep that makes up most of the total sleeping time is the overall sleep type, unless an equal amount makes it a "Balanced Type". The report also states how much noise they made throughout their sleep. Based on these factors, the player is given a Sleep Score.

When the player is finished reading their report, their Sleep Score is multiplied by Snorlax's score to give a final Drowsy Power. The higher Drowsy Power received, the more Pokémon the player will be visited by.

Pokémon are classified into the same three different types as sleep, being Dozing, Snoozing, and Slumbering. Based on the type of sleep the player received, they will get that type of Pokémon visiting them. Pokémon have multiple sleep styles that are recorded in the Sleep-Style Dex. After recording the sleep styles of the visiting Pokémon, the player can feed the Pokémon PokéBiscuits to gain friendship with the Pokémon. If the player gains enough friendship with the Pokémon, it will join the player, and can be put on a team to collect berries and ingredients.

The game has too many loading screens while navigating the menus. It should utilize my phone's RAM instead. It's frustrating to have to download an update within the app right after updating it in the Play Store. It's a mess. Update: Even with the Go Plus Plus, sleep tracking is inaccurate. It halved my sleep time compared to my Pixel Watch. Dealing with these issues is keeping me up at night! Removed the app.

The new update is causing some issues. For instance, whenever I do sleep research and then attempt to feed the Pokemon, the game crashes repeatedly, making me have to reread all the sleep data. It would be nice to have a skip option for the data. I don't like how the app closes in the background if I switch to another app for more than two seconds. It's frustrating that after updating, things are not working smoothly.

The idea is good but the execution is bad. They want you to put the phone on the bed, but it might fall off, or you may get back to sleep or unplug it — not fun. If you don't do that, it just says it didn't track your sleep. There are no features to help you wake up, which I thought would be there. Everything is difficult with loading screens, not good for going to bed quickly or feeling motivated to wake up. Keep it simple. Why complicate things for sleep?

This app has a good idea, but it needs improvement. It's meant for sleeping, but there are white screens all over without a dark mode. When you use the app, the screen brightness goes to the highest level, making you too alert. If you share a bed with someone or have a pet, any noise they make messes up your data. Also, the sleep tracking is often wrong, showing only one or two hours of sleep a night.

Fantastic game! Cute illustrations, great gameplay, catchy music, and fun events. It can help regulate your sleep and eating habits. The early game might feel a bit slow, but recent updates have made it better for new players. Unlike other Pokemon games, this one is more of a leisurely journey to be savored over time.
